Last FNM, my friend lent me his Elementals deck and I had more fun playing Modern in recent memory. I had to come home and work on a draft of a build that fits my style a bit better. I'm not sure if I'll build it, but it's worth trying out.
This deck is for players who like aggressive creature decks with a toolbox selection of abilities. The tribe is filled with specialized ETB's to answer specific situations and the ability to tutor them let's you play one of's.
Risen Reef
is one of the most powerful engines I've ever used and makes this deck viable. In combination with
Flamekin Harbinger
, you can easily assemble you answers and ramp. Untapping with a turn 2
Smokebraider
means that you can normally dump your hand.
Thunderkin Awakener
having haste is insane. Especially when
Lightning Skelemental
can destroy an opponent's momentum in the early game. The rest of the creatures are pretty self explanatory.
Risen Reef
Makes a 20 land build build work fine. The only notable inclusion is the basic Plains.
Blood Moon
cripples this deck without
Smokebraider
, so I usually blind side in Whispmare in game 2 against red decks. The Plains makes sure I can cast it.
The side deck is pretty simple. An assortment of Elementals that target card types helps to answer common decks since the manabase doesn't allow us to play cards outside of the tribe. Thus, our other side deck options are free spells to cover the gaps, particularly graveyard hate.
This is definitely a work in progress, but it's a lot of fun so far.
