Want to build a deck around Deathrite Shaman
Deck Help forum

I really like the idea of Deathrite Shaman and would love to build a deck focusing on him, but I'm having trouble on where to even start. Should I go Mono-Black and use cards like Desecration Demon or green, or both green and black. What cards are going to be a must that help Deathrite Shaman shine? All feedback will be greatly appreciated!!!
Golgari-ish Mono-Black discard rats would be nice and aggressive:
4x Pack Rat
3x Mind Rot
4x Thoughtseize
3x Abrupt Decay
3x Putrefy
12x Swamp
SB:
3x Duress

Deadbridge Chant is a nice card in combo with Deathrite Shaman

I would check out Dredge. It's based on Conley Woods' Dredge. I tweaked quite a bit. For one, I'm not a fan of Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord or Shadowborn Demon when you can play Reaper of the Wilds . And two, playing 19 lands in Standard outside of RDW just seems terrible.
I haven't had a chance to play this deck yet, but if I were to get back into Standard, it's what I'd use.

Grisly Salvage helps DrS a lot in standard, and cards like grisly salvage. this is for standard, correct?

@ sylvannos you clearly have not understand the deck (maybe that's because you haven't played it yet, ugh).
I can not count the times I have won due to Jarad saccing a Demon bestowed with Nighthowler . The Demon is the only way to deal with opposing threats (that are not named Desecration Demon ), also it can hit the board as soon as T3 which is pretty much amazing for a 5/6 flier. Also Jarad is a recurring threat, which is amazing against control. You can kill with the Conley Woods-version as soon as T4 (which is pretty amazing for a deck that runs multiple 5- and 6-drops). Reaper just doesn't fit the style of this deck.
Upping the land count is not necessary at all. Playing 12 Mana Dorks and 19 Lands = 31 mana sources (you can count DRS as a mana source, because you play 11-12 spells that mill yourself: 4x Grisly Salvage , 4x Commune with the Gods and 3-4x Drown in Filth ).
The deck is pure synergy and if you take out one piece to play a creature that doesn't synergize so well the whole deck loses it's purpose...

As others have said, using the self-mill suite in B/G (Grisly Salvage , Commune with the Gods , Drown in Filth ) can ensure you have resources for your Shaman. You could run Reanimator with Whip of Erebos and/or Rescue from the Underworld . You mill yourself, reanimate the good stuff, then feed the leftovers to Shamans or Scavenging Ooze s. Obzedat, Ghost Council is a prime candidate for reanimating with Whip, since he sticks around. Aetherling is good to reanimate if you have access to blue mana for the same reason. Another card I really like to whip is Giant Adephage , since he can also stick around, just in a different way. Lotleth Troll is also good in that kind of a deck since he lets you pitch cards straight from the hand. Obviously lots of removal is a no-brainer in G/B.

Deathrite Shaman isn't really a card to build around, but more of an amazing utility card. He would work best in green black, giving you access to both abilities, and you already hit on Desecration Demon which would do nicely. You'll want removal which isn't hard to come by with black, like Hero's Downfall or Putrefy . Don't forget hand disruption like Thoughtseize . Gaze of Granite would be great as a sweeper, and there are a lot of cards in green and black which are already fantastic. There is really not much to say about building a deck with him besides find some good creatures and spells, which are already pretty well known. Good luck
