@Phaetion, If you mind my asking, what card did you add?

Woo, first comment on page 9!

Sweet. I like the cards in Atraxa's deck. Not for her thought, but to put in other decks.

Im putting pw's and infect in hers.

Atony1400: It seems like most of the cards I submitted got accepted. Only Magus of the Will and Armory Automaton remain unaccounted for.

Atony1400 says... #4

Don't look at me, I didn't add those ones,

Phaetion says... #5

I know you didn't. I was just saying. :)

Who else just LOVES C16??

October 28, 2016 9:06 p.m.

Phaetion says... #7

I was just testing 4 of the decks. They play quite well; I'm more than impressed. Even the group hug deck is nice.

CChaos says... #8

The weakest deck and value is Saskia.

October 28, 2016 10:07 p.m.

Phaetion says... #9

CChaos: But that deck also has an infinite combo: Breath of Fury + Tana, the Bloodsower . Here's how it works:

Have Tana and another creature (equipped with Breath) attack an open opponent. Stack triggers so Tana resolves first to get 2 saprolings. Then resolve Breath, saccing the other creature and moving the aura to one of the tokens. Rinse, repeat. Oh, and you'd need a haste outlet.

October 28, 2016 10:31 p.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #10

Phaetion, Concordant Crossroads? It's in the right colors.

(As if I would see a haste enabler in blue tho)

October 28, 2016 10:42 p.m.

Phaetion says... #11

Red is known for haste. Corssroads isn't really needed. Just slam a Fervor in there and you're all set.

October 28, 2016 10:50 p.m.

Most Saskia decks will probably be running some combination of Urabrask the Hidden, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Anger, Hammer of Purphoros, and Ogre Battledriver so haste shouldn't be an issue.

October 28, 2016 11:01 p.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #13

Good point Phaetion. Also, unlike crossroads Fervor only gives YOUR guys haste.

Also, to everyone who is saying the saskia deck is bad, sure. But with upgrades it can be a MONSTER.

Here's a scenario:

Opponents: 3, one of them having a weak/tapped board presence and the others having strong board presence. Assumption is that they all have 40 life.

Addition: Panharmonicon.

Parts: Panharmonicon, Army, enough mana to cast Saskia the Unyielding.

Execution: Play Saskia, trigger is doubled by Panharmonicon, choose the two oppenents with strong presence. Alpha Strike at weak player. With pump spells, you can potentially kill all three opponents at once.

God hand I know, but it means there is potentially

October 28, 2016 11:09 p.m.

Phaetion says... #14

Panharmonicon doesn't work. I believe the key wording is "As you cast CARDNAME..."

But yes, Saskia, when fully modified, is terrifying. Even playtesting the preconstructed deck gave me a taste of her real power.

For haste, don't forget In the Web of War, Xenagos, God of Revels, Hall of the Bandit Lord and Slayers' Stronghold.

I am very sorry to say that I find Ludevic to be underwhelming, just as I did Freyalise and Nahiri, as well. Ludevic certainly is not weak by any measure, but he simply is not as awesome as I was expecting him to be, for someone with his level of hype. Does anyone else here feel that way, as well?

Phaetion, I see; thank you very much.

October 29, 2016 1:24 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #16

How do you make a big, bomby necro-alchemist in blue and red that needs to go in a group hug, artifact, or destruction themed deck? It's pretty hard.

October 29, 2016 5 a.m.

K34 says... #17

DemonDragonJ, I agree. I feel like all the partner commanders got nerfed pretty hard.

October 29, 2016 7:14 a.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #18

Phaetion, Ah, I see it now. It says "As Saskia the Unyielding enters the battlefield", not "When Saskia the Unyielding enters the battlefield". My mistake.

And yet, she is still an absolute monster.

October 29, 2016 10:22 a.m.

griz024 says... #19

@AwezomePozzum

Does sasika's ability work with Strionic Resonator then or are "as you cast" abilities not triggered abilities?

October 29, 2016 2:31 p.m.

AwezomePozzum says... #20

No idea. Will have to look into that

October 29, 2016 2:38 p.m.

Vectoro says... #21

Abilities that use "as you cast" or "as (object) enters the battlefield" and the like are replacement effects, so they cannot be interacted with by Strionic Resonator. In fact, as of yet nothing can interact with replacement effects. Plus, in the reminder text of the resonator it defines what counts as a triggered ability (ones that use "when", "whenever", or "at").

October 29, 2016 3:33 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #22

griz024, Saskia's enters-the-battlefield ability will not work with Strionic Resonator, because it is not a triggered ability, but her second ability will, since it is a triggered ability.

October 29, 2016 3:42 p.m.

griz024 says... #23

Vectoro, DemonDragonJ

Ty for the explanations guys

October 29, 2016 6:48 p.m.

Atony1400 says... #24

@DemonDragonJ, I agree, Ludivec is underwhelming.

October 29, 2016 7:25 p.m.

