Choosing a General

Commander Deck Help forum

So, I have the budget (decks will still be quasi-budget ~$10 cards) to make another deck and need help deciding whom to choose. I already own some of the most expensive staples in the decks listed.

Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper Goblin Tribal: it's not Wort bc my buddy runs her and Krenko is in my Purphoros deck. offers a lot of thing unavailable to . The general helps persuade would-be boardwipes. Shattergang Brothers is better off as a build-around. Example: Sek'kuar's Sacrificial Horde

Doran, the Siege Tower: I'm avoiding Abzan goodstuff.dec and voltron. Simple, play big butts and swing while locking down the board via Crackdown/Meekstone/Marble Titan ect. One sided boardwipes also help punch through. The taste of vanilla critters leaves me apprehensive. Example: Doran Smash and Control

Anafenza, the Foremost or Ghave, Guru of Spores: +1/+1 counters. Perhaps some Hydra fun. Yes, I've looked at Abzan quite a bit lately. Probably not the broken combo route with Ghave. Tokens do interest me but I'm not going to use Doubling Season, too expensive.

Flanking "tribal." It's more like a knight tribal deck considering most things with flanking are knights. I threw this list together in like 20 minutes and was something I thought of a long time ago. So real rough sketch. List: Flanking Tribal

Last but not least spider tribal with Ishkanah, Grafwidow

In my opinion, Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper has always seemed like a fun commander that could be done on a budget. Green really smooths out Red and Black in addition to the ETB effects. Add in the usual sacrifice outlets Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer, etc. all splashed with recursion and youre building a token army and going to value town with the ETB effects. Toss in Panharmonicon while it is cheap and youre going to get even more value out of the ETB effects. Then toss in some creatures with death effects and some board wipes and youve a deck that should run fairly smoothly. Depending upon your budget, a Parallel Lives will help out with the tokens.

Thanks for he response!

I was running Sek'kuar largely for access to things like Beastmaster Ascension, Triumph of the Hordes, Fecundity, Bow of Nylea, and Descendants' Path- all things that pair nicely with a goblin tribal. Genesis Wave could be a beast especially if it hits Goblin Warchief/Goblin Chieftain. Goblins love to sac other goblins as well lol and buff each other. So Sek'kuar is largely a protection against boardwipes (how did I forget to add Mogg Infestation?) with the added bonus of adding to his own cannon fodder.

Parallel Lives has been on my list for a while. Should get it before it jumps up like Doubling Season.

Flagellum Yes, I honestly also don't think it will jump TOO much as the main reason Doubling Season did was because Atraxa is just f**king busted.

It jumped before Atraxa. It's simply busted with any token or counter strategy.

Oh, I see what you were saying. I thought that you were talking about the 30 jump it did recently after going down some.
