Villainous wealth: I'm The Captain Now

Casual BUG (Sultai)

NecroBanker

Sideboard

Instant (2)

Enchantment (4)

This is friendly tabletop 60 card so why not play other peoples decks for them? Take the helm, become the captain piloting their decks to victory..
Update 2020: Back in 2015 this was a fun budget deck I swear. Cards spiking like Pemmin's Aura has changed things. .

Villainous Wealth is an amazing card and I knew I wanted to build around it as soon as it was spoiled. Of course its no Genesis Wave or Sphinx's Revelation. But lets be honest, if you play this card it's for the flavor. It's the very meaning of jank and every time you cast it you get something new and exciting. The gamble/RNGesus is half the fun.

Every game I sit down to I ask what others are playing. The only appropriate response I have is "cool I'm playing that too."

Edit:

After a long time play testing and tweaking I can say that this deck is not only viable but is an absolute bomb. I originally built it for group games but it goes off so reliably I can take people 1v1. I usually play in groups that frowns on combos so I board out the infinite mana combo most games, and it's still amazing.

  • Villainous Wealth by generating enough mana to routinely cast this for 10 or greater. (Become the captain, pilot other peoples decks faster then they do.)

  • Colossus of Akros for overwhelming trample damage. And he feels so good to make monstrous.

  • Assault Formation just incase we need to go creature offensive for the win

Generate insane mana from your defender army/ the Axebane Guardian + Pemmin's Aura combo. Bare minimum to combo is 1 defender, 1 Axebane Guardian, the Aura, and a win condition or Drift of Phantasms in hand.

The combo now resides in the side board, ready to shuffle in if things get serious.

The mana package

  • Axebane Guardian is the core of the mana generation, with each defender your win condition becomes that much closer.

  • Overgrown Battlement is redundant mana to supplement axebane. Four toughness also makes him less prone to burn.

  • Defenders

  • Sylvan Caryatid is optimal mana fixing while still adding to the defender count.

  • Wall of Blossoms The cantrip on a creature hype is real. You will never feel bad about drawing wall of blossoms.

  • Drift of Phantasms I would argue phantasm is the glue that holds the deck together. Transmuting him can grab any piece of your combo. (Or play him for a flying blocker and to add to your defender count mana.)

  • Kruphix and company

  • Prophet of Kruphix is obviously amazing, allowing you to flash in creatures and always have mana open to respond to threats. Untaping your mana producing creatures will allow you to rule the table with a capsize or just about anything else in hand.

  • Kruphix, God of Horizons flashing him in online is sweet. But what really matters is the mana storage for your "x" cost spells. with prophet also out you can store an insane amount of mana on everyone else's turn.

    other includes

Capsize is threat removal, and deterrent to your opponents. But can lock down the board with infinite mana. This card is abusable and will most likely be removed with more casual groups. With great mana comes great responsibility.

Golgari Charm was a questionable pick, but it has proven to be a sweet addition. Between its removal and protection of your precious mana generating defenders,it's great for sweeping away early aggro. the charm has saved my bacon more times than I can count. Serious tech

Sultai Charm removal options and cantrip in a pinch. great versatility.

Treasure Cruise I hear it's a good card and was banned in modern or whatever. . . But seriously it's really cheap gas, play it.

  • Update Jan 2016

I am currently playing a version without the infinite mana combo, as the deck has been banded by 2 casual playgroups unless powered down.

    Cards to consider/ playtest

  • Sylvan Caryatid

  • could replace Gatecreeper Vine the trade off is do I invest in a mana dork or go with a land which isn't as removal prone.

  • Assault Formation

  • Allows us to go on the offensive, or pump a creature for defense.

  • Wall of Mulch

  • 4 more wall of blossoms? Sign me up!
