Draw, dredge, dig, dive, and dodge. Mill myself to make my creatures bigger. The goal is to get a creature big enough that dropping Rite of Consumption or Essence Harvest can win me the game, or at least put my opponent down enough that they can't recover. Splinterfright s and Boneyard Wurm s are usually my best bet at accomplishing this. Throw a Wreath of Geists on them to double their power.

The tricky part of playing this deck is knowing when to Dredge (because the overall goal is to dump creatures) and when I should draw in hopes of getting a Rite of Consumption and completing my combo. (This is why I'm considering a few Hag Hedge-Mage s so I can know exactly when NOT to dredge). The Grim Flayer's triggered ability works great with this build; I get to dump critters and increase my odds of finding the combo piece I need and placing it right on top. If Splinterfright is out, I just make the combo piece the third card down. Easy as that.

Sometimes, I don't want a Golgari Grave-Troll in my opening hand. That is, unless I get a Pale Rider of Trostad in that hand too. He gives me a decent sized body on the field and I can dump whatever has dredge without wasting mana on a spell that doesn't really help me at that moment. If I have a Splinterfright I want to play on turn 3, but I don't want him to enter as a 0/0, a turn 2 Pale Rider can be my best friend.

Llanowar Augur is a nice turn one guy because he block most early threats. Sac him into the aforementioned Pale Rider and that's 6 with trample on turn three. It also pairs well with the Boneyard Wurm .

Life from the Loam is the most useful when I retrieve fetch lands from the yard. This helps me thin the deck into almost nothing but creature cards so my odds of dredging creatures improves and my Boneyard Wurm s and such can grow faster as the game goes on and I get closer to my lethal combo.

I do not claim that this is a competitive Modern deck, but if you have any suggestions that could help push it in a competitive direction, please feel free to let me know.
