Rivals of Ixalan reprints

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

I've heard some rumors of Aggravated Assault getting a reprint in RoI. I'm hoping there's some stock to this!

It's been revealed that it's getting a reprint in Explorers of Ixalan, but personally I'm hoping for a standard reprint as I have a casual Savage Ventmaw combo deck that would become modern legal if the reprint were to happen.

Now a question: What reprints do you want to see in Rivals? Maybe more tribal support or thematic things like Explorer's Scope or Expedition Map?

If they did reprint Aggravated Assault it would need new art since ixalan goblins look like monkeys. That new art would undoubtedly be in the Explorers of Ixalan board game; but they've already revealed that it doesn't, sadly

Expedition Map would def fit the theme. Countersquall is another relatively expensive uncommon that would fit in w pirates

As weird as it is, I'd love to see Star Compass in a new border

Strongarm Tactics is fun and thematic

I would like to see Deadeye Navigator.

It's terribly thematic.

However, there is little chance of it seeing a reprint in Standard with Hostage Taker in play.

Could you imagine how many Creatures you could capture?

I changed my mind. With Imperial Aerosaur and Imperial Lancer as part of the sun empire, I want to see Imperial Recruiter get reprinted.

I would like to see the dual lands from Innistrad reprinted (Isolated Chapel, Hinterland Harbor, and so forth), since the dual lands from Magic 2010 were reprinted in Ixalan and two of the tribes are of the same colors as two of those lands (vampires and merfolk).

I also want to see the Innistrad checklands.

Also wouldnt mind Cursecatcher as it wasnt reprinted anyways in the upcoming Goblins vs Merfolk duel deck.

Argy Deadeye Navigator doesn't allow Hostage Taker to exile more than one thing, because it "leaves the battlefield." I actually think the synergy would be balanced (especially because Navigator is 6 mana) and would be great flavor-wise. Also, a Deadeye Navigator/Panharmonicon deck would be amazing.

What are you talking about?

Hostage Taker lets you Exile Creatures and Artifacts over and over ad infinitum, when paired with Deadeye Navigator.

You Exile a Creature or Artifact with Hostage Taker, cast it for its mana cost, flicker Hostage Taker, Exile another Creature or Artifact, cast it, flicker again, as many times as you want.

@Argy: While I agree, that Deadeye Navigator should never be reprinted anywhere again, I think that orzhov_is_relatively_okay819 is referring to the difference between the new and the old wording of those abilities. Compare the wording on Fiend Hunter and Banisher Priest:

Banisher Priest has only one ability that causes a zone change with duration. This means that the exiled creature returns to the battlefield immediately after Banisher Priest leaves the battlefield. It's not possible to abuse this with flicker-effects.

Fiend Hunter by contrast has an etb-ability and an ltb-ability. You can abuse this by responding to the etb-ability with a flicker effect, so that the ltb-ability resolves before the etb-ability. This way you can exile a creature forever.

You're right though, that you can abuse Deadeye Navigator and Hostage Taker when you cast the stolen cards inbetween. God, i hate Deadeye Navigator so much.

I don't know why we are talking about cards which have nothing to do with what my original point was, which still stands ie. Deadeye Navigator would be too strong in the current Standard as it would allow Hostage Taker to be over utilised.

If they DO put it in, you can bet that I will add it to Ahoy, Me Hearties! right away.

I guess Triassic Egg would be a crazy reprint that could work at common

MagicalHacker, Triassic Egg would be great for this set, but its name references a period of history in actuality, so that would likely make it ineligible for a reprint in this set.

Probably true... Sigh... I would be okay with it not being reprinted IF we get Imperial Recruiter though. That said, I totally think it's highly HIGHLY unlikely.
