Playing undying creatures to be killed over and over again by -1/-1 counters so that we get creatures above the curve on the field. Getting some insect tokens for free with Nest of Scarabs.
One Drops:
Inquisition of Kozilek depending on the match up this is usually my go to in hopes of disrupting the opponents game plan. (I do have one Thoughtseize in the deck because I only have one.)
Young Wolf can kill it to Plague Belcher, Exemplar of Strength, or Crocodile of the Crossing
Blisterpod is very similar to Young Wolf but in some scenarios getting mana can be useful
Disowned Ancestor
falls into the same category as Blisterpod and Young Wolf but in slower games it can "outlast" other creatures
Fatal Push can be used to kill a lot of creatures
Rancor This card works with early drops and our late drops and if used early we can get it back from our later creatures
Two Drops:
Strangleroot Geist is great as our two drop because of haste and undying. This creature loves -1/-1 counters
Exemplar of Strength three -1/-1 gets us three insects and if we can dump them onto one of our undying creatures we get a 4/4 for 2 mana which is awesome. As a last resort we can put -1/-1 counters on him and hopefully have him grow over time
Abrupt Decay general removal
Three Drops:
Plague Belcher is hopefully a 5/4 with menace on turn 3
Rhonas the Indomitable is nice since a lot of our creatures do have over four power
Nest of Scarabs When it works it really works and helps you go wide fast.
Dismember Creature removal
Four Drop:
Crocodile of the Crossing has haste which is awesome. The single negative counter is really nice cause it might cancel a positive counter on an undying creature to allow undying to trigger again. We like to attack on turn four with a Plague Belcher as well doing some serious damage
Lands:
Since the deck is "fast" we have Blooming Marsh. We use
Llanowar Wastes
as a short term answer to a long term problem. Looking to add one or two of Hissing Quagmire or Treetop Village
Sideboard:
The sideboard will change depending on the meta I'll be playing in. However I wanted to point out Yahenni's Expertise as a wrath. Hopefully this stops any aggro deck but it will also keep our bigger creatures alive since they have four toughness.
Thoughts:
I know that I can upgrade the lands and will do over time. I do like Nest of Scarabs over some of the other -1/-1 token generators because it makes an insect per counter unlike
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
. Sometimes the deck feels a turn slow and so I've considered splashing red but that's another topic.
Please feel free to offer any advice. Thanks for viewing!
