Well... Play land, creature, and big creature that's how it should be working.

With some ramping you can play the big ones. But if you don't have the right cards, or not enough mana. No problem, you can still be able to get those monsters!

This is a possible starting hand to get a big creature at T1:Swamp; Dark Ritual -> 3 mana in you pool; Putrid Imp -> discard a monster; Reanimate or Exhume and get that monster to the battlefield.
