Instant (2)

Are you the kind of person who enjoys burning other people?

Well then... hopefully this deck will help you contain your urge to continue pursuing such a deranged hobby XD

The Deck:

Strengths:

The goal of this standard sorok deck is to counter your opponents spells while burning them and their creatures. While burning is a swift win con, cards like Dissolve and Boros Reckoner slow down your opponent, allowing you time to draw more effective cards.

This deck has been extremely successful for me mainly because of the fact that even when the opponent continually destroys my creatures or exiles my Purphoros, the core of this deck is still based around burning. Even if an opponent plays sorceries like Supreme Verdict and destroy almost every token and creature I have in play, there simply aren't any standard cards (that I can name off the top of my head) that can continually counter instants and sorceries that deal direct damage to an opponent.

Weaknesses (and how to overcome them):

The only thing this deck is weak against is milling (to an extent). Powerful Esper decks that constantly mill and counter your cards are simply no fun to play against with this deck as it is. But, we wouldn't want to give our opponent any false hopes, right? Cards like Syncopate and Spellheart Chimera can be switched in to provide more countering, while Spellheart Chimera can potentially become extremely powerful as your opponent mills instants and sorceries from your deck. Just to give some props, this deck is loosely inspired by the user XeroedOut who used a similar idea in a deck of his which gave me some inspirations.

The Changes:

Basically, I added in control cards like Dissolve, Detention Sphere and Chained to the Rocks. Additionally, I added 3 Goblin Electromancer, 2 Steam Augury, 2 Sphinx's Revelation, 3 Warleader's Helix, 3 Boros Reckoner, 2 Assemble the Legion and 3 Divination for burning, card advantage, land advantage and lifegain. The sideboard is somewhat unfinished, but it will remain as it is for now.

How it all works:

Your main burn sources in this deck will be Purphoros, God of the Forge, Guttersnipe, and [[Boros Reckoner]. Whether you get any of the 3 onto the field, there are different ways that each can be taken advantage of.

Purphoros, God of the Forge: Cards such as Young Pyromancer and Assemble the Legion will burn for massive damage when they activate Purphoros's ability.

Guttersnipe: As soon as Guttersnipe is out, just start playing instants and sorceries because all of them will result in burning your opponent for 2 damage.

Boros Reckoner: Boros Reckoner is a serious midrange card. For 3 mana, it will prevent your opponents from wanting to attack, probably making them waste destroy spells on them. Also, it single-handedly raises your devotion to red by 3, making Purphoros, God of the Forge that much closer to being an indestructible 6/5 creature.

Control/Advantage Spells: Countering or preventing opponent spells will not only slow your opponent down, but it will also trigger the abilities of Young Pyromaster and Guttersnipe. Detention Sphere and Chained to the Rocks can potentially remove some huge threats from the game. Also, cards like Steam Augury, Sphinx's Revelation, Warleader's Helix, and Divination are all great for card advantage and lifegain. Additional instants such as Magma Jet and Dissolve can also prove useful due to the ability of scrying as well as burning and countering. Finally, Goblin Electromancer might be one of my favorite cards in this deck. Not only does it lower the cost of 14 out of the 18 instants and sorceries being run (and is fantastic when used with Sphinx's Revelation), but it can also be used as bait for instants from your opponent without too much of a repercussion due to the fact that there are 3 in the deck

Note: Whenever directly countering or destroying your opponents creatures is unnecessary, take that time to attack with any creatures you have, as well as play instants and sorceries (... this should be self-evident). This deck can also function as a great aggro deck, especially when your opponent is having a tough time getting spells or land into play.

Final Comments:

I'd love to hear any suggestions people might have to make the deck better, so go ahead and scrutinize the deck all you want :)

Thanks!
