Two new infinite combos in standard, which do you prefer?

With the release of gatecrash comes two new combos (both of which are mtg all stars). Boros Reckoner + Nearheath Pilgrim + Boros Charm = infinite life while Exquisite Blood + an activated Orzhov guildmage = infinite damage. So which do you prefer?

Rayenous says... #2

I like the Boros Reckoner combo better... mainly because it can be done with a number of other card combinations.

White cards that give 'indestructible' (leaving out some of the more 'situational' cards): Avacyn, Angel of Hope - Boros Charm - Frontline Medic - Rootborn Defenses

White cards that give lifeline: Angelic Skirmisher - Azorius Charm - Gift of Orzhova - Moment of Heroism - Nearheath Pilgrim - Swift Justice - Vault of the Archangel - Vizkopa Guildmage

Another good thing about the Boros Reckoner combo is that even if you aren't comboing, Boros Reckoner and Boros Charm are both just excellent cards.

@Rayenous: I had actually forgotten about the Medic@BrennanMcCabe: Reckoner is simply amazing,

Chubbub says... #5

How do you get infinite life? All I see is that you get life equal to the damage dealt to Boros Reckoner .

BrennanM says... #6

@Chubbub you target Boros Reckoner with it's own affect. the indestructibility caused by the charm allows it to go infinite because when something is indestructible, it cannot be destroyed by lethal damage.

There's also the Fiend Hunter + card:Angel of Glory's Rise + Cartel Aristocrat combo.

@meecht: didn't catch that combo but its pretty sweet

BrennanMcCabe thanks for the help. Now that I understand it, I like the Boros Reckoner combo the best.

Also missing the Duskmantle Guildmage + Jace, Memory Adept combo.

February 11, 2013 3:15 p.m.

Chubbub says... #11

Ohthenoises, how is that an infinite combo?

February 11, 2013 3:17 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #12

Not infinite but it's a one shot kill in 99% of cases.

guildmage ability X2 on turn 6 then jace's +0

February 11, 2013 3:20 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #13

It's not an infinite, it's just an instant T6 win. As far as I can tell......

February 11, 2013 3:20 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #14

and far easier to pull off then most of the ones I've seen. Harder to screw with.

reckoner and nearhearth pilgrim soulbond with curse of stalked prey and blasphlemous act onboard is good. Creepy doll instead of thundermaw. Build around that. Still run boros charm.

RedCloud2012 says... #16

None of the mentioned combos are infinite by the way, just nasty single to triple combos. Infinite means I show you a combo that because of and infinite amount of turns or mana or repetition of and ability trigger, I can loop this trick infinite times and simply declare how many times I do it once the opponent understands the trick and they never get their turn back. That is the diffinition of infinite combo.

February 11, 2013 3:38 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #17

No, there are multiple types of infinite combo. They just result in SOMETHING being repeated infinite times.

Rayenous says... #18

@ RedCloud2012

Boros Reckoner is an infinite combo.

When he is indestructible and has lifelink, he can deal his damage to himself. This will cause you to gain life, and re-trigger his ability. You can have him hit himself as many times as you like (ie.: infinitely), and thus choose a number of times to repeat the cycle.

Also, the Fiend Hunter + card:Angel of Glory's Rise + Cartel Aristocrat combo is infinite. Have the angel be removed by Fiend Hunter . Sac the hunter to the Aristocrat, causing the angel to come into play again. This returns the Hunter to play, removing the angel... add in another human with an ETB that can be sac'd and reap the benefits.

Fiend Hunter + card:Angel of Glory's Rise + Cartel Aristocrat is nice, I like using Falkenrath Aristocrat better... infinitely get him massive... Blood Artist works well with both of those combo's

Blood artist is a tediculously powerful card hidden behind an unassuming facade

The Boros combo was possible anyway with Azorius Charm, Boros Charm and any source of damage.

Now you've got Boros Reckoner with Indestructibility and throw in Vizkopa Guildmage in my new deck for M14 infinite life gain and you could do infinite life loss thats if they decide to block a heavily enchanted creature to avoid death but in the end death comes a knockin. Demi-gods!!! is the deck

@rache, do you mean ridiculously? Or were you trying to make some sort of "red" pun because of "blood"?

RedCloud2012 says... #26

In response to @ RedCloud I know the reckoner combo and actually many other color related combo's with legions initiative and battalion effects to force blocks on reckoner or face leathal. You werent telling me anything I didnt already know. Here is a new awsome combo in standard that isnt infinite but just as devestating. Mutavault Junk Rites read the whole deck discription for a full understanding on its function.

Think about it, would you rather have infinite life, or instantly win? I prefer the instant win.

July 16, 2013 11 p.m.

rache says... #30

@assassin54853: A lot of people don't play to win or play to win with different win conditions. A friend of mine has a wall deck that focuses on staying alive until his opponent has decked himself, infinite life combos do the trick nicely.

July 16, 2013 11:22 p.m.

assassin54853 says... #31

Oh, yeah. I completely understand. I, myself, love to watch my opponents suffer.

Lately that's the mindset I've been in so I've been stuck on white weenie builds and my reanimator (when I feel like being a douche or a relatively new players head gets to swollen) but I'm missing more and more the old two hour control war games I used to have so I'm looking to work out some quirkier decks in the near future with funky win cons (or no win con at all)

July 17, 2013 12:14 a.m.

assassin54853 says... #33

Hey, whatever works!

July 17, 2013 11:39 a.m.

Rayenous says... #34

I played a deck for a while which had a win-con of Primal Surge + Elvish Visionary + Laboratory Maniac in a deck with all permanents.

Only got the combo off once... but seeing the look on my opponents face as I put every single card onto the battlefield... having him think I deck death'd myself.... and then pointing out the winning Maniac and Elf, was priceless.

July 17, 2013 11:55 a.m.

assassin54853 says... #35

Oh, that deck sounds like a lot of fun.

July 17, 2013 1:18 p.m.

rache says... #36

Interesting idea, was thinking about basing an edge deck around a similar idea using the maniac, enter the infinite and omniscience, might work the primal surge into the deck
