Explore is a busted mechanic. It either reads "Draw a card" or it allows you to fix your next turn. The +1/+1 counter is a nice touch, but I'd say it is icing on the cake. Letting you choose to put the card in the Graveyard allows you to filter out some bad draws and makes the deck much more consistent. In other decks, explore will be nice for digging up your core cards while also providing a body, which is very powerful. However, with this deck, besides the benefit of triggering Wildgrowth Walker or getting extra counters with Winding Constrictor , Explore allows us to continue to press the gas pedal. Since most of our creatures are explore creatures, you often end up exploring on most turns, continuously moving through your deck, but since most of your core cards are more explore creatures, you are forced to decide between keeping the Merfolk Branchwalker that you just revealed off of your explore trigger or digging for your bigger threats like The Scarab God.

This deck thrives on whittling down your opponents by consistently out-valuing them and being scary consistent. The explore mechanic allows us to run a lower land count and we only ever need a two land hand, sometimes even a risky one lander. You want to mulligan hands with high land counts and low threat counts. In the event you mulligan, follow the same general rule of thumb, two lands or a one lander that can easily pick up its feet when it hits the second land.
