What color are you choosing for M15 pre-release?

I'm not sure what color to go with at pre-release. Convince me which color to pick and why.
White probably. 3 toughness on the black one is really disappointing. The red one doesn't do a lot although it does have nice power/toughness. Blue is disappointing. Green is slow but fun.
I'm going green though because I just like green.

White seems really strong in limited (passable removal and Triplicate Spirits) so I will be picking it because I am a try-hard. Also I am a big fan of the color white, so there's that too.

I'm really pumped about the board wipe you get essentially every turn with the red promo though. That alone is enough to make me want to play it. I'm torn between red and black bc black has lots of limited power in this set
July 8, 2014 9:44 a.m.
Yeah... I really like black for removal, but white has way better removal this set as far as limited goes. I kind of want to go with green because big dumb creatures that do fun things, but I feel like I'd just lose every game to flying creatures. Flying + removal seems to win pre-releases.
July 8, 2014 9:46 a.m.
If I get to go, I'll probably choose green. The promo looks pretty cool.
July 8, 2014 9:58 a.m.
I can't, my store gives out random packs this time.
That sucks, by the way.
July 8, 2014 10:13 a.m.
I always look at commons and uncommons when it comes to sealed. With that said, Green has the best commons and uncommons for sealed. White has some synergy with Soulmender and Ajani's Pridemate , but synergy is better in draft events than sealed events. Big bombs are better in sealed, so I chose Green.
But it still comes down to preference, go with your favorite color. I forced blue during the BNG prerelease because everyone says blue wins, but nah, man. Or maybe I'm not a blue Mage is all.

Probably white...since I've gone with white at every prerelease I've been too but one. Granted I only did well the one time I didn't go with white.
July 8, 2014 10:18 a.m.
I would go black for the promo. Sure it only has 3 toughness, but that means it dodges Pillar of Light and the ability on it is enough to win you the game if you have any playables anywhere in your deck.
July 8, 2014 10:20 a.m.
I'm playing in 3 events, I'll choose white for the early one, green for the afternoon one (Which most likely will have the most players) and blue for the last one.
I choose white and green because I think they have the best uncoommons/commons, while green has a promo that I think will be strong in this sealed. blue is because I like blue. Though I do think I should be choosing black here. If I was to pick the same color for all 3,. green because of the uncommons/commons and the promo is better than the white one.
July 8, 2014 10:22 a.m.
Blue, without a doubt. Divination is too awesome, multiple Welkin Tern are a game winners and it actually pairs well with every single color. Also, I want to play with Ensoul Artifact .

I'm leaning towards green. The promo isn't the best, but it's not bad either. Green is the color I use least (red a close second), but it has some of the most interesting cards in this set.
I might go another direction (black or white) depending on what the rest of my group chooses.

