Syndicate Trafficker Discussion

He_Who_Hungers on lord of the jank :)

Exactly the type of list I'd be planning to make with Mairsil... Mostly here looking for inspiration, and will probably dig into some things from this.

Here's some of my jank for you.- Helldozer because Wizards kind of directly told us they wanted us to play Non-basic land removal with Ixalan.

  • Mirage Mirror because it is always nice to turn into a Mountain when Wrath of God is raging.

  • Deadeye Tracker because Mairsil hates every graveyard that isn't your own. No, wait, even your own. We want things in cages, not in graves.

  • Dark Impostor because getting rid of things is good. Unfortunately it doesn't copy its static ability, which would've been even better.

  • Syndicate Trafficker because, well, you're going to have that artifact in your graveyard in order to exile it with Mairsil anyway. Hey look there's Wrath of God again. Hi, Wrath of God!

  • Captivating Crew because it's always nice to look for some mates.

  • Soul Conduit because we take what we want. Sometimes, what we want is peoples' lives.

  • Grimoire of the Dead because Wizards like to read. Then kill themselves and come back with some friends.

  • Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang because becoming a dragon seems like a thing a wizard would do. Also if you don't want to become a dragon, you can stab people with it.

  • Hisoka, Minamo Sensei because you might as well throw those expensive card into your 'yard before you put them in a cage. And if you get to counter something with it, so much the better.

  • Xathrid Slyblade because we are fine with losing hexproof if we don't have hexproof. Be careful when using it with Swiftfoot Boots though.

  • Honor-Worn Shaku I have not quite found a use for yet. But if you find something which gets a kick out of Mairsil tapping or untapping, this will be your combopiece. Thought I'd throw it in.

You can hopefully tell Mairsil makes me very happy.

Cool list. Looking to make my own Mairsil list and will probably take some inspiration from this one. Here's some of my own ideas:

  • Helldozer because Wizards kind of directly told us they wanted us to play Non-basic land removal with Ixalan.

Might as well make him a tough boy for a turn.

  • Captivating Crew because it's always nice to look for some mates.

  • Soul Conduit because we take what we want. Sometimes, what we want is peoples' lives.

  • Grimoire of the Dead because Wizards like to read. Then kill themselves and come back with some friends.

  • Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang ticks the same box as some of the cards you already have included. But becoming a dragon seems like a thing a wizard would do. Also if you don't want to become a dragon, you can stab people with it. You can't stab people with an Argent Sphinx.

  • Hisoka, Minamo Sensei or Kozilek, the Great Distortion because you might as well throw those expensive card into your 'yard before you put them in a cage. And if you get to counter something with it, so much the better.

  • Xathrid Slyblade, because we can suffer losing hexproof if we don't have hexproof anyway.

Awesome list! Just starting out on my own Mairsil list, if you want I can drop you a link to it when I have a list up (haven't created the deck yet at the moment of writing). Mostly here looking for inspiration. There's some great ideas in yours!I'll leave you with some of my own ideas:

  • Helldozer because Wizards kind of directly told us they wanted us to play Non-basic land removal with Ixalan.

  • Sakashima the Impostor because Mairsil doesn't have any friends, so we need another one so he can be his own friend.

I like the look of the Syndicate Trafficker and Defiant Salvager however I do think Release the Gremlins isnt out of place in the deck.

Fatal Push can kill Gleaming Barrier but also does a lot more. But if it's just about killing your own artifacts, these are some other options:
-Costly Plunder
- Makeshift Munitions
-Ravenous Intruder
-Syndicate Trafficker
-Defiant Salvager

Also a side note: Inspiring Statuary would effectively let you use treasures for mana without sacrificing them (so you can save them until Marionette Master comes out).

Playtesting this I have some suggestions for it if interested. Your wincon is a 6 drop-Which means you either need to stall out your opponents plans through the late game, or get there faster than your opponent.

Your land pool has 7 tapped lands and 2 tapped artifacts. Playing 2 colors, fetid pools is ideal for cycling. Which is best in a more controlling deck. Go to 4 Drowned Catacomb here and add a Swamp. Evolving wilds are also a tapped land good for mana fixing and triggering revolt in the late game for a key fatal push. With treasures and only 2 colors, you dont need them and they slow down your plays. I am not sold on Renegade Map and Traveler's Amulet here either, but with all the other tap lands slowing things down I cant get a good enough read to make suggestions one way or another. I would mai lay suggest going to 23-24 lands and using those spaces for better board presence.

4 tTezzeret the Schemer is 1 to many. You dont want a 4 drop on your opening hand unless it is a perfect draw. This is a mid game play and the space again can be used by something to effect board pressence.

