DreadKhan on Phylactery lich: a Rule 0 …

I had a lot of fun using Phylactery Lich in my Artifacts deck, there are some pretty good black Artifact synergies like Syndicate Trafficker and Cranial Plating (especially worn by Vault Skirge or another Lifelinker) that worked fine in casual play. I also used Throne of Empires, Crown of Empires, and Scepter of Empires, which felt like a fun thing to be doing on the side that involved artifacts. They are small for a Commander effect requiring 3 cards, but you can use untap effects to an extent. You can also throw in tutors, there are even Transmute cards for those MVs in Black. I felt like the deck had a nice Vorthos thing going on, the Lich was hiring the Trafficker to find the Empires pieces so it could take over the world kinda thing. I liked to use artifact lands to make my Phylactery, but it was a huge non-bo that Darksteel Citadel didn't make Black, and in mono-Black you lose access to the Indestructible duals, a bit unfortunate your Lich isn't in Grixis or something.

Hi wallisface, thanks for your comment! Jungle Hollow it's necessary, the mana base don't work only with basic lands, but one Gingerbread Cabin you can add. i aggree the second point,Foul Play isn't really useful,it's better Shambling Ghast. i need Syndicate Trafficker in defense and for sacrifice artifact and active Disciple of the Vault. Very thanks for your ideas ^^

Nice budget build! Some thoughts:

  • I think you should endeavor to get Gingerbread Cabin added in here - i'd say you can probably replace them with the Jungle Hollow (I don't think you necessarily need 2-colour lands, your manabase looks pretty simple, so I don't see it causing too many issues).

  • The only two cards here that feel a bit dubious to me are Foul Play and Syndicate Trafficker. I don't think you want to be investing tokens in the Trafficker when you have better payoff options, and i'm worried Foul Play is super situational. A playset of the Shambling Ghast you have in your maybeboard would be a much stronger option, imo, though i'm not sure if that breaks the budget-rules of the deck. Curious Pair could be another option.

Shambling Ghast over Dire Fleet Hoarder? Cheaper to cast and can be removal in a pinch. Also maybe Call of the Death-Dweller instead of Resourceful Return? A menace counter on Syndicate Trafficker seems pretty nice.

This looks like an AWESOME deck! I've wanted to build this for a while but never really got around to it. Some suggestions might be to add Gonti, Gonti, Lord of Luxury as an overall good aetherborn. He helps with card advantage in a way and takes away from your opponent. Vengeful Rebel is another option for sorcery speed removal, as long as you've sacrificed an artifact and with Syndicate Trafficker, that shouldn't be hard. Of course, all of these are just suggestions. You have an upvote from me!

Zerpha on Frank Herbert's Dune Theme Deck

Wow, that's an exhaustive list with Dune analogies! I like how you thought of a representative card for each major character, location, and event.

(I personally somewhat associate Ascendant Evincar with Baron Harkonnen, although I guess Feyd-Rautha would be a better match for him, haha.)

I found your deck by doing a web search for Kaladesh and Frank Herbert's Dune. But to my surprise, I barely found anything on the subject.

Which is surprising to me, since this plane in particular appears to take so much inspiration from the novels:

A hot desert planet where the spice melange, err I mean aether, flows and inspires creativity. There's ornithopers and servos in between elaborate vehicles and automatons, yet no thinking machines.

And the Aetherborn seem to combine multiple concepts from the dune races. Their existence deeply linked with the aether. Keenly aware of their surroundings, living in the moment and making most out of the little amount of valuable life force they have, while looking for ways to prolong it somewhat. And just take a look at Syndicate Trafficker. Now those are some blue within blue eyes! If that doesn't sound like the description of a Fremen eager to get their melange, I don't know what is!

I'm doing a janky budget build that isn't entirely different, and I'm surprised at how well Syndicate Trafficker plays. A 3/1 will trade with a lot, 2 mana is fine for 3 power, and his ability can really screw up blockers, while he also is growing. I'm not saying he's a good enough card for your level, mostly curious if you think he's reasonable for a lower tier deck of this type.

More regarding your deck, would Baleful Strix be of interest? I was thinking it might play stronger than Thoughtcast .
