Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief
Legendary Creature — Faerie Rogue
Flying
Whenever a player casts a spell that targets only a single creature other than Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, you may copy that spell. The copy targets Ivy. (A copy of an Aura spell becomes a token.)

wallisface you make some good points about this deck, but maybe you haven't seen Infect/Toxic shells enough to note their significant weakness; they're flimsy. In fact a lot of the community who don't play/don't like infect/Toxic decks, do actually have the commentary that the construction seems weak and unreliable. I detailed some follow up commentary to try and respond to each of your individual criticisms.
-
if we want to improve consistency in terms of "What's the back up plan" then maybe we include the well-known Glistener Elf. Or as I have detailed through other comments, Bloated Contaminator, Thrummingbird, etc.
-
this shell is a combo shell, and that being said I fully admit that yeah. The deck is kind of.. enamored by the Rotpriest. That was.. well, that was the point of the list. To have a deck that (inb4 glass cannon) focused on the Rotpriest because I really like the creature.
-
you said Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief wouldn't care about any of my spells being copied but do you know who does care when I target my own creatures? Rotpriest cares.
-
another comment was about Phantasmal Image being useless, but the utility exists in copying any of our own bodies on entry, or better yet, copying whatever big beefy dude your opponents have cast. Is it a strong choice? I mean, no? We could pick something better here but we're getting into the nuance of what/how/why to use something else, and that's more a reflection of one's own playstyle.
I'd recommend you check the commentary with BotaNickill because they were very helpful with deck construction, discussion, and direction, and we discussed how the shell could be built differently for different circumstances.
If you have any further questions about how this deck functions, please check the deck description, updates, and other comments detailed above before posting.
Tl;dr: the deck isn't meta, and honestly is not that good. If you feel it could be built better based on your own thoughts, I agree; it probably can. And would encourage you to build your own. Best of luck, wallisface.

Some thoughts:
-
the deck doesn’t look like it will function at-all without a Venerated Rotpriest, which is a problem as you have no reliable way to draw it. Added to this, if the opponent knows this piece is required for you to play the game, all their removal will be directed at it - imo your deck needs to be able to do something when this card isn’t in play.
-
Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief doesn’t appear to do anything here; i don’t see any spells here you’d particularly care about being copied onto this card.
-
Phantasmal Image does almost nothing at all for you - i’m not sure what it’s doing here??

Upvote for the Venerated Rotpriest enthusiasm! I like the interaction with Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief for sure, and I have a playset of her just in case I go back to the darkside (blue), but I am mainly a Selesnya player and my Rotpriest deck builds have been geared that way. I have mostly been playing it on Arena, first in Historic, but now mainly in Timeless. (But I do have a modern vs as well). Access to Once Upon a Time has been nice for consistency, and I've been considering adding Channel for the possibility of castion out most of my hand onm T1 But White offers some noice options for removal, like Swords to Plowshares and Annex Sentry, there's also some great white targeted spells, Defiant Strike, Ephemerate, Gird for Battle, Gods Willing etc. I usually choose to mulligan until I get a rotpriest in my opening hand and at least a land or two and a protection spell. But keeping Rotty on the board is always a challenge as he has a giant target on his back. How has this all worked out for you in Simic with being able to copy the rotpriest?

if you want to avoid Control Magic, Willbreaker is always fun with aura builds. I see you have Light-Paws, Emperor's Voice were is Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief? They always fun to have out together. Heliod's Pilgrim is always a good way to fine the aura you need. Infiltrator's Magemark just funny i love it (it's an aura with a global effect). Abundant Growth, Nylea's Presence both can trip but, don't ramp. Fertile Ground,Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth ramp.

Hello, I have a deck that uses Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief with auras and sorceries/instants, which should work with her main ability. However, cards with "mutate" are confusing. The mutate ability says when you ""cast" the mutate card, put it below/under, etc." Ivy COPIES spells that target other creatures. So does that mean the cards cast with mutate onto other creatures and COPIED by Ivy will just be creatures on the battlefield but NOT mutated with Ivy? Or will they actually mutate her? Thanks!

Grends27 This looks like a lot of fun. The only reason I never built an Otrimi deck was because I had a friend who had one (it played a little differently than this one)
I hope we get more mutate cards in the future and then you can build a full Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief deck

Grends27 I hadn't considered Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief but that would be a really great addition! Seems like a lot of fun. It would probably become difficult to keep track of though!
