Spoilers for Core Set 2021 ended only yesterday, and WotC has already begun spoilers for Jumpstart!

Here is an article about the design process of this set, and here is a link to a site with previews.

This set shall contain both new and reprinted cards, which shall be legal in eternal formats or other formats in which they are already legal; i.e., this set shall not change the legality of any of the reprinted cards.

Thus far, the only card in this set that interests me is Maelstrom Archangel, which I am very glad to see reprinted, because it was long overdue for a reprint. None of the other cards are particularly noteworthy, but I shall maintain faith that WotC shall have some great cards in this set, especially after having so many great cards in Core Set 2021.

What does everyone else have to say about this set, thus far? Are you excited for it?

Wasn't Maelstrom Archangel reprinted in Mystery Booster('s?)?

Tinybones seemed fun, I could try it out in my Nath deck.

The new legends they have revealed so far are all pretty cool designs. Kels, Fight Fixer and Neyith of the Dire Hunt both do things that I have wanted their respective colors to do (dimir aristocrats, gruul fight lord) that they haven't done well out of the command zone before.

Tinybones, Trinket Thief. I mean come on Legendary Skeleton! It's so darn adorable. Its not a new design space but its definitely an interesting direction.

The Witch of the Moors is yet another amazing payoff for lifegain decks and I couldn't be happier.

The new lands that come one per pack are easily budget staples for 3+ color decks.

Its always nice to see Reanimate and Maelstrom Archangel.

As for the rest of the spoilers they are all interesting cards that seem like they could be really fun when you think of jumpstarts themed boosters... im noticing a witch/sacrifice theme and im curious to see where it goes.

Moriaatti, it was, but I do not consider that to be a proper reprint, because of the sheer volume and randomization of cards in that set and because it did not use the new card frame style, whereas this is a proper reprint, in my mind.

I love the design of these basic lands.

And I need 18 Witch of the Moors . This cards was made for me.

Oracle of Mul Daya and Exquisite Blood reprints... at rare too... I didn't need them personally but I know a lot of people that are gonna crack a few packs to try and get those.

Wizards is flexing on the reprints lately... will anything interesting be left to reprint in commander legends lol.

Yes! WotC is finally reprinting Rhystic Study! It took them years to do so, but better late than never. Hopefully, this reprint shall lower its cost to a point where it is actually affordable to the majority of players.

Another reprint of Phyrexian Tower is always great, as well. I did not realize that Craterhoof Behemoth has become so expensive, so another reprint of it is very welcome. It is also very nice to see Exquisite Blood reprinted, but I now am worried that WotC may not print a creature version of it for many more sets, yet.

Among the new cards, allosaurus rider will be great for elf decks, but is the first time that elves and dinosaurs have been mentioned on the same card, so I wonder what connection they have to each other?

I wish that both Ravenous Baloth and Thragtusk had been downgraded to uncommons for this set, since, as sad as it may be, power creep has caused them to now be unimpressive for rares.

Allosaurus Rider is a reprint too

Also, do you know how unfun limited would be if Thragtusk was an uncommon? Yuck.

MindAblaze, I accidentally confused Allosaurus Rider with allosaurus shepherd, which is a new card.

I also feel that Momentous Fall is another card that should have been downgraded to an uncommon, but I do fully agree that upgrading Rhystic Study to a rare makes perfect sense.

having Tinybones, Trinket Thief as your commander with a deck containing Anvil of Bogardan, Necrogen Mists, and Bottomless Pit seems like pretty sweet n' steady value

(although ironically, Chains of Mephistopheles seems pretty bad with it)

Pretty excited for the Ulvenwald Hydra reprint. Probably going to be seeing it a lot in MTGArena in Sultai ramp decks, but luckily i'm never in diamond, plat, or mythic, so I'm going to terrorize silver and gold with it as well as Oracle of Mul Daya.

woooo Minotaur tribal woooo

That Pirate rare is pretty disappointing though

Goblin Recruiter is going to get a bit more expensive

June 19, 2020 11:06 a.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #15

Coward_Token, perhaps WotC may reprint it? We can always hope for that.

On that subject, I am very glad to see that Lightning Bolt is being reprinted, again, but why did WotC not give it new artwork? Its current artwork is nice, but it has been used many times, by this time, so I feel that it deserves new artwork, and the same is true for Chromatic Sphere, as well, whose current artwork I feel is rather dull and unexciting.

Not really liking Inniaz contributing to the trend of hybrid costs being bendy trough a mono-blue pump ability. Also I guess Ashiok is a djinn maybe?

Millstone Island!

Zurzoth, Chaos Rider: brings some pain to Rhystic Study. Still, there's imo not quite enough good Devils to make a tribal EDH deck non-awkward yet. Note that in EDH, you'll need one Devil per opponent to get multiple tokens

Spiteful Prankster: a Hissing Iguanar that can actually survive combat is pretty nice for mono-R

Branching Evolution: too many +1/+1 counter decks have felt compelled to include Doubling Season when they don't really need a lot of it features; this is a fair yet aggressively costed alternative, thumbs up

Immolating Gyre: interesting one-sided wipe for spellslinger decks, although those don't care as much about creatures in the first place

June 20, 2020 5:04 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #18

WotC has posted an article providing lore for the legendary creatures in Jumpstart, so I shall add them to my list of legendary creatures.

June 23, 2020 5:42 p.m.

Coward_Token says... #19

In hindsight I wish Immolating Gyre took a page out of the Guilds of Ravnica Izzet cards' playbook and counted spell cards you own in exile as well. With the exception of maybe Rielle, the Everwise, pretty much all -inclusive spellslinger commanders wants to be able to use flashback-esque effects, so there's some awkwardness here that's IMO unwarranted; when you got a CMC 6 card that both requires setup and a certain deckbuilding criteria, I think we can cut it some slack.

I am displeased that there shall not be any foil cards in this set, since I am very fond of foil cards, and it would have been nice to be able to have some of the long-awaited reprints in foil form.

Very important find: one of the goblins in the background of Muxus, Goblin Grandee's art seems to be riding a motorbike.

June 28, 2020 3:43 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #22

Coward_Token, nice job, noticing that! It is likely an in-joke by the artist, unless they are implying that Muxus is from a plane that has vehicles.
