I finished 5-1 with this Bant Control list and we split the top 4... This is what I saw:
Round 1: I won 2-0 because my opponent didn't have his BG zombies list finished... He scooped to me, but we played for fun with him using proxies. Terminus and Thragtusk are a house against him
Round 2: I won 2-0 vs mono black zombies. Dude got a free win round 1because his opponent was finishing a draft when round started... I hit Jace and Tamiyo's ultimates against him both games
Round 3: I lost 1-2 vs Bant Control. Game 1 took 35 minutes, and I won with a miracle entreat. I got mana screwed pretty hard games 2-3.
Round 4: I won 2-0 vs BR Zombies. Again, Tamiyo and Thragtusk are too good against this archetype, especially when I can Detention Sphere all 4 of his Gravecrawlers and two of his Messengers.
Round 5: I won 2-0 vs Bant Midrange. Getting Angel of Serenity combo and Tamiyo online was too much for him.
Round 6 - Top 8: I won 2-1 vs BG Zombies. I stabilized with Centaur Healers, Sphinx's Revelation, and Thragtusk, while keeping his remaining threats locked down with Tamiyo. The decks that lost were 2x Selesnya Lifegain Midrange, 1x BG Zombies, 1x UR Delver
Round 7 - Top 4: we decided to split. I would have had a rematch against my Round 3 opponent, and nobody wanted to sit through a three hour control mirror. The top 4 consisted of 2x BG Zombies and 2x Bant Control
What I noticed from the night was:
Life gain is huge...especially if you can't out race a Zombie god hand.
Zombies are not that hard to beat. Any control deck can wipe the floor with them.
Thragtusk...Thragtusk everywhere...
Zombies are everywhere. This is THE aggro deck for the time being
If you want to play control, Bant is the way to go...Even if you're just splashing Thragtusk
Garruk Relentless is undervalued right now. I was running two main, and he's really good at keeping dudes off the field, either by making wolves, or smacking trolls in the face when they tap out for them.
