This is my most successful version of a deck I created called dune boardwipe burn.
So the objective of this deck is to complete either a boardwipe or set off another big damage spell on creatures that benefit from receiving damage. Our bombshells are the following, we have 13 of them in our deck:
4 Blasphemous Act, which is our biggest finisher, 4
Shivan Meteor
, which does the same damage to a target creature as a successful blas. act, and 4
Chain Reaction
which can be a critical damage dealer as well, but just isn't quite as effective as the first two at being a winning turn. Situationally, it can be better than shivan meteor, as wiping in a last minute panic can be really helpful. I also tossed in an Earthquake which is occasionally helpful, especially late game, but not useful enough to replace the majority of my other cards. I kept it in because it has been useful almost every time it's in my hand.
Now let's turn to the targets. We run 4 of each, for a total of 23, except for Soulfire Grand Master, because as nice as he is he isn't a win condition as much as he keeps you alive (albeit, very well if you crack off a big boardwipe.) We still run 3 because he's a beast. So here they are:
Damage to opponent targets:
Boros Reckoner: An effective blocker as well as big finisher.
Spitemare: Essential copy 2 of Boros Reckoner
Ragged Veins
: A reckoner that can't block... but believe me this will still often be a card that wins. Can be cast t2 which is nice
Spiteful Shadows
is a ragged veins without flash. cheap, cast it t2 or lategame the same turn as a wipe.
Soulfire Grand Master so this guy is dope because when he's on the battlefield, you either gain 13 life from meteor, 13 life for every creature on the battlefield, or with a
Chain Reaction
you gain life equal to the number of creatures on the battlefield squared.
And finally, the juiciest of all our targets: Hornet Nest. If you can get a nest to crack off with any of our wipes, even an Earthquake, it can be a royal pain in the ass for your opponent and often times single handedly is a victory. Fun thing to try: Suspend a meteor turn 3, play him turn 4, and hope to got your opponent doesn't have removal in hand. If they don't, well then you're in for a treat.
So there's one last thing to consider. We want our opponent to play as many creatures as they want at once, because of how easy it is to wipe the board and reset the field, and because it makes Blasphemous Act cheaper and
Chain Reaction
stronger. So with that strategy we do the following:
Forbidden Orchard: For you, getting creatures onto the battlefield on your opponents side is still an advantage (especially if you play the next card) and so this card is a shoe-in. it ramps to your wipes so unbelievably well, and if they only have 2 or 3 they often won't think to swing if you have a boros reckoner or nest out because they won't deem it worth it. Especially if they havent played you before and don't know there's a wipe coming. tap this all day, I usually even give free tokens out every turn even if I don't use the mana. It's worth it long term.
Ghostly Prison it is hilarious to be tapping 2 orchards and building your opponent a useless army. This card is absolutely worth it, to the point that I've considered adding a Windborn Muse but haven't because she would fall to our wipes and because creature removal is more common than enchantment removal.
So at a glance, this deck seems inconsistent. But bear in mind: Almost all of our permanents, (almost a third of our deck) slow the game down and make it hard for the opponent to swing. Over 1/3 of our deck is a valid target for our wipe and sets up our wincon, and 1/4 f our deck roughly can either wipe when things get ugly or blast the opponent all at once for a win. then a third is very carefully fixed lands, so you almost always have a very real threat in hand and everything interacts with everything else.
Side note: You might think, "Well what about blue counterspells?"Well I'll tell you something about blue counterspells:
Vexing Shusher
Guttural Response
Defense Grid
And to fight any other multicolor deck:Blood Moonwhich works amazingly well because we run quite a few basics, and because almost all of our relevant finishers are red and it screws the opponent more than it screws us. Also, tron can go F itself if you can play this baby t3.
There's so much synergy and it's so much fun to pilot, please try my deck out and give it a like if you enjoy playing with it. I would also appreciate any and all advice. Thanks!
