The main purpose of the deck is to try and quickly get out about ten worth of devotion for Gray Merchant of Asphodel A.K.A. Gary. The three main players for devotion in this build are:

• Gifted Aetherborn deathtouch lifelink? Come on.
• Ayara, First of Locthwain which doubles as a life-swing engine.
• Dread Shade can also be used to mana dump late game for damage.
• Nightveil Specter 2/3 flyer who can steal stuff, never bad. For CMC= devotion.

Otherwise Pack Rat is our next big player capable of turning lands into creatures in the late game or making a solid body early on two or three get onto the field at once. Rankle, Master of Pranks is mainly there for utility and damage which is why he is only a one of.

As far as kill spells and cruel control there is of course the playset of Thoughtseize for hand control. Our main killspell is going to be Murderous Rider followed by the happy trio of Cast Down , Doom Blade , and Ultimate Price . the Whip of Erebos is one of my favorite cards as it gives likelink to all of my creatures as well as a Gary bounce back.

For draw power there is Sign in Blood and Underworld Connections being the big players with Castle Locthwain being able to pitch in.

As the mana base is pretty straight forward, I'll jump into some of the side board others might be questioning. The Bolas's Citadel is my plan for control matches where if I can get it out I can begin casting off my deck till i hit a Gary. Plague Mare is my anti white weenies go to to clear some of their board and give an unblockable attacker. Yarok's Fenlurker is for hand hate when if my opponent plays a leyline for hexproof or similar situations where I need to reduce hand sizes and also functions as .

As a sidenote, I have the Liliana, the Last Hope as a maybe to make the deck a little more budget friendly but if you have the budget id recommend her as a 2 of.