I really like the green commons/uncommons. The promo just...blah. I'll probably end up splashing green if I get any rhinos or Plummet to save myself against fliers.
July 8, 2014 10:30 a.m.
The red one doesn't do a lot.... huh???? The red promo is probably the best "bomb" of all the promo options. If your opponent has any walls on the board when he comes into play then he blows them up. If your opponent doesn't play one after he hits the board, then every time he attacks he'll deal 2 damage to each creature without flying. If they don't kill your dragon then your opponent is limited to what they can play or even how they can block. If they play a creature with power 2 or less it'll die when you attack. If they play something bigger then it'll take 2 damage when you attack making it trade down when blocking (a 5/5 wouldn't be able to block a 3/3 for instance without trading). Plus it's a 5/5 flyer which alone makes it a good beater. If there is a downside to the red promo it's the fact that it cost 7. The next best is probably the black promo. 5 power flying and card advantage is great, but that 3 toughness makes him very vulnerable. If he sticks on the board he'll do some work, the problem will be keeping him alive. The white promo is probably the 3rd best simply for the fact that it's a 4/4 flyer. As awe inspiring as it's ability may appear, it's only going to be relevant in certain situations. It's ability is practically irrelevant if your anywhere near your starting total. So your either gonna end up holding it in your hand trying to get max value from it or your gonna play it out of necessity for a flyer and get almost no value out of it's ability. Then, odds are, if your really low on life then your opponent is probably pretty far ahead of you in board state. In which case a 4/4 flyer may not even be enough to get you back into the game, even with you going back to 20 life. There will be some times where the white promo outright wins games for people but it's gonna be inconsistent and unreliable. I think the blue promo is probably the 4th best only because it's a sealed event. I actually like the card, it's a little expensive for a Clone , especially one that only copies your own creature, but it does have some built in protection. The biggest issue I have with the blue promo is that it requires the most build around, which isn't that bad in a constructed format, but in limited (especially sealed) that's a lot tougher to do. With the right card pool it'll be really good, with just a mediocre card pool or worse, it's going to be very ineffective. The green one is easily the worst. I've seen so many people get excited over this thing and I don't know why. It's a horrible attacker. It trades down with way to many creatures for it to be effective. Especially since it doesn't come back until your next upkeep and it comes back tapped. If you attack and it dies, you get it back your next turn (tapped), then the following turn after that your finally able to attack again. That means you basically have to wait 2 turns every time it dies, and with a 2 toughness it'll die a lot. It can be a solid blocker and make your opponent have to think before attacking because when it's blocking it actually trades up because of the 7 power, that is unless your opponent has flying and 3 of the other 4 promos have flying and the 4th could potentially have it. Then again your opponent can also play around that and attack with mediocre creatures forcing you to take damage or trade down with a smaller creature. Also just like before anytime you block and it dies you now have to wait 2 more turns before you can block with it again. Even a simple removal spell can set way back, especially if it's used the turn you play it. I can easily see a lot of people who choose green kicking themselves afterwards once they actually play with the promo.

I've stopped caring what color I roll with. I usually go red one of the 2 pre-releases I go to just to get a foil dragon promo. It's all about what archetype you build.
Looking at the card pool R/B Aggro/Midrange and R/W Aggro look like the best archetypes for me to play. I have a lot success in limited playing aggressive archetypes and not so much with midrange ones.
G/W Convoke, G/B Midrange, G/R Midrange, and B/W grindy Aggro are all secondary options.
Only if I get a nut pool will I try G/U Combo or R/U Tempo.

I'm going red this time. I chose red for every prerelease in the Theros block and wish I hadn't, but red is looking strong this time around.
July 8, 2014 12:30 p.m.
Red, that Siege Dragon and those Generator Servant s, I get jitters thinking of how well that could turn out.
July 8, 2014 1:17 p.m.
Phytotian 7/2 with the ability to come back from the grave (not regenerate) so even if they block or kill it it comes right back should win some games. Might splash in white or black for support. The best promo in my eyes is green and black if your trying to place. Black cause it is the cheapest to cast at 5 mana and is a 5 atk with flying and can draw a card maybe LOL and green because he is huge and as to be exiled to be removed.
July 8, 2014 3:42 p.m.
@derKochXXL yeah I realize it got lengthy. I just started typing and didn't realize how much I had actually typed until I clicked preview and by that time I didn't feel like going back and trying to break it apart

