So it's no secret that Blood Moon decks exist. Sun & Moon is also a popular deck involving Blood Moon and some other important control elements in WR.
So I decided to create my own Blood Moon deck. But as I used it, I was trying a werewolf shell, with the
Full Moon's Rise
being the second moon.
But as I tested that deck, the
Full Moon's Rise
was rather hard to build with, and there weren't very many synergies. So I decided to take a different moon, which is Bad Moon.
So using Bad Moon, I decided to at first try tokens. I considered using cards like Bitterblossom and
Cryptbreaker
, but while it did utilize a lot of the Bad Moon's anthem effect, it didn't particularly appear synergistic with Blood Moon, and thusly was scrapped. As well, it was incredibly slow and if the opponent had larger creatures it was a losing battle.
So then I decided to look to just normal black creatures. I wasn't really sure what to use, so I just kinda looked working up the curve. Then I found
Sanitarium Skeleton
, a rather recent card which I knew was very hard to remove so I figured maybe that was the right way. I added a few more skeletons, such as Reassembling Skeleton and
Tenacious Dead
, and tried it out with some simple B/R removal (Fatal Push, Lightning Bolt, Terminate, & Inquisition of Kozilek and some Phyrexian Arenas.
This idea was pretty effective, but it needed another little kick, so I looked to add more skeletons, of which I didn't really like any. They all needed regeneration or didn't recur at all. So I looked at popular Jund decks, of which was somewhat becoming a model. I realized that Phyrexian Arena is really not the right card for this deck, and I found a neat card called
Nether Traitor
. This had synergies with all my dying skeletons as an easy card to get back, and it could get in for some easy damage.
The land base was the simplest part, just mostly basic swamps (basic mountain for paths) and some non-basics for BR (Dragonskull Summit & Blood Crypt).