Podma101 says... #25

I honestly feel like they should have just NOT print Ludivec for this set if they were going to shoe horn him into such a difficult archetype as DarkLaw describes. If he wasn't going to be made with a full design space to represent the "image" that has been built around him, they could have easily saved his card for further down the road or something. Certainly not what we got. Nerfing due to the partner mechanic aside, he feels weak and does not match the image that Wizards has created around him.

October 29, 2016 7:54 p.m.

CChaos says... #26

If they do to Leshrac with what they did to Ludivec, I will be angry.

October 29, 2016 11:07 p.m.

Phaetion says... #27

One question: Could it be possible to build the Kings as a deck other than group hug? The card being a bit generic seems to allow for it.

October 29, 2016 11:37 p.m.

Phaetion says... #28

Nvm. A little research goes a long way.

October 29, 2016 11:49 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #29

Podma101, with you having said that, I am wary that WotC may not be able to make a truly impressive card of Edgar Markov, a character whom I have been desiring to see in the cards since the original Innistrad block.

CChaos, I do like the fact that Leshrac was quoted on a card in this set, but, if he is to ever actually appear in the game, it will need to be on an amazingly awesome card, to befit one of his iconic status in the lore of the game.

October 30, 2016 9:27 a.m.

I'm still waiting for Scriptus Fleen, Flectomancer from Wild Ricochet, I know he isn't technically a character, and I don't normally like kithkin, but he'd be soo cool!

greyninja says... #31

Quick question; are there any wizards worth running in Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder that add solid tribal support? There's gotta be a million wizards in those colors lol and idk much about the tribe

October 30, 2016 10:51 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #32

greyninja Other than simply good cards, no. The tribal support is in blue and artifacts.

October 30, 2016 11:39 a.m.
October 30, 2016 1:48 p.m.

Wizard tribal is just ridiculously blue.

October 30, 2016 2:42 p.m.

K34 says... #35

I think breya should have been a wizard rather than a human. She's clearly missing large parts of her human body.

October 30, 2016 3:55 p.m.

Arvail says... #36

Sure, loads of wizard. Few make it worth playing lots of other wizards though.

October 30, 2016 3:59 p.m.

Tyr_W says... #37

I've added 2 decks. Is there already a place where I can find the others?

I have a question about how Faerie Artisans works with breya. Lets say i already have a token from the artisans. if an opponent has another creature etb under their control are both on the board at the same time for a moment? I assume so from the txt on the card, but idk. Basically wondering if you could sack both to breya's ability before one disappears.

October 31, 2016 4:29 p.m.

They are on the battlefield for a moment while the ability is resolving. However, because an object on the stack is resolving, no player has priority, so you cannot activate Breya's ability to sacrifice them. By the time you can activate it, the old token has already been exiled.

RedUndead40 says... #41

On the note of creature types, Saskia the Unyielding totally should have been a Human Warrior.

October 31, 2016 5:38 p.m.

EpicFreddi says... #42

That's very true. She's a savage brute, not an organized tactician.

October 31, 2016 5:59 p.m.

griz024 says... #43

Raging_Squiggle

Ty for the explanation. I forgot about players not being able to respond as abilities are resolving.

Looks like faerie artisan will be getting the axe in my breya deck.

October 31, 2016 6:28 p.m.

However, if you flicker her with Deadeye Navigator and spells, the old token will remain while you get the new token as well. So she's not entirely useless in a Breya deck.

October 31, 2016 6:47 p.m.

Zakass says... #45

In my opinion the Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder pre-con seems to be one of the weakest among the 5. Many of the cards in it just seem out of place with its theme of "chaos". But with a few upgrades I think I can make it a pretty fun deck.

November 1, 2016 11:42 p.m.

griz024 says... #46

Raging_Squiggle

I did not think of that. That makes Faerie Artisans pretty interesting in a blink deck. Just blink them after someone plays a creature you want to keep.

November 2, 2016 9:11 a.m.

DarkLaw says... #47

Yidris is a wheel deck for some reason, but I wouldn't say it's as bad as Saskia. It just looks like generic aggro.

November 2, 2016 2:09 p.m.

DemonDragonJ says... #48

Mark Rosewater commented that WotC had considered having two- or three-colored creatures with abilities that required mana of different colors to fit in the theme of four-colored decks, but that they ultimately did not use that idea. Why did they not pursue that idea?

November 2, 2016 4:04 p.m.

kanokarob says... #49

They outlined it in an article, but most ideas boiled down to either "the design space is too small," "the abilities are too similar and/or bland," or "it's needlessly complex."

They weren't even wholly satisfied with the idea they ended up going with, it just ended up being better than the others.

November 2, 2016 10:51 p.m.

Errast says... #50

Saskia the Unyielding works with infect as well, since the creature itself deals the damage. Throw a Tainted Strike in when the creature's attack lands, and you can knock out 2 players with 1 creature.
