Instant (7)

Planeswalker (1)

Enchantment (4)

A combo deck using Smothering Tithe and Emergency Powers to generate a massive amount of treasure tokens which can be used to cast Thousand-Year Storm and then copy all your instants and sorceries including Emergency Powers to get up to ridiculous mana.

The finishers are either:

  • Casting the single copy of Electrodominance for X = more than opponents life total
  • Casting Electrodominance with Thousand-Year Storm out after you've cast a whole load of other spells, to copy it many times
  • Playing one or more Ominous Seas, these will very quickly get dozens of counters on them, you can then remove the counters to create a load of Krakens on your opponents turn then attack on yours for a massive amount of damage.
  • You can also use your Storm progress to cast multiple copies of Rubble Reading to destroy all your opponents lands. If they don't scoop on the spot just attack with your Krakens before they get enough lands into play to stop you.

The deck has a large proportion of board wipes with four copies of Shatter the Sky and three of Deafening Clarion. You will rely on these while you are getting up to the mana you'll need to cast your big payoffs. Shatter the Sky is particularly good with Smothering Tithe against big creature decks as they have to draw a card if they control a creature with power 4 or greater, which usually means you get a treasure out of the deal.

You do have to be careful not to mill yourself out at times. You have four copies of Emergency Powers which will shuffle your graveyard back in, but these are exiled once cast so can't be used indefinitely. If you have a Thousand-Year Storm out and you have cast a load of spells this turn, be really careful about casting something like Cathartic Reunion or Winged Words as they could be copied so many times you draw your whole deck. You could potentially use this as a wincon by running a single Jace, Wielder of Mysteries.

There are a lot of instant or sorcery cards you can run as finishers once you've stormed off, so have a play and settle with whatever you like best. I have tried the following so far with good results:

  • Electrodominance (which is staying put for now, it works well)
  • Fling - copy it multiple times and throw all your Krakens at your opponent's face
  • Samut's Sprint - copy it multiple times and give your Kraken army haste
  • Rubble Reading - copy it a load of times and blow up all your opponents lands. Nine times out of ten they will scoop on the spot.
  • Mythos of Illuna - possibly the most fun finisher. If you cast it using your treasures to pay for the green mana, and copy it loads of times with your Storm effect you can make copies of every permanent your opponent controls AND have the copies of their creatures kill the originals :)

What is the deck weak against? I've done about 40 bo1 games with the deck and these are the things it struggles most with:

  • Fast aggro decks - if you can't get a Deafening Clarion by turn 3 and follow it up with a Shatter the Sky a turn or two later you will be dead before you can get your combo pieces out.
  • Hand disruption. I played one game against an opponent who played three Thought Erasures in a row. Totally crippling. There are four Leyline of Sanctitys in the side to protect against this.
  • Narset, Parter of Veils - this obviously ruins Emergency Powers for you, but not for your opponent! If you come across a Narset your options are either to bounce it with Teferi before you combo off, kill it with Electrodominance or attack it with a Kraken, although it will obviously take a lot longer to create one.
  • Recurrable enchantment hate - if your opponent is running Assassin's Trophy or Mortify these will be shuffled back in with Emergency Powers so if your combo fizzles there is a danger of them getting these back and destroying your combo pieces. There are four copies of Dovin's Veto in the sideboard to protect from these sorts of spells, and obviously you need to try your best to keep comboing and not fizzle.
