Considering Aegis of the Gods to make it harder to remove creatures with "target player" spells. Any thoughts?

I'm not understanding the logic with Ornithopter in this deck. You say it's great with Life's Legacy, but if you sac' a Ornithopter to Life's Legacy you draw 0 cards because it has 0 power. The last part of Life's Legacy reads "Draw cards equal to sacrificed creature's power." Not toughness...

Good point, I guess I didn't read it closely enough. Life's Legacy is one of the few cards in this deck I don't have at the moment. I got the FRF cards from a prerelease event. I'm not sure if I will remove Life's Legacy or Ornithopter yet though. I still need early flying blockers against cards like Master of the Feast and Herald of Torment. Though I could swap out Life's Legacy for Pressure Point and Ornithopter for Geist of the Moors.

Let me know how the deck does if you playtest your decks against it!

Tested it with a buddy and you need more lands if you are going to run those dragons. Also Aegis of the Gods did nothing in all games other than being a 2/1.

I might just sideboard Aegis of the Gods. Really more lands? Even though only 6 of the cards are over 3cmc?

Orron says... #7

Looking at switching Sunblade Elf with a 1cmc white creature smooth out the mana comp of the first 2 turns.

Also, any suggestions in place of Spirit Bonds and/or Geist of the Moors?

or you could just ramp into MOAR DURGANS!!!!

Lol yeah that is an option, but it only seems to be reliable if you invest a significant amount of money in cards like Courser of Kruphix and Sylvan Caryatid. Also, For G/W you can only ramp into so many dragons... could splash into black, but then I would need to add some decent lands.

tldr: This is a budget deck

January 27, 2015 2:53 a.m.

shinobigarth says... #10

yeah well Caryatid more so than Courser for ramping.

theres also Frontier Siege, Rattleclaw Mystic (if 2 colorless works), and then Whisperer of the Wilds whose ferocious could be triggered by more bolster stuff (Abzan Advantage, Cached Defenses, Map the Wastes)...

i just think W/G dragons would be lolzy and cool, but you could always add black in there.

Frontier Siege Siege is definitely an option. I feel like Rattleclaw Mystic doesn't fit, but Whisperer of the Wilds could. I guess my only real concern with going that route would be that I would go from a more offensive start to a more defensive start. Right now I can be on the offensive for most of the game which is really what I prefer.

I'm going to fiddle around with the deck a bit and see how I feel about pushing it towards ramp.

how about getting some Voyaging Satyr and Frontier Siege in there to get up to big mana for Hornet Queen and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon? Nissa, Worldwaker can help in this regard because her untap forest ability can be abused with siege.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Nissa, Worldwaker are too expensive for this build. I'd be willing to push it up o $100, but I don't want to spend more than $5-$10 on any single card. I might make a non budget version of this deck later.

Hornet Queen is a maybe, but I don't think I would switch out Warden of the First Tree for it (that's my only semi expensive card atm). Warden is relevant the entire game, but with a decent draw and ramp I'd get Hornet Queen out by turn 4-5.... plus 3 green means I'd need to swing from a primary color of white to green.

I've considered Voyaging Satyr, but it's most useful after turn 3-4 when you can start abusing it with Crucible of the Spirit Dragon. Not sure how I feel about that. Frontier Siege is solid and I may add that whether I go full ramp or not. I'm just worried about it eating into my white instants.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Why the Kill Shots when you have access to things like Reprisal and Valorous Stance?

January 27, 2015 2:38 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #15

Yeah Valorous Stance kills everything that needs killing except for Rabblemaster.

January 27, 2015 3:47 p.m.

Orron says... #16

Krakshot

Kill Shot is useful for the instances when your face is being attacked by something Valorous Stance can't target and your dragon you just had out got a bad case of the Banishing Light. I also kind of feel like Kill Shot is sort of a combination of Valorous Stance and Reprisal without the toughness/power limitation for 1 colorless. Of course it adds the attacking/blocking limitation though...Then again it is nice to have a little extra survival against things like Hero's Downfall.

It's a solid suggestion.. I think I will swap Kill Shot with Valorous Stance for now, but I don't know about Reprisal. If it had some extra utility I probably would throw it in too.

Thanks!

I swapped out Valorous Stance for Kill Shot. Why? Well Valorous Stance is useless against an aggro deck if they are keeping your side of the board clear. At least with Kill Shot you can remove something like Mardu Strike Leader before it generates too many tokens.

only relevant in the scenario where you have no guys to block him with, and if thats the case you're probably gonna lose anyway.

micah1 says... #21

SIdeboard should have Banishing Light, Ajani's Presence, Valorous Stance, and Gods Willing, if they aren't in the main. They are the best sideboard cards in G/W in standard. Windstorm and Erase can be good under specific conditions.

January 28, 2015 4:53 p.m.

Orron says... #22

shinobigarthYou have a fair point, but I think it would still be relevant when you have 1 or 2 creatures on the board and it is the same for your opponent. For example, you can continue to simply press the attack instead of holding off a creature to block.... BUT now that I've worked Spear of Heliod I am going to work Valorous Stance into the sideboard at least.

micah1 The only thing I don't like about Banishing Light is that it can fairly easily be removed if they have Erase, Abzan Advantage, etc... but is more versatile. All of your suggestions are solid, I will adjust my sideboard after taking a second look.

January 28, 2015 9:13 p.m.

micah1 says... #23

Actually, I think that Ajani's Presence should come out of the side because you already have a lot of protection cards in it and in main. Perhaps Obelisk of Urd could go in naming humans? Also, I think you should drop 1-2 Abzan Advantage for lands.

January 29, 2015 9:02 a.m.

arfio says... #24

Maybe you need a nice 1drop Hardened Scales for combo with outlast, bolster and your planswalker.

January 29, 2015 12:45 p.m.

Orron says... #25

micah1 I'm not going to drop any Abzan Advantage primarily because that is probably the primary card I will be switching out with the sideboard. I agree about having a large amount of protection, but I'm not sure how many and what exactly I will remove to even it out. I might remove 1 Ajani's Presence and 2 Gods Willing to fit in a 4x of something. As far as Obelisk of Urd goes.. I think I'm going to hold off on that. It goes well with the fact I have so many humans, but it has a couple issues that makes me reluctant to add it... It doesn't add +1/+1's, it doesn't have additional utility like Spear of Heliod, and it's a bit expensive mana wise. I'll playtest a bit with it and see how it goes.

arfio That's not a bad suggestion at all. I might try it without the artifacts or I might just -1 a couple things to work it in. We'll see if it squeezes in.
