Description

Taking another look at this deck since swapping and adding a few cards, I noticed the perfect hand, I could cast my entire deck and win on Turn 2.

Here's how,

Opening hand: Forest, Arbor Elf, Utopia Sprawl, Burning-Tree Emissary, Burning-Tree Emissary, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Garruk Wildspeaker.

T1: Play Forest, play Arbor ElfT2: Draw Primal Surge. Play Utopia Sprawl for green mana, activate Arbor Elf, cast Burning-Tree Emissary, another BTE. Play Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, use the 2 mana from BTE to activate Nykthos for 6 green devotion. Play Garruk Wildspeaker, I untap both lands, tap Utopia'ed Forest for Nykthos's now 8 devotion to green +2 unused green mana, play Primal Surge, cast my deck, hit Akroma's Memorial, attack for lethal that turn.

Regardless of hitting the perfect opening hand, this deck is fast. Even when getting mana screwed, I'm usually emptying my hand every turn. And if I'm not drawing Primal Surge, I'm hard casting Eldrazi Titans.

@Spike65 How so? I usually have the mana to hard cast them by turn 3, and average CMC for the whole deck is around 3 mana.

Sweetness I like the hard cast by turn 4. Almost every time. I might even bump up the number of eldrazi a few.

+1!

Spike65...did you even look at the deck!? His Ramp is insane.

Explore is probably better than Chromatic Sphere. have you considered Craterhoof Behemoth? or maybe Karametra's Acolyte for insane ramp. I played a deck like this before, but I also used Wolfbriar Elemental as a way to dump a metric shitton of mana. Mindslaver also isn't worth it unless you can put together the combo with Academy Ruins.

Just so you know Abundant Growth doesn't produce positive mana, it just lets your land tap for any color. U probably wanna run 4 Garruk Wildspeaker instead.

KaiserChronic I use the Abundant Growths for the cheap draw card ability since I'm usually not hurting on mana. Between those and Chromatic Spheres, I'm getting a lot of extra draws to pull what I need, and they double as mana fixing for potential sideboarding.

If you want draw then run Wistful Selkie instead. Provides you with a body and 3 devotion for nykthos

For your Primal Surge I would add ONE haste enabler so your creatures can attack the same turn and you don't draw out your library and lose the next turn. Maybe add Mass Hysteria, Hammer of Purphoros, Fervor, Fires of Yavimaya, or Concordant Crossroads. The mana color doesn't matter because your already just putting it straight onto the battlefield with the Primal Surge.

Akroma's Memorial or Craterhoof Behemoth are necessary to go off once you cast Primal Surge. +1 otherwise!

BLEATH I had forgotten about Akroma's Memorial, would be a great combo with Primal Surge. Thanks

i would add fetchlands like Wooded Foothills and Windswept Heath to thin out the deck. i would probably add Genesis Wave, and Primal Command. i would honestly just turn this deck into a "genesis wave deck" like this:

bah-bammmm I do want to add fetchlands when my budget allows it, this is just the state that it's in right now. I do like the Genesis Wave decks, but I'm shying away from adding anymore nonpermanents, as it would hinder Primal Surge, and I'm going for a "Primal Surge deck".

to be fair, Genesis Wave is strictly better than Primal Surge

January 8, 2017 7:57 p.m.

I'm not trying to sound like a nitpicker here but when a card is "strictly better" it has the same effect, but with a clear upside that makes it better in (almost) every situation. Therefore, Genesis Wave isn't a strictly better Primal Surge because they have different effects (it is a good suggestion however).

I also wanted to say that this deck really surprised me with how much ramp it has, I think it's really unique and cool. I do see that the sideboard is work-in-progress, but I think if you were creative enough to make the main board, you can make a really cool sb too. Keep up the good work