Either blue, black, or white is what I'm going with. I love the black and white promos. Besides that, I really am digging Ob Nixilis, Unshackled . Not to mention there is some decent commons/uncommons in the set. Blue just because I want to try and pull Cheif Engineer and Ensoul Artifact . If I can get those two, I might try and go R/U artifacts. Depends what else I pull that can support that also.
July 8, 2014 4:12 p.m.
The red one is seriously over estimated. 2 damage (yawn) each time you attack (yawn) on a 7-drop (yawn) is seriously meh. I mean if the opponent hasn't got creatures that can deal with a 5/5 by turn 7 then I have no idea what's going on. The ability to destroy walls is really, really lame, and will be useless in about 90% of games. I would always go for somethign that either does somethign when it ETBs or something that dodges removal. I wouldn't go for a late game play that did neither of these. It's a good card - but it's not amazing.
Ironically it does counter phytotitan pretty hard though!
July 8, 2014 4:15 p.m.
Yet you claimed the white one is probably the best when it's a 4/4 flyer for 7 mana... hmmm that seems contradictory. Don't tell me it's because of the white promos ability either, because it's usefulness is highly debatable. Any time you get any actual value from it's ability your most likely too far behind even with the life reset, because , according to you, your opponent should be able to deal with a 5/5 flyer by turn 7 so a 4/4 flyer should be just as easy to deal with. Don't get me wrong I'm sure there will be stories from people about how they dropped it down and going back up to 20 saved them. It's just not gonna be reliable from game to game (unless your plan is to get your life total down really low every game) and is extremely unimpressive if your anywhere near your starting life total and you have to play it as a 4/4 flyer for 7 mana that did practically nothing when it entered. It's going to either be a really expensive creature with a big effect that hits the board too late or it's going to be a really expensive creature with little to no effect.
Also the fact that you point out blowing up walls will be irrelevant in 90% of games only supports what I was saying before. If in 90% of games your opponent isn't even going to have a wall in their deck then that means it's triggered ability that does damage will go off every time your attack. Like I pointed out before, that limits what your opponent can play because now all of their bombs trade off with smaller creatures when blocking and any smaller creatures die before blockers are declared. Now I'm not making and claims toward it's standard use, but as far as limited goes that's doing a lot of work.

I could see the white promo being abused if you went w/u and used lots of tempo plays on yourself like quickling and Into the Void etc and bounce the angel to recast. It'd be expensive and probably not the best course bc as was already mentioned, if you have to use it more than once you're probably losing anyways.
July 8, 2014 6:29 p.m.
I'm going white because it's my favorite color. And in sealed, I've found being behind in life doesnt mean you're already boned- I went from 7 life vs 25 to victory in 2 turns during jou because of some late game life gain.
Besides, even just gaining 4 life and getting the flyer is worth it to me.
BTW sorry for dreadful comment, I'm on my phone.
July 8, 2014 6:49 p.m.
The more I play around with the seeded generator, the more I start to lean white. The green rares are my favorite, but white's suite isn't far behind. I've found it easier to incorporate the white commons/uncommons, so I think I'll have to go that way.

Yeah, I might pick green and try to go green/white. Green has fun creatures, white has flying stuff and removal.
Does anyone know if there's a chance of getting Planeswalkers in the seeded packs?
July 8, 2014 9:03 p.m.
Black or green.
Im going black because I personally think the promo is amazing. I feel the effect will be a huge bomb in limited, and possibly even in standard. Black also has some pretty powerful things.
Green I think has a disappointing promo imo. Buuuuuuut, green is the power color considering it has Garruk (so does black), Chord of Calling , nissa, and lots of other sweet cards..
But, just choose whatever color floats your boat and you have experience with. Im going black because I love seeing my opponent having no boardstate when I finally kill them off with my strong creature/s that come late game. Sounds like a blue game plan, but in limited, that's how black plays. I would know since I have chosen it at every prerelease ;)

