Clerics were a secondary tribe in Onslaught block. I never liked them back then because they seemed too fragile and one-dimensional. But eventually Morningtide came and Battletide Alchemist was printed, bringing the Cleric player some much-needed survivability.

The deck is pretty simple. There are a variety of Clerics that do a variety of things. Rather than go though them all, I'll just list the most important ones. There's Rotlung Reanimator , who causes every dead Cleric to rise up as a zombie token. Cabal Archon turns every Cleric into a potential 2 point drain. Doubtless One gets big fast and keeps you in the game much longer. And there's Vile Deacon , who attacks for a lot and combos nicely with the Starlit Sanctum for a second chance or a quick kill.

The key noncreature is Profane Prayers . This one is either a removal spell or a finisher. Think of it as this deck's version of Corrupt. Just because I didn't have a good place to put it in any of my other decks, I threw in a pair of Phthisis as another removal/finisher. Plus it's fun to listen to opponents try to pronounce it.

I'm absolutely certain that better Clerics and probably better Orzhov cards have been printed since the last time I looked at the deck. I just have to take the time to find them.
