Sideboard

Maybeboard

Creature (1)

Instant (1)

Deck based around getting out Tainted Remedy, then playing cheap lifegain spells such as Heroes' Reunion, and spells like Devour Flesh targetting your opponent causing big life loss. You can also give your opponents creatures Lifelink to cause them life loss if they use them. If you cant find Tainted Remedy, even with help from Idyllic Tutor then Siege Rhino, Vampire Nighthawk and other lifelinkers like Fiendslayer Paladin can help trigger Sanguine Bond. Sideboard in Congregate if they are playing with lots of tokens or cheap stuff, or sideboard in Devour Flesh if they are playing bigger creatures. Beacon of Immortality is expensive but an instant kill if you can play it when Tainted Remedy is out. Suggestions welcome.

lagotripha thanks but those cards would cause me to gain life, whereas the point of Lifelink is to cast on opponents creatures causing my opponent to gain life (thereby losing it through Tainted Remedy)

That kinda makes sense I guess, but surely something instant speed like Cruel Feeding, Mortal's Ardor or Swift Justice would be better in those slots? It becoming a really round-about Pacifism doesn't seem super useful. Something like Oust could be in those slots.

I love the combination of Beacon of Immortality and Tainted Remedy for an instant win. I don't see that splashing green for Siege Rhino works too well in this deck and would prefer to stick to /.

+2 Alms Beast, +1 Beacon of Immortality, +1 Idyllic Tutor, -4 Siege Rhino, then simplify your land-base, with maybe just Isolated Chapel, Plains and Swamp

August 15, 2018 5:12 a.m.

Sorry - missed that Heroes' Reunion also had green. I was thinking along the lines of Cure for Lifegain

August 15, 2018 5:59 a.m.

Murphy77 yeah if Heroes Reunion wasn't so aggressively costed I would ditch green entirely

August 16, 2018 5:10 a.m.

How much is the difference between Reunion and say Rest for the Weary. Is the making a land drop that much more difficult than having a third color?

August 16, 2018 5:32 a.m.

Have you considered Wall of Shards? It's a great, cheap defender, and if they don't remove it, will literally accelerate their demise with Tainted Remedy out.

August 24, 2018 5:38 a.m.

Argh. Never mind, I see it's in your sideboard!

August 24, 2018 5:39 a.m.

I have found Kavu Predator to be a huge threat if you cant hit a Tainted Remedy.

September 25, 2018 4:31 a.m.

Maybe you could add Deadly Allure to force your opponent to block the Alms Beast so a creature is destroyed and he anyway loses a big bunch of life. Awesome Deck of yours

May 7, 2020 4:06 a.m.

nvm I just realized it's in your maybe

August 16, 2015 3:55 a.m.

Felidar Sovereign could be decent somewhere in here. If nothing else you can use board it against cards like Extirpate, but I suppose Sanguine Bond serves the same purpose.

August 17, 2015 2:28 a.m.

Absolutely fun this deck! Love it!

July 6, 2016 2:14 a.m.

Probably been said a hundred times but I absolutely love the combo of Tainted Remedy and Beacon of Immortality. I may look into building a combo control deck around that. Seems WAAAAAY sweet and hard to stop. +1

August 5, 2016 6:45 p.m.

I've been playing this on mtgo, and Blessed Alliance seems to be doing well. other than that, nice list.

November 16, 2016 3:35 a.m.

Love this deck! Going to take a turn at trying to make one similar but more control planning to win with Beacon of Immortality +1!

January 20, 2017 3:55 a.m.

Sterling Grove is definitely not modern legal.

January 21, 2017 12:32 a.m.

Biracial Forest Fire (BFF) or for a budget list Biracial Budget (BB).

It would take a long time for me to explain all the changes I'd advise, but look at these two decks. I believe the 1st is close to being optimized, and the second has a lot of good alternatives if you don't feel like blowing a ton of money on this.

Glad to see I'm not the only one playing around with this type of deck.

November 7, 2017 3:19 a.m.

Have you tested Lone Rider  Flip?

I love this card and I believe it would bring lots of value to your deck, which is awesome btw. Good work!

November 13, 2017 6:52 a.m.

I reccomend running Spirit Link or Spirit Loop over lifelink, as lifelink doesn't stack, while these do.

June 6, 2018 4:15 a.m.

Thanks godofcruelty good shout

July 3, 2015 2:16 p.m.

very fun indeed... +1

July 12, 2015 5:38 a.m.

