Dragons of Tarkir Mono Blue Devotion

Standard Aggro Devotion Mono-Blue

colinberan

Sideboard

Mono blue Devotion rebuilt for Dragons of Tarkir.

The Creature Base:

One Drops

-Gudul Lurker: Unblockable 1/1 with potential to be a 2/2 if drawn late enough in the game. Speaks for itself.

-Hypnotic Siren: Flying might as well read "Unblockable." Potential to be bestowed if drawn late enough.

Two Drops

- Frost Walker : Has the illusion effect and next to no toughness, but this dude is mean. Trades with nearly anything they'll drop turn two or turn three.

-Stratus Dancer: 2/1 flier for 2, not a bad deal going on here. The biggest reason I have for running this guy is the potential to two-for-one your opponent on board wipes or kill spells given the chance to megamorph this bad boy. Not only does it keep your other dudes alive, but it gets a little bigger in the process. Though you won't see me holding it back a turn if it's my only two drop in hand.

Three Drops

-Thassa, God of the Sea: Pretty much self-explanatory. Fixes our draws and makes our dudes (with the exception of Frost Walker ) unblockable. Ideally we turn her on and immediately have at least a four-turn clock.

- Shorecrasher Elemental : The big guy that made this deck even remotely fathomable. Pretty much a bad AEtherling, but has its strong points. Mainly to power on Thassa and feed Master of Waves , but also can potentially help trigger Ferocious on Stubborn Denial and Icy Blast .

- Silumgar Sorcerer : Counters their dudes while also giving us a dude.

Four Drops

- Master of Waves : Our only four drop creature and the end of our curve. Mandatory inclusion in mono blue decks. Ideally we resolve one and win the game soon after. Also helps to make Frost Walker and Shorecrasher Elemental a bit larger.

Other

-Reality Shift: Just about our only real removal mainboard. Use it wisely.

- Hall of Triumph : Tired of your opponent killing all of your elementals just by killing your Master of Waves? Won't be happening with this guy on the field. Also helps to make all of our small evasive dudes just a little bit bigger. Really puts pressure on our opponent if not dealt with. Considering there isn't a lot of artifact removal roaming around Standard, it should be pretty safe.

-Bident of Thassa: Some of you might be wondering why I went with Bident over Military Intelligence. Mainly decided to do so because with all the evasive dudes in this deck, it should help fill up the hand that much faster. That and there's a decent bit of potential in its activation.

The Sideboard:

-Disdainful Stroke/Negate/Stubborn Denial: A nice set of permission spells to keep our opponent from playing stuff we don't want them to. Nullifies and Disdainful Strokes find themselves at home against midrange decks and pretty much everything but the Nullifies work well against control.

- Encase in Ice : See red or green dudes? Bring it in. Frees up the ground and helps our devotion.

-Monastery Siege: Works well against really grindy matches with the extra card draw. And in heavy removal decks, it COULD be brought in for the Frost Titan-esque effect.

- Wall of Frost : Pretty much ruins aggro decks. Clogs up the ground and messes up their attacks for more than just the current turn.

-Profaner of the Dead: Alpha strikes red decks and board wipes tokens.
