Dearg-due

Dearg-due is an Irish myth about a beautiful girl who was forced into marriage, and then committed suicide, and then rose from her grave with the intent of revenge. The name Dearg-due translates to "Red blood sucker".
The first archetype I started playing with is vampires, and I have been trying my best to make it as competitive as possible. I have spent a lot of time transforming this list and upgrading it from its original casual build. I really enjoy vampires in general not just in magic, I enjoy seeing the adaptions of the mythology and am glad I get to create my own little army of them. I have taken influence from the style of play Jund has to help. You can also see my Jund deck listed on this website as well. Jund
The concept of the deck is simple. It is to play with a variety of creatures and control cards to build up to larger threats, and unleash those to win the game.
Creatures
The Two Drops
Bloodghast
is a good reoccurring creature that be discarded through
Liliana of the Veil
, and is also a good sacrificing creature for
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
.
Gatekeeper of Malakir
is a two drop that might as well be a three drop. His kicker ability is really good against creatures with hexproof or other abilities that make it harder for removal in other ways. Hard casting him without paying kicker is definitely not preferable since he is just a 2/2.
Gifted Aetherborn
A.K.A ground hawk. Is a 2/3 lifelink deathtouch creature that can do some serious work. As a blocker it makes people think because of the deathtouch and as an attacker its lifelink can get you out of some bad spots.
Dark Confidant
is the only non-vampire creature. Bob is a seriously strong card that acts as a double edge sword, but the extra draw can be really vital in certain games making him well worth the risk.
Three Drops
Vampire Nighthawk
again just like
Gifted Aetherborn
a 2/3 deathtouch lifelink creature, but nighthawk has flying. Deathtouch and lifelink provides good defense and offense, but combine that with flying and you add even more versatility to it. Being able to block other flying creatures and not having to worry about swinging over creatures without flying. This allow nighthawk to sometimes change games.
Stromkirk Captain
The lord of the deck, and definitely the best lord for vampires. He gives other vampires +1/+1 and first strike. This can be great with
Bloodghast
especially when he comes in with haste of his landfall trigger because a 3/2 haste first strike creature for free feels pretty nice. Also adding first strike to
Vampire Nighthawk
and
Gifted Aetherborn
is just great. First strike deathtouch lifelink is a great combo of abilities. It allows you to block most creatures and for either one of them to be live afterwords and you will gain life. On the attacking side it will make people not want to block even more unless they have to. Also adding first strike to the big creatures,
Olivia Voldaren
and
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
just makes them even more effective cards especially if they are able to pump themselves up.
Four Drops
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
is a in general a good card. It has good versatility and can really be a big influence on games. His ability to exile other creatures from players and then create 2/2 zombies can really come in handy. He can also buff himself up by sacrificing a zombie or a vampire. If the game lasts long enough with him on the field he can become a really powerful late game card, and on top of that he has lifelink.
Olivia Voldaren
is possibly the best late game threat I have. She can steal other creatures, possibly kill them, and buff herself up in the process. She also has flying so that creates a very good attacking threat.
Vampire Nocturnus
A very powerful lord can change games. Adding his +2/+1 and flying buff to creatures is absurd in games. Especially with cards like
Gifted Aetherborn
and
Vampire Nighthawk
(even though he already has flying) because the extra lifelink can become game changing. Also with
Stromkirk Captain
on the field along with Nocturnus all vampires will have +3/+2 flying first strike, and that is pretty strong.
Instant and Sorcery Cards
Inquisition of Kozilek
and
Thoughtseize
are turn one hand disruption, and are the best way to start the game.
Terminate
and
Fatal Push
are the main creature removal of the deck.
Terminate
is usually better late game.
Kolaghan's Command
is a combination of burn, hand disruption, and creature removal. It can also get rid of artifacts, and get a creature back from the grave.
Planeswalkers
Liliana of the Veil
is one of the best planeswalkers out there, and possibly the best one in modern. Having hand disruption, creature removal, and an ult that can sometimes just devastate your opponent makes for a really strong card.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance
is a card I have been debating on for a bit now. She has mana ramp, burn, and creature removal. She also can help out if your hand isn't so good by letting you possibly cast a card from the top of the deck instead. I just think she overall a really good card and deserves a spot as a one of in a deck like this.
