Trying to do a Triskaidekaphobia in standard. It's for fun, and will usually focus on burning them to death, if Triskaidekaphobia doesn't kill them at 13. It's very important that the focus is getting them to 13, meaning you need to deal 7 points of damage to them. If done right, it can be done within the first 4 turns, and allow you to draw into Triskaidekaphobia, finishing them on your upkeep.

The deck focuses on dealing seven damage in 2 different ways by turn four:

1 (turn 2) + 3 (turn 2) + 3 (turn 3) = 7 damage, bringing them down to exactly 13 damage.

3 (Turn 2) + 4 (Turn 3) = 7 damage, bringing them down to exactly 13 damage.

CARDS TO HELP YOU GET A Triskaidekaphobia WIN:

Exquisite Firecraft + Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein + Exquisite Firecraft .

It's really that simple. The combination of these two immediately equal an exact 7 damage on your opponent. You can drop a Sinister Concoction or Insolent Neonate On turn one, Use their discard outlets on turn two for Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein, and then Exquisite Firecraft them on turn 3. Drop Triskaidekaphobia on turn 4.

There is also simply attacking with Insolent Neonate on turn 2, and then just activating 2 of the combination of Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein. (Sacrifice Insolent Neonate at the end of their turn and hit them with one of the mentioned above, and then pay for the next one straight up with three mana on turn three.)

Alternatively, if you have a Tormenting Voice in hand, along with one of the two mentioned above, you can play Tormenting voice on turn three and discard either Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein(paying the madness cost) to hit your opponent for three life, while at the same time, digging through your deck.

CARDS TO HELP YOU AVOID DYING TO YOUR OWN Triskaidekaphobia

Sinister Concoction is the most obvious one. As long as you an open black source of mana and one card in hand, this card will force you to lose a life, and thus, you can always miss Triskaidekaphobia killing you for game.

The second alternative, though harder to activate, is Asylum Visitor. You can imagine by now, your hand will empty pretty quickly. To refill your hand (if you've gone past the point of your opponent having exactly 13 life), Use her effect to begin to drain yourself. Since you decided the stack with Triskaidekaphobia and Asylum Visitor, Just make sure you never have 13 life, either by stacking Asylum Visitor's Effect first (if you're at 13 life) or second (If you're at 14 life). This will ensure your safety from a Triskaidekaphobia death.

The final one, which just occurred to me, is using your own pain lands. I've added Llanowar Wastes for a possible green splash (will most likely not happen, but it's possible) and just to pain yourself to prevent yourself from losing. If your opponent can use it against you, you can also use it against yourself.

Other card explanations:

Tormenting Voice When used with Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein, it allows you to draw two cards, and hit your opponent for 3, in case you didn't have Triskaidekaphobia or lands to play the next turn, on turn three. It also allows you to go through your deck faster to either get them to 0, or hit Triskaidekaphobia

Heir of Falkenrath   - because her discard outlet allows you to hit Fiery Temper or Alms of the Vein, and then she can come in for an exact three damage in the air, she is useful for hitting your opponent for effectively 6 damage. The last damage can be dealt via Insolent Neonate, or just using Triskaidekaphobia to deal damage, and then win on the following upkeep.

Asylum Visitor - She also works well on the 3 damage curve, in addition to refilling your hand.

Dark Petition - It's strange having a card over 4 CMC in the deck, but this card helps win on turn six if you can't find your win condition, or helps clear the board, by searching out for Languish. Since it's high on the curve, there is only one of it, though if it does well, there may be two of them.

Note: I know this deck will most likely lose to any deck with a pain land, or any deck that gains life. But most burn decks lose to a deck that gains life. If they use a pain land to go to 12, begin to try to get them to 0. The deck has more than enough burn to kill them the deck can itself do a good amount of damage in conjunction with Triskaidekaphobia.

It's a fun deck! Don't expect much of it, except a fun way to surprise your opponent!

Including this one, the link to Triskaidekaphobia was mentioned 13 times in the description. Hehe.

Well, it was an interesting night to say the least. The deck plays by getting your opponent to 13, and if they have no way of gaining life, using everything you have to stop them in their tracks. Once at 13, begin as fast as you can to dig through your deck. I saw someone use their own exquisite firecraft on themselves, simply to get themselves out of the range of 13. I saw people contemplate on how to sideboard against it, given that no one knows how to sideboard against such a deck. People were relieved to go down to 12, only to realized that It became even easier to then get them down to 0. It was a fun night of people panicking about this card, and I've never had so much more fun. Definitely worth a try if you want to just have fun, and possibly even do well against other decks!
