Going back and checking my old Standard decks and seeing if there is any way I can keep them up to date just for fun. Unfortunately, even though I loved this deck, it obviously can't be kept up to date. Thus it is archived and format swapped to casual.

Cringe thanks for the suggestion!

Immolating Glare is definitely one of the better removals to come out of OGW an it looks like it is definitely worth running. What would you suggest I take out? I think it's safe to say that it replaces Silkwrap. While Silkwrap has its uses, like hitting Jace when Immolating Glare would not, but on the other hand Immolating Glare does not limit me to early threats only, and is an answer to Mantis Rider, while with Silkwrap I would take a hit before I get to remove it.

What do you think? I think that's probably the best swap.

The_Riddlebox probably Silkwrap, yeah. Looks like all your other spells (i.e. Dig Through Time) are pretty necessary and should keep their slots. We'll see how OGW rolls out, but I think you made the right choice.

Maybe Languish or Transgress the Mind are replaceable

January 22, 2016 7:57 a.m.

Cringe, I half agree on Languish but Transgress the Mind is a negative. The only thing I would replace it with is either 2 more copies of Duress or Despise. Hand disruption is so good, even if it misses it offers information about your opponent's hand, and ontop of that hand disruption is just key against mirror matches.

The_Riddlebox fair enough. In that case I think Silkwrap is the right spell to remove.

Seriously with so many rally decks you should run some hallowed in your side

I like this deck so I hope you don't mind that I built it and played it. So my results were first round 2-1: against a green white dragon deck I think? Not sure what it was, that some guy was converting into a EDH deck I only lost one hand due to being flooded. Second round 1-2: Part the Waterveil deck this was an interesting deck I tell you, they sided in counter spells for your counters and some bad shuffling on my part is what cost me, so major error on my part. I only won the first hand due to Dragonlord Dromoka really saved me on that part. Round three 2-0: against an Eldrazi deck once the dragons came out with the counters and removal the game was in my favor. Round four 0-2: lost to a Black white aggro deck that by turn five I couldn't do anything against it once again I think it was do to my poor shuffling then geting cut into a bad spot, so my error. Great deck and you made a change on it after I get a hold of the cards so I didn't have Immolating Glare and neither did I have your sideboard also so sorry if I had the SB with it I think I might have done better but I didn't see any Ally decks tonight so over all I got 6th with a win/loss record of 2-2. If your thinking of finding a replacement for Languish I would go Grasp of Darkness but I would make that a maybeboard idea great spot removal for most creatures in this format. A suggestion from me is maybe think about using Negate over Dispel yes I know it costs one more but it's a great card for everything non creature but that's me. Otherwise great deck +1 from me.

also The_Riddlebox I'm too damn poor to buy those fetch lands so I also didn't have them either.

I would just have 1 Dragonlord Dromoka in your sideboard for control strategies. :-)

I am glad you enjoyed and built the deck :)

Fetch lands definitely make this deck way better than it would be without it. Honestly if fetch lands were not in I probably would not have played Esper in particular, much less 4 colors. The new tango lands also helped a lot too. The reason I have Dispel over negate, is strictly to win counter wars in control match ups, but swapping it out for Negate is definitely not a bad choice as it does hit more targets, I just prefer Dispel for the purpose that I am running it. Still, good suggestion and glad you enjoyed the deck :)

MorgsJ

Thanks for the suggestion, and while that might be a good option I prefer it as a 2 of in the MB. He is good not just against control, but many other match ups. Not only does it help me stabilize against mid range decks (or aggro decks if I can grind out long enough)), but it also puts my opponent in an odd spot as he now has to play Instants almost at Sorcery speed. Not to mention is probably one of the biggest bodies in standard, a 5/7 with flying is not a joke. I may end up running one copy, but that would still be in the MB :)

Celestial Flare is good against hexproof.

January 31, 2016 11:14 a.m.

Quicksilver

While that is a nice suggestion, I don't particularly like Celestial Flare for a few reasons:

  • Are there really that many creatures with Hexproof being played right now, other than the dragons?

  • I already have few ways of dealing with them like Crux of Fate, Languish, Foul-Tongue Invocation, as well as just outright countering it.

  • While not a biggie, it's situational.

  • The double white cost is harsh early game as I normally try to have double blue as soon as I can for Silumgar's Scorn.

Also going to revert Monastery Mentor to Gideon, Ally of Zendikar / Sorin, Solemn Visitor. I am seeing way too many Izzet-ish decks being played at the moment from what I see, and they pack too many removals like Fiery Impulse for it to be any good.
