This is so much fun... —March 17, 2016

I have barely changed this deck at all and now Shadows over Innistrad is almost here. I'm excited to see what new goodies it brings, although realistically it'll just have to be more efficient ways to make zombie tokens and/or ways to trigger Sidisi.

I wish I had a way to play this deck more often/consistently as there's another guy in my group who plays combo Sidisi and we try to not play them at the same time.

I like the deck name! Rise from the Grave seems a bit slow, you may wish to replace it with The Mimeoplasm which essentially does the same thing for the same cost, but it gets bigger, is a creature for Sidisi, and can be used to hate on your opponent's graveyard through its exile effect. Also, I'm shocked not to see Eternal Witness and Deadwood Treefolk in this list. They're quite powerful in self-mill strategies. Maybe replace Armored Skaab for Witness since you already have so many (read: better) self-mill effects. Maybe replace something like Kheru Lich Lord with the Treefolk since the Lich Lord is a random effect on an inefficient body, and randomness is rarely good.

Actually, Grixis Slavedriver is much worse than Kheru Lich Lord. I'd cut that instead.

I was going for a Zombie tribal feel, but I think I'm going to focus on tokens so the Lich lord and Rise from the Grave are expendable. Good call.

I'm thinking of using Looters with Dredge creatures to fill the graveyard and get lots of tokens from Sidisi. Thoughts?

That seems like a reasonable strategy. Stinkweed Imp could be good, and Sultai Ascendancy isn't a bad way to selectively dredge every turn. Maybe replace Unfulfilled Desires with Ascendancy since you can't get any zombie tokens from discarding and Ascendancy does just as good of a job at letting you select what cards you draw.. Also, I notice that you're running Llanowar Elves. Birds of Paradise can't attack for 1, but I don't think that's really relevant since it can make any of your 3 colors. I'd swap them.

Unfulfilled Desires let's me dredge a creature, then discard it. I don't get the zombie from the discard but hopefully from dredging a couple cards.

I had thought I'd already cut the Slavedriver. Oops.

I made a few more tweaks, cutting Jace, the Living Guildpact for Skinrender as I needed a) more creatures and b) more removal. I also added Duplicant and Shriekmaw over Kheru Lich Lord and Mirror-Mad Phantasm. The Phantasm could come back if I decide I need more Dredge engines.

I was feeling like the deck didn't have enough interaction...it may still feel that way a bit.

How do I make a list of the cards I've added and removed from a deck?

The site keeps track of your changes and displays them on the left side of the browser window. If you want to do it yourself I've seen it done a number of ways.

You could

  • create Updates and keep track of any changes you've made
  • put cards you've cut in the sideboard and cards you've added in the maybeboard,
  • track them in the body of your description.

When I want to keep track of cards I've just taken out for testing I use the side/maybeboard.

Hey man +1 for the intro alone. Let me introduce you to my build. Maybe it will give you some ideas. I have no idea why it doesn't link. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/06-12-14-the-eternal-cycle/

I'll have a look at your deck.

I think I'll add Oversold Cemetery back in, it was here for awhile but I think it fits better now.

I'm looking at a few cards and don't know what to think. What do you guys think about Noxious Ghoul and Corpse Harvester?

December 14, 2014 9:03 p.m.

BrianBeardGuy says... #16

I'd say yes to Corpse Harvester but no to Noxious Ghoul, unless you're having problems with token decks.

something like Grave Betrayal could be fun against board wipes or even just synergize with anything beefing up zombies.

December 15, 2014 10:26 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #18

@ BrianBeardGuy what would you take out for the Harvester?

@ hisoka I dont disagree that Grave Betrayal has a strong effect, especially if I have Sheoldred out. The downside is I need a 7 mana enchantment to first resolve, then stick around to make itself useful. I see lots of circumstances where it's good though. I'll think on it more.

Maybe I am missing a trick (This tends to happen a lot) but why no Doubling Season or Parallel Lives ? They seem like a shoe in for any token producing general.

No reason other than that I feel compelled to abuse a card like that when I run it, and I don't want this to turn into an infinite combo deck...

I'm a dirty combo player at heart, I'm helpless to stop it. I'd start dropping cards that fit thematically like Unbreathing Horde and Soulless One for combo pieces and tutors and then it would be out of control.

Stitcher Geralf? for both flavor and extra milling and zombies?

January 26, 2015 3:47 p.m.

MachCaliber says... #23

Undead Alchemist and Altar of the Brood would be sooooo cool in this. Could make a ton of zambies and mill quite a bit.

January 26, 2015 4:17 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #24

@ Countertop I cut Stitcher Geralf once already as I was finding the density of five drops to be a bit high, especially with an activated ability that costs three mana a turn. It could definitely fit back in if I knew what to replace! Funny combo with Undead Alchemist too.

MachCaliber Altar of the Brood is one of my new favourite cards to abuse in silly, janky ways. By definition, that kind of jank could be inconsistent, but at the same time the potential exists to slowly grind people's decks away. Something to think about...

January 26, 2015 5:52 p.m.

MachCaliber says... #25

I guess I am coming from a play group that trys to build janky decks.