Through my own testing, Hornswoggle was to expensive and caused a lot of problems. The treasure is nice but having Essence Scatter in hand means turn 2 disruption on faster decks. Also, provided your sanctuaries dont stay on the field, you can use more mana on turn for your spells.

Inspiring Statuary has to pull a lot of weight in this deck as it sits. You have a lot of cards that arent ideal for competitive play that if you have improvise, are doable. Pirate's Prize is one of these, 4 drop sorcery means it takes up a turn almost completely without sanctuary. Perhaps drop 2 and add in an instant speed. Hieroglyphic Illumination will provide a cycling option if you are in a game where you just cant swing its cost. Lastly, Bontu's Last Reckoning side board this card. Its great against very few decks. Decks with creatures bigger than 3 toughness, without recursion. So pretty much every top deck right now will work around it quicker than you can recover from tapping down a turn. Yahenni's Expertise is ideal for most games and is great for the main board as a 2-4 Of.Other than that, you have 4x 3-drops and 4x 6-drops for creatures.

Then you have 2x 3-drop and 1x 5 drop for counters.

You need to be one or their other until you get the deck rolling.

Aggro and midrange are all the rage right now.

Perhaps Syndicate Trafficker or Ovalchase Daredevil, or always popular Gleaming Barrier fits in here or something p

walking ballista is good with Pia's Revolution and Reckless Fireweaver in a Artifact heavy deck playing Syndicate Trafficker and Marrionette master anyway if you get them down with artifacts and Pia's triggers on things like impliments that draw you cards when sacked and deal dam + trigger fireweavers then if they dont take 3 dam you get impliment back in hand but once they are in range say you have a 4 power ballista and they are at 7 you also have a fireweaver and Pia's rev thats all you need. You sack all 4 counters from ballista now they are at 3 it dies but they have to return it to your hand or die to pia's rev then you cast it for 0 and it enters triggers fireweaver dies back 2 hand repeat, dead lock no escape.

Currently 5-0 with this deck on Untap.in against some pretty decent decks.

In those matches, here's what I've noticed.

Mainboard: So far I didn't need board wipes in any of them. I pretty convincingly generated enough creatures to take control of the board. A turn 4 Sram's Expertise in to Servo Exhibiton or Weaponcraft Enthusiast has been amazing, or turn 5 if I have Anointed Procession in hand. I think I'm going to keep board wipes in the sideboard instead of main for now.

So far I haven't needed a sac outlet to instantly kill my opponent. I either have PLENTY of treasure to sac, or they're put in a position where they can't swing at me and either have to kill Marionette Master, or lose in 1 - 2 turns anyway. Whenever I have Hidden Stockpile out, it's usually all I need to sac all of my creatures because of Pitiless Plunderer. Sac one treasure in order to sac a creature - Get a treasure! Opponent loses 8 life. Use your new treasure to sac a creature - Get a treasure! Rinse and repeat, making Hidden Stockpile an unlimited sac outlet.

My BIGGEST concern, and it's something you seem to be concerned with too, is that I seemingly only have one wincon. I'm not sure this deck will survive a Lost Legacy targeting Master Marionette. Call for Unity could be an okay secondary wincon, but with it being only a 1 off I don't think it'd save me much. This is yet another argument for adding Yahenni, Undying Partisan or Syndicate Trafficker.

Because of my mana curve especially, I could see how cutting some of my 4-drops like Anointed Procession and Sram's Expertise down to 2 or 3 offs would help smooth that out. I also see and fear the dangers of drawing too many Treasure Map  Flip but also don't want to ruin the consistency at which I see it, because it has been doing WORK in my matches so far. Dropping to a 3 off could be reasonable.

Lands: I noticed quite a few decks playing off their graveyards, such as a cycle deck I faced, so I mainboarded 2x Scavenger Grounds and it hasn't seemed to hurt me getting the colors I need any. I considered Arch of Orazca but I'm honestly finishing people off too fast for that to matter in most of these matchups, and I've got a card draw outlet through Treasure Map  Flip anyways.

Sideboard: I agree with Big, that I could use some exile effects. Will probably go Ixalan's Binding over Cast Out since it's sideboard and not mainboard. If I thought I needed it enough to sideboard it in, I think I'll need it enough not to want to Cycle it, lol.

Conclusion / TLDR: I'm going to try to smooth out my mana curve by dropping some 4 drops to 3 offs, and try to get Yahenni, Undying Partisan mainboarded. A 1 off Call for Unity could be another solid wincon in case Marionette Master doesn't work for whatever reason, so I will try to mainboard one of them. My sideboard needs Exile effects and I'm leaning toward Ixalan's Binding. I'd also like a 2nd Battle at the Bridge.
