Zendikar's Best and Brightest: Goblins (Vorthos)

Casual Aggro Goblins RUW (Jeskai, America) Theme/Gimmick

Sideboard

This deck is designed to be played in a match with the story of The Battle of Zendikar in mind. Winning a match is not really important here, actually, it's probably not even much of an option. I'm interested in trying to make an enjoyable play experience to take to FNM for those that, like me, enjoy the story and want to use the cards and gameplay to explore the possibilities even further.

When Gideon returns to Zendikar with Jace, they travel to find the refuge of survivors. What has been lost to the histories is their encounter with a band of Goblins along the way. The Goblins have realized that the Eldrazi pose an existential threat to their way of life, although they might not put it in exactly those terms. They have joined the fight against Ulamog and his spawn, but they are hopelessly outmatched. Although they fight and die with great courage and little regard for their individual lives, theirs is a lost cause. Suddenly, two beings, literally radiating power, appear in their midst. Gideon and Jace have stumbled upon a band of Goblins readying for yet another foray against the invaders. Gideon recognizes that the goblins are trying to do the right thing, and convinces a reluctant Jace that they are obliged to lend a hand.

This deck is designed to be played in two parts. In the first game of the match, The mono-red goblin version is played. Although a fun deck to play, its win-con is fragile. Play lots of goblins, play Goblin Piledriver. Next turn swing with all after dropping a Subterranian Scout making the Piledriver unblockable. Or play lots of goblins, play Zada, Hedron Grinder, pump your whole team and swing in. Any combination of these strategies are an option as well.

The real fun comes during the sideboard, when all 15 cards are inserted into the deck to represent the arrival of Gideon and Jace.

Out: 1xLavastep Raider 1xGoblin Glory Chaser 1x Mardu Scout 1xCollateral Damage 1xHordeling Outburst 1xTemur Battle Rage 1xTitan's Strength 1xImpact Tremors 7xMountain

As a side note, fully 1/2 of the cost of this build is made up of one card: Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  . I would add a second copy, but I don't have one, and it possibly adds to the flavor of the deck to make the win-con less reliant on Jace.
