The Storm archetype is a collection of decks that seek to cast a certain number of spells in one turn followed by a card with the keyword "Storm" to finish the game. These decks are considered engine combo decks in that every card in the deck is useful when combing off, unlike an A+B combo deck which seeks to find two pieces that work together.

In U/R Storm, creatures that reduce the mana cost of instants and sorceries make up the foundation of the deck, and allow the pilot to generate large amounts of mana with the cards Desperate Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, and Manamorphose. The payoffs, Gifts Ungiven and Wish, will win the game if enough mana is available to the storm pilot. Traditionally, storm decks have needed a way to reuse spells already cast to generate a large storm count which is possible with cards akin to Yawgmoth's Will. In Modern, Past in Flames is the card of choice to achieve this effect, as it allows the storm pilot to recast any instants and sorceries already present in the graveyard at the time of its resolution. Grapeshot and Empty the Warrens are the finishing storm spells in this manifestation of the deck, though cards like Tendrils of Agony see play in older eternal formats.

This deck specifically has incredibly good matchups against other linear decks like Tron, Amulet Titan, and Hammer Time, but struggles against interactive decks such as Rakdos Scam, U/R Murktide, and U/B Control.
