That's right! None of that sissy blue stuff in here. Straight Gruul, straight to the face.
The basic idea is to ramp into a big old artifact fatty and either stomp face directly, or blow them up to kill the opponent. This deck has a bunch of fun combos with Life's Legacy, Scourge of Skola Vale , Shrapnel Blast and Twinflame, which are all quite easy to pull off, and very effective. It also allows you to switch your game plan up at any point to adjust to board states!
Turn 4 win is possible (albeit not extremely likely)!
The Cards
Creatures:
Elvish Mystic, Sylvan Caryatid and Generator Servant ramp like hell with a side of haste.
Juggernaut drops early to put the pressure on and start swinging.
Scourge of Skola Vale easily grows into a massive trampler to push through damage.
Scuttling Doom Engine is a powerhouse. Sac him to Shrapnel Blast for 11 dmg, or after attacking for a 17 point turn. If they try to remove him, sac him to Scourge of Skola Vale for growth + 6 dmg. Sac him to Life's Legacy to replenish the hand + 6 dmg. He is straight up value always.
Soul of New Phyrexia is protection and trample.
Xenagos, God of Revels provides us with hasty 12/12 doom engines, or doubles up a token from Twinflame and sac it to Scourge of Skola Vale .
Spells:
Shrapnel Blast can be used on our artifacts, or their tokens after a Twinflame for tons of damage.
Twinflame = more fatties! End of turn sac the tokens to one of our many outlets for insane value.
Life's Legacy replenish the hand using tokens, artifacts, or stolen creatures.
Harness by Force takes their guys and attack. follow it up with a Scourge of Skola Vale or Life's Legacy sac to not only remove their creature, but get mass benefits!
Other:
- Bow of Nylea is super versatile for this deck. Having options if the game goes longer is crucial, and the deathtouch on attacking definitely helps with combat trading. Also, if I draw a second one, I can just Shrapnel Blast the one on the field.
Sideboard:
The sideboard needs alot of work, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Basically it plays like this:
- Anger of the Gods deals with aggro/weenies.
- Phyrexian Revoker neuters walkers
- Profane Memento and Tormod's Crypt deal with delvers.
- Fated Conflagration deals with fatty decks or walkers.
If you take out the 3x Wooded Foothills and replace them with basics, this build becomes a nice <$100 budget build. I only have them in here because I managed to pull a them. The are not necessary to the build and only add a small amount of consistency.
