Intro
This is a deck based around Rite of Passage and
Krark-Clan Shaman
. I built it circa Mirrodin block, when the artifact lands were legal, and now I want to update it, by replacing the banned cards.
Strategy
Basically, the strategy of this deck is to use a Pestilence type effect to clear your opponent's creatures off the board, while pumping the power of your creatures so they can do an alpha-strike.
Because the cards required have low casting cost, the combo that achieves this can occur pretty quickly. The most expensive CMC card is Rite of Passage (CMC=3).
How the Combo Works
Step 1: With Rite of Passage,
Krark-Clan Shaman
and a permanent in play to give the Shaman at least +0+1 (
Leonin Scimitar
or
Scale of Chiss-Goria
), it is possible to sacrifice all of the artifacts you have on the battlefield to deal a large amount of damage to your opponent's non-flying creatures.
Step 2: At the same time, Rite of Passage gives your creatures +1+1 tokens for each artifact sacrificed.
There is a multiplier effect at work here - with 4 non-flying creatures on your field, a (+0+1 pumped)
Krark-Clan Shaman
and Rite of Passage, you might sacrifice a ornithropter to
Krark-Clan Shaman
's effect, meaning that each of those creatures gets +1+1 due to Rite of Passage.
So, in the best case scenario, you have turned a 0 CMC artifact into a +1+1 effect for each creature you control, and a -1-1 effect for each creature you opponent has in play.
Step 3: Attack into a board (mostly) empty of defending creatures.
