THE UNOFFICIAL STANDARD BUDGET GR AGGRO DECK

So with Standard being rotating sets and having to see old friends go away, I 'be decided to stick to Gruul while playing Standard, and I will do whatever it takes to create a functioning RG Aggro deck for Standard, and constantly update it as time goes.

ANYWAYS

Let's get to the accordion :D

IMPORTANT NOTE: Current "theme" is the ability Landfall

Well you've decided to make an RG deck out of boredom and came across this. Keep this in mind:
  • Budget =/= Optimal, don't bitch to me about losing an LGS, thank you very much. :) I'd be happy to suggest non-budget cards.

  • To follow up on optimizing, note it will not be good enough to compete with the current Standard meta sometimes. I'm mainly doing this to exercise my creativity. I'm fairly new to the game, so

Budget, for me is around $20 for mainboard, and usually as budget as possible for sideboard (not too big of a fan on this, coz I usually play kitchen table).

IMPORTANT NOTE: So if a card is super good in a Modern (or occasionally Commander) deck and I may be making it, I'll consider splurging for the money cards. Just be sure to suggest it, of course. ;)

If you have played Aggro, you prolly know what to suggest, so skip if you want to lol.

So if you haven't played Aggro, here's a small list of card attributes I'm looking for:

  • Low casting cost (2 CMC or less, but an exception or two will be made) cards
  • or only, because more colors means more expensive $$$-wise lands. Also this wouldn't be RG Aggro. Might consider a splash color, if budget allows.
  • So the elements I'm looking for are: pump spells, burn spells or just plain tempo spells
  • Creatures should be have abilities like the above spells; or have haste/haste-enabling, trample or the occasional first/double strike

So for all of you non-budget players, here's what I'm looking for:

  • <=$1
  • Less than $1
  • Cheap
  • Cup of Noodles Cheap
  • Just really cheap, unless of course it may see Modern play, I'll consider it :)
  • Fun
  • May actually win some FNM games
  • Easy on the wallet
  • Usually very fast

  • You don't play Aggro

  • You don't play one or both of the colors (it happens, I almost never play white, so)
  • You want to diversify your decks for Standard
  • You're reading this because it seemed interesting
  • You were bored
  • No worries, I understand if you don't want to. :D

Generally, most people expect an explanation of what the deck does, let's see what this does:

"Cast low-cost creatures to ram their puny bodies into your opponent; using burn spells to whittle away their life or remove pathetic creatures that merely are pebbles in the road of destruction and use pump spells to deal more damage. Rinse, lather and repeat until you opponent is lying on the floor motionless. Make sure they are still a little alive."

So RG Aggro is fast, allowing it to close out games easily against Ramp and Control to an extent
Has to go wide if a big creature is involved (eg. Giant Eldrazi and such). Has very little recovery, so Control makes this deck a bit iffy
This panel is dedicated to all of those cards who have been lost in set rotation, or just lost synergy/consistency in the deck. They will be added as sets go by, in order to not be forgotten:

So in conclusion, this is not necessarily a guide or a primer; but just a fun project of mine for the Standard format. I'm always open to advise for improving the deck/description.

If you feel I deserve it, +1's are always much appreciated! Thanks!

    Updates Add

So Explosive Vegetation is a very powerful pseudo-tempo card in this deck. Blighted Woodland does a similar thing, but is a land. The primary benefit is that you can consistently pop it by turn 5, while allowing you to go into your 2/3-drops with relative ease.
