FNM Results!! —May 24, 2014
I had 4 rounds of FNM tonight, and it was the first fnm with this deck. I was very happy with its performance. so here is the breakdown
Round 1: Naya Midrange--This guy was too slow and it was actually quite easy to win. Game 1 I beat him with Keranos, God of Storms, Game 2 I was stuck on 4 lands, but managed to ultimate an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver AND a Jace, Architect of Thought, which I used to get my AEtherling and his Ajani, Caller of the Pride. I won 2-0
Round 2: U/W/R control--this guy is well known at the shop (partly because he works there) and I destroyed him. Game 1, after a very long staring contest, I was able to make him tap out and I resolved an AEtherling. Game 2 I played a Stormbreath Dragon after Thoughtseizeing and Duressing him several times. I also had 2 Counterflux in hand to stop him from doing anything to turn it around. another 2-0
Round 3: Brave Naya--This was a good friend of mine. he switched from his usual selesnya agro to a Brave the Elements naya deck. Game 1, I thought seized him twice before he got anything going, then I let him fill up the board until I could play Anger of the Gods and leave up counter magic. it was great. game 2 I mulled to 6, and didn't get my second red till turn 5, when he decided to put everything on the board. the only way for me to lose a that point was for him to have a Brave the Elements, but he didn't. so I won that 2-0. we played a third game and I beat him that time, too.
Final round: Mono black agro--this is the one I lost. I beat him game 1 with a Keranos, God of Storms. game 2 he had 4 Thoughtseize, 4 Duress, and 4 Brain Maggot in his deck. the maggots took the removal that I desperately needed in the second game. I barely won the last game off the back of a Stormbreath Dragon. they were very close games.
In the end, I got first place, and I am very happy with that for my first fnm with this build

I have actually seen a lot of success with this deck. the sideboard, although still rough, is meant to help with the other control decks out there. the mainboard is better against agro decks. Ratchet Bomb is in the main because it works in every match up. it kills Detention Sphere /Banishing Light in control, while also providing a hedge against agro decks. I personally don't like Drown in Sorrow . it doesn't kill Nightveil Specter in the mono blue/mono black matchup where as anger does. it also exiles creatures for those annoying Athreos, God of Passage decks and reanimator/dredge decks. Rakdos's Return is actually an amazing card in the main. it can be sided out against hyper agro, but against everything else it is really good. Firemind's Foresight has proved to be an excellent card. it searches up 3 cards and those cards can be hand picked for the matchup. counterspells for control, removal for agro, or a mix of them for midrange. Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is really only good against control. I have playtested him heavily, and don't like him in other matchups. Mogis, God of Slaughter , doesn't quite do it for me. 2 damage a turn against a Sphinx's Revelation deck isn't very impressive. before I go any further, have you actually played this deck against some one? I have played it a lot and have been refining it for quite some time now, and I am very happy with how it has turned out. It does have a slightly rough matchup against planeswalker heavy decks, but Thoughtseize , Slaughter Games , and my pw removal pretty much cover that, not to mention that Rakdos's Return empties their hand AND can kill their walker.

I like the mainboatd and the fact Keranos, God of Storms is the creature of focus. I would definitely run this or something similar. Keranos just begs to be put into a deck. +1 to you.

some of your cards in the mainboard need to be swapped with stuff in the sideboard, and your sideboard should be more dense anyways.
Mainboard
-2 Ratchet Bomb
-1 Rakdos's Return
-2 Syncopate
-1 Essence Scatter
-1 Firemind's Foresight
+1 Thoughtseize
+2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
+1 AEtherling
+1 Counterflux
+1 Dissolve
+1 Hero's Downfall
Sideboard
Take the sideboard and scrap it to create a new one. Make it more dense, as standard only has so many options. Your sideboard should consist of hate, not random goodstuffs. I would reccomend balancing your hate between the following deck archetypes
Graveyard: Golgari Self Mill/Dredge, Junk Reanimator
Control: Mirror, U/W/X, Dimir control
Aggro: White Weenie, Selesnya Beatdown, RDW
Devotion: MUD, MBD, MRD, MGD
Find cards that share common purposes with each other. Some decks have cards that work against both of them at once, like any aggro deck and Mono Blue, you have Ratchet Bomb and Drown in Sorrow . Control, you have stuff like Rakdos's Return , Mogis, God of Slaughter , and Sire Of Insanity . For more midrangey type stuff, you have plenty of mainboard answers. The only MAJOR problem I see you having with this deck after these changes is with Blood Baron of Vizkopa , but Devour Flesh and Far / Away should do the trick.