I'm currently liking white a lot right now. Solid commons/uncommons, great promo rare, and fliers. FLIERS! Paired with good Auras and Heliod's Pilgrim, fliers do wonders. And yes, I read abenz419's book.
July 9, 2014 11:29 p.m.
I was on board with Black because of the Promo.... then I realized that blacks other cards just suck for sealed. It's rares are mostly "build around me' cards and it's Uncommons and Commons are not overly great. Even it's removal is lacking. It has a few okay cards, like Necrogen Scudder ... but most of black cards just aren't worth picking black for.
Green is the surprise option for me... the promo is hard to deal with and all of it's rares range from Okay to Great for Limited. - It pairs well with most other colors. - And it has one common that is going to be overlooked... White, Red, and Black all have a guarantee of a Flying Bomb. Green has a simple answer to all of them. Plummet ! Unfortunately, it only has Hunt the Weak in terms of other removal, so it needs to be paired with other good removal. (White and Red are great options)
Blue has great cards... but the worst promo. Since it has little in the way of "bomb" creatures, having a promo that can copy a creature is hit-and-miss. Will probably be a good choice for pairing with another color, but it's not guaranteed to have a bomb. I wouldn't want to be relying on something silly, like having to use Invisibility on smaller creatures.
White has a solid promo, solid removal, and some interesting card interactions/synergy. - It will usually pair well with any color (because it has good removal), and could be very strong if you can manage getting mono-white. - A lack of board wipes can make tokens viable, and only really need to worry about In Garruk's Wake and possibly Circle of Flame (though may of the tokens are flying spirits)
Red is intriguing. Probably the second best promo, if not the best, and most of it's rares are playable, with only a few "play around me" cards. It has a fair amount of removal, though some of it over-costed, and had a lot of just 'solid' creatures, and a good chance at having a good curve. - A few Generator Servant 's could make for an early, hasty, bomb giving you a board state that is just hard to come back from. (Siege Dragon on T4 would be hard to come back from)
I'm still undecided between Red, White, and Green... leaning towards Red with the hope of getting good white to pair it with. It could make for a very effective and aggressive deck. - Still may go Green... only White can efficiently deal with the promo; no other color has Exile effects, and blue has to counter as bouncing just lets it come back.

But Rayenous, reds' commons just aren't great in sealed, where it tries to be an aggro deck and gets beaten senseless by midrangey decks. I'd like to play red too, (It's my favorite color) but white is mainly better.

Crazy how different people evaluate cards.
In my eyes Black is the clear #1. I've opened around 50 sealed pools and built decks from them over the past couple days. About 40% were B/R aggro, 30% B/x aggro or midrange, 20% R/x aggro, and 10% of other. I really wanted to try a U/G or R/U deck but it was never in the cards, maybe in draft.
Accursed Spirit , Carrion Crow , Caustic Tar , Child of Night , Covenant of Blood , Cruel Sadist , Gravedigger , Indulgent Tormentor , Shadowcloak Vampire , Necrogen Scudder , Necrobite , Stab Wound , Typhoid Rats , Nightfire Giant , and Xathrid Slyblade are all great cards for limited. Combine these with some red and you have the top deck of the format.
I've found green to lack any real synergy and seems underpowered. White has a lot of good cards but also some terrible ones. After the obvious playables I find it hard to flesh out the rest of the deck. Blue is similar to white, I've had a solid base to a control deck but not the potatoes and corn to back up the meat. Not terrible for splashing into an aggressive deck with Welkin Tern and Frost Lynx though. Red has some good aggressive creatures, evasion, and plenty of burn. Almost on par with black and great as a splash.

I see your point, but a lot of the cards in black are fragile. That said, you've managed to sway my opinion. I'll be choosing black at the Prerelease.
July 10, 2014 1:18 p.m.
I think black probably has the best cards. I just like the green promo.
July 10, 2014 1:22 p.m.
Using LSV's review, I cam up with a valuation system.
Took the average value for commons, uncommons, rares, mythics...
Weighted the rarity as 3x for commons, 2x for Uncommon, 1x for non-promo rare, 1.5x for promo, and 0.5x for Mythic....
Totals so far (Green Missing):
Black: 21.815
Red: 24.313
Green: Missing
White: 21.040
Blue: 21.019
Did this for JOU pre-release, went with the highest (White), and ended up placing 4th... and 3 of the top 4 (and 5 of the top 8) ran heavy White.
Looks like I am going with Red, unless Green delivers an upset tomorrow.
July 10, 2014 3:23 p.m.
Found a small mistake... Black is supposed to be a bit higher.
Going to recheck all my math and repost, but I'm going to wait for green before posting.

I think green has a great curve. It also has the smallest number of unplayables, almost all of the playables are GOOD, and a lot of fatties. Thats a good combination for sealed. However, I'm probably going to change my mind at the last second on the day of the Prerelease. I'm trying to decide between green and black. They're both good, but I'm trying to decide between a good common and uncommon curve and fatties, or a sort of aggro deck with a weirdly large number of unplayables, and a great rare.

Black or white if you can; the promos are probably the best.
But really, it's just whatever color you're most comfortable with.
