The Yoresmith

Legendary Creature -- Nephilim

Whenever The Yoresmith attacks, return target noncreature permanent from your graveyard to the battlefield. If it's an aura or equipment, attach it to The Yoresmith.

A riff off Yore-Tiller Nephilim. Noncreature reanimator isn't really a thing, and no-green seems like a pretty good place to do it! It's potentially busted, but the original Yoretiller Nephilim reanimated creatures with nary a care in the world, so I figure this is probably fine.

Make another Nephilim -- it can be a riff off one of the already-existing Nephilim, or a wholly new creature with a four-color identity...or even without one. Gold star if you reference actual mythology with it.

  1. Child of Alara instead of Fusion Elemental… Damn thing was a useless 8/8 even back when it could’ve been playable in Conflux Zoo decks.

  2. Supreme Verdict instead of Duneblast

  3. Medomai the Ageless instead of Primeval Spawn… Works better with the Yore-Tiller Nephilim

  4. Circuitous Route instead of Explosive Vegetation. Includes Guildgates (like Gond Gate)

  5. Drop Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse for Warped Landscape and Terminal Moraine… I can tell that you may be a fledgling EDH Player… Those lands have since been phased out due to the restriction of being Basic Fetchlands with no net Benefit… The others can act as generic mana producing lands regardless of whether they get cracked… Ash Barrens and/or Krosan Verge, your choice for replacing one of the slow Fetchlands.

Harvey_Vorthos-Allsack, awesome job and well said! And you are just scratching the surface. The rabbit hole goes deep...

Here’s a little tidbit which Balaam will probably appreciate as well - clearly someone at WotC is into the Apocrypha, especially the Books of Enoch, Jasher, and Jubilees found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and several texts found in the Nag-Hammadi Codex, because certain concepts are mentioned in MtG lore that correspond to these texts. For example, Nephilim and Archons are mentioned in cards like Might of the Nephilim, Blessing of the Nephilim, Yore-Tiller Nephilim, Ashen Rider, Archon of Coronation, Archon of Emeria, etc.

According to the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Watchers were fallen Angels who rejected God, chose to take human wives, and fathered a race of giants which were known as Nephilim. The creation of the Nephilim eventually led God to initiate the Great Flood, as these creatures sired half-giants and consumed everything from animals to humans, thus causing the breakdown of society.

The Nag-Hammadi Codex is named after Nag-Hammadi, Egypt, where it was discovered. Several texts, including the Apocryphon of John, describe a race of formless beings known as Archons who predate humans and were born of a predatory force called Ialdaboath, Samael, or the Demiurge. The Demiurge, a cosmic aberration which has become self-aware, has humans trapped in a holographic soul prison to sustain itself and attain the status of God, which it desperately seeks. It created a shadow world which is a crude copy of the real world and created legions of imposter angels and lower beings to serve its bidding.

Archons are responsible for causing error in human thought patterns, to confuse the human into thinking that it wants to do something, so the human can make the bad decision on its own. Early Gnostics believed the Demiurge’s plan was doomed from the beginning, and eventually humans will escape from their holographic prison and reunite with Jesus and God.

Isn’t it curious that WotC would pay homage to these concepts in their MtG lore? I’m sure there are more examples throughout the game. Anyway, I think all of this is fascinating. Food for thought!

RiotRunner789 on nonlegendary cards that'd be good …

There are the nephilims. They apparently were supposed to be legendary but weren't due to an oversight. (Though its been a while since I read that, if any one has a link to the designer saying that it would be great).

Dune-Brood Nephilim, Glint-Eye Nephilim, Ink-Treader Nephilim, Witch-Maw Nephilim, Yore-Tiller Nephilim

I like them since there are not many 4-color commanders (partners excluded) and they are fairly unique. I think it would be fun if WOTC reprinted similar/throwback versions that were legendary and put them in a non-standard set.

I personally think they should be legendary. In particular, Dune-Brood Nephilim, Ink-Treader Nephilim, and Yore-Tiller Nephilim offer unique abilities that the other four color commanders and partner pairs don't.

Yore-Tiller Nephilim, which is too similar to Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, and doesn't really do respect to blue.

Anti-Green land ramp:

Jikyuta, End of Nature

Legendary Creature - Eldrazi

Devoid, Flying

If an opponent had two or more lands enter the battlefield under their control this turn, Jikyuta, End of Nature gains Flash.

Whenever an opponent casts a creature spell, they pay 3 life, discard a card, and sacrifice a creature, if they don't, they sacrifice a land.

If a land card would be put into an opponent's graveyard, shuffle that card into its owner's library.