Omg, Tainted Remedy and Beacon of Immortality is an instant win! That's cool. I would have made the deck only around these two cards.

July 12, 2015 5:43 a.m.
  • 1 i really love this deck.

Think about Wall of Shards it is less aggro, bot if you want to win by combo and control, it is great.

July 22, 2015 5:25 a.m.

Healing Hands is target player, although it's a sorcery.

July 26, 2015 4:09 a.m.

Ajani Steadfast maybe. The +1 doesn't say "creature you control", so you could give one of your opponent's creatures lifelink until the end of turn, discouraging a block lest they lose that much life to Tainted Remedy.

July 26, 2015 4:13 a.m.

I am pretty sure that Beacon of Immortality doesn't count as "gaining life"... Might need to look at some rules on that one. But still I love Tainted Remedy and have been hoping someone builds a modern deck with it. +1!

August 3, 2015 2:42 a.m.

wolfging http://community.wizards.com/content/forum-topic/3078011heres a forum discussing beacon as lifegain, seems like it should work cheers :)

August 3, 2015 4:57 a.m.

It does count as life gain. I saw a funny deck that was literally just Children of Korlis, Holy Day, Darkness, etcetera with a playset of tainted remedy and a playset of beacon of immortality lol.

August 3, 2015 1:07 p.m.

how about Nature's Claim as a sideboard card?

August 16, 2015 3:53 a.m.

AngelOfDivinity Yeah its a bit pricey that one, and cant be fetched with my Windswept Heath if I replace my forest, but thanks, good suggestion.

not4permuser It would be in the place of Condemn but its not modern legel unfortunately, thanks though

June 29, 2015 2:39 a.m.

I just re-read Rain of Gore... Take a good hard look at that one before you throw it in here. Specifically the last word on the first line and the first word on the second.

June 29, 2015 2:46 a.m.

AngelOfDivinity Yeah, with the amount of lifegain you can do yourself, that could be a bit suicidal...

June 29, 2015 6:23 a.m.

Yeah, not to mention your Heroes' Reunion and its ilk would in fact cause your opponents to gain life, not lose it.

June 29, 2015 1:52 p.m.

The green in this deck is minimal. Instead of 3 Sandsteppe Citadels, 3 Windswept Heaths for untapped land.

July 1, 2015 2:56 a.m.

I was about to say "This deck has such an Orzhov flavor It's great. Mightn't it be more effective to simply drop green & replace Heroes' Reunion with Rest for the Weary and something else?"

Then I saw Siege Rhino.

You're doing it right XD

If I haven't already +1'd this, I will do that now.

July 1, 2015 1:57 p.m.

Thanks AngelOfDivinity, it certainly does have the whole life leeching theme that orzhov is so good at, and Heroes' Reunion is easily replaceable like you say, but Siege Rhino is definitely worth the green splash

July 2, 2015 3:42 a.m.

Wall of Shards

Also, I learned about a little ruling I didn't know about yesterday: Any change in life total counts as life gain or life loss, even in the case of effects like Soul Conduit or Tree of Redemption. So let's say your opponent's at ten life & you're at five and you activate Soul Conduit, what technically happens mechanically is described as you gaining five life and your opponent losing five life.

That being said, Beacon of Immortality technically reads "target player gains an amount of life equal to his or her life total."

As an aside, since it is doubling the life total it could be written as Tx2, where T=the player's life total. If they have a negative life total it still multiplies the negative total by two. So if they are somehow at -5 life, they will hit -10 life.

July 2, 2015 5:44 p.m.

I see what youre saying AngelOfDivinity, if i have Tainted Remedy out then Beacon of Immortality would be an instant kill right? If they have 10 life and it doubles thats technically gaining 10 life so they lose 10 and go down to 0, good shout

July 3, 2015 2:37 a.m.

I like the idea. What about Nature's Claim in the sideboard?.

July 3, 2015 10:50 a.m.

You might want to splash red for Rain of Gore and Fiery Justice

June 26, 2015 9:53 a.m.

also, Alms Beast is good for the deck

June 26, 2015 9:54 a.m.

thanks Brohamen, not too sure on adding an extra colour however I do like alms beast, thanks!

June 26, 2015 10:32 a.m.
June 29, 2015 2:17 a.m.

If you were to splash red you could run Grove of the Burnwillows.

June 29, 2015 2:23 a.m.

Well. If money is no object, now that I see that is a 50 card.

But if money is no object, then you may as well replace your 1 forest with it anyway.
