Metastatic Evangel

Creature — Phyrexian Human Cleric

Whenever another nontoken creature enters the battlefield under your control, proliferate. (Choose any number of permanents and/or players, then give each another counter of each kind already there.)

kamarupa Thank you for the suggestions. I have aimed to keep the deck centred around Abiding Grace. Milling it over with Stitcher's Supplier and bringing it back with Tragic Poet is a somewhat important interaction, then being able to bring back the Poet with Grace to repeat. Hall is a very respectable upgrade, though I would keep the Poet alongside it.

2/2 creatures are actually quite easy to deal with. The deck wants Grace in play every game, so sacrificing a Fume Spitter and bringing it back to finish off the 2/2 is going to be common. Remember, most big creatures will struggle with looping Kami of False Hope.

Metastatic Evangel is something I've looked at before but this particular list is hyper-focused on 1 drops, for Grace.

Tectonic Edge is my go-to for dealing with lands that run away with the game, like Hall. It also appeals to me that decks going a bit bigger can stumble, whilst I remain mana efficient. I think of them as spells that double as lands. There's might be a good arguement for Field, I'll test it out.

Nice brew! I'm a big fan of Abiding Grace, so this deck won me over right there.

I notice your only means of removal is Fume Spitter, which is pretty limited. But I also notice you have some +1/+1 counter pump with Scorn-Blade Berserker. So I wonder if maybe trying to work in a couple proliferate cards might give the deck a little more punch. Contagion Clasp, Unbounded Potential, Metastatic Evangel, Drown in Ichor, Karn's Bastion, and Grateful Apparition all seem like decent options.

I also notice you're running 24 lands, which is what I usually try to brew with, but given how few non-one-drops you have, I think you might be able to cut 1-2 safely. You might also consider dropping the one copy of Tragic Poet for Hall of Heliod's Generosity, but I suspect that's not on the table for budget reasons. Still, just one copy isn't that expensive and Hall is repeatable, which is a pretty big upgrade from the Poet. In my experience with Hall, once it's down, opponents just give up even trying to remove my Enchantments.

Tectonic Edge also seems a little extreme for a full set - going after non-basic lands seems a little out of place for a deck that has to work hard to remove a 2/2 creature. So I'm a little curious about that choice and wonder if maybe a sideboard could address whatever concerns Edge is in for. I wonder, also, if Field of Ruin might be a better option. Even though Field has a higher activation cost, it also comes without the extra need for an opponent to have 4+ lands AND it replaces itself, which helps maintain your manabase.

Oh, and maybe 1xCastle Locthwain for a little extra draw card power?

DreadKhan, I do not have a sufficient number of non-creature spells in that deck to synergize with Flux Channeler, so I shall replace her with Lulu, and I very dearly would like to put Magistrate's Scepter into that deck, but I know that my opponents would never allow me to use it, so I would prefer to not make myself a target. Metastatic Evangel is nice, but I do not believe that this deck has a sufficient number of creatures, or ways to recast those creatures, to justify including it, either, but I certainly do appreciate your feedback.

I think Lulu might be a better card, especially if you would rather move away from dependence on non-creatures, but it might depend; if you're really good at drawing cards you have lots of non-creature spells in your deck, so it might be easy to get multiple Proliferate triggers from Flux Channeler while gaining value from casting spells. I'd say Lulu is also more of a combo piece; I'm not certain what combos would want a Proliferate source, but one that can go infinite for only 4 mana seems like it might attract some attention, depending on your bracket/meta. I guess Magistrate's Scepter could be fun with her?

BTW if you wish to lean more into creatures, there is Metastatic Evangel, it's a budget proliferate source that can be triggered many times in a turn, and can even be used as part of combos involving creature ETBs.

Venum,

Thanks for the quick reply! The downside indeed is having to deal combat damage with the equipped creature. I've been thinking on this and of the 22 Phyrexians in the deck, only 8 do not have any form of evasion. The previously mentioned 8 all typically have some form of utility function - like Phyrexian Censor or Metastatic Evangel which aren't dedicated attackers. I'm counting on that built in evasion with the majority of my creatures combined with the added p/t and protection to increase the odds of me damaging an appointment.

Brokers Ascendancy did ping across my radar. It's a good passive effect, just a shame that it only triggers during the end step. I'm not really sold on it though, given Wizards' proclivities i'm hoping they'll create another card with similar effects to Innkeeper's Talent. That card felt like a perfect inclusion. I don't want to pursue a token subtheme in the deck as it would require more changes with the deck.

enraged Unfortunately Metastatic Evangel only triggers for nontoken creatures and I've only got 5. I've had some fun times with Chandra, Acolyte of Flame on Arena. I think the first ability would be good for the deck but I don't get much out of the other two.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Cool build! Check out my Monowhite Walker's build Walkin' Planes see if it inspires you at all!

I think Metastatic Evangel could be good if youre making enough tokens with your walkers. I also like Chandra, Acolyte of Flame seems way good in a walkers build!

After taking a look, I think I've found some cards that can have issues that you might want to switch out:

Re: Lands, Ancient Den is an artifact, which means it dies to stuff like Vandalblast or Austere Command, IMHO if you want any artifact lands you should look at Indestructible ones like your Bridge. There are also 'pain' lands, such as Adarkar Wastes or Brushland, but it's a complete cycle of 10 lands. Similarly I'd cut Public Thoroughfare and Temple of the False God, I sometimes run Temple but you really want more than 31 lands for it to work. I'd personally run closer to 36 lands in here, but your land count can vary based on your deck's average MV and how much ramp you run. If you run 36 lands you could keep Temple more safely, but I feel like it won't work all the time and it will feel really bad when it doesn't.

Re: Creatures, I don't think Esper Stormblade is a good fit in Commander (you'd want something like Baleful Strix IMHO), Fortress Kin-Guard feels meh, and I'm not sure if you have enough Modular creatures for Arcbound Overseer. Metastatic Evangel can be good if you've got a lot of counter synergy, and it's weirdly cheap for a card with that high of a ceiling. Evolution Witness similarly will play well with counter sources.

Re: Instants, Assert Authority seems awful, maybe just run Dispersal Shield? Cancel/Sinister Sabotage aren't very good cards, and they are mono-colour to boot, maybe try something like Absorb, Render Silent, or another counter that is 2 or 3 colours?

Re: Sorceries, Lingering Souls/Spectral Procession aren't great in Commander. Maybe Visions of Glory (it's only 4 mana to Flashback with your Commander) or if you've got some extra money Farmer Cotton is really good when I've used him.

The rest seems more reasonable for your budget/power level. Hope this helps!
