Specifically, cards wit a CMC of 3 or less that can protect my mono-blue commander from being Dreadbore d (without paying extra mana).
Examples: Spellskite , Lightning Greaves , Daring Apprentice , and Kira, Great Glass-Spinner ...
Any others?

ljs54321, well that you have to pay one extra mana for. I meant like things you don't have to pay mana to do the actual protecting.

Demarge, so obvious, but that is perfect! I can't believe I didn't think of that! lol
lil_cheez, I mean like cards that will protect my four-drop commander when I tap out on turn four for her. Those cards protect her if I pay for them.
I'm starting to realize my question may not be clear...
What cards can protect a 4-drop mono-blue commander from a Dreadbore if I tap out turn 4 for the commander?

lol Nothing i can think of that you haven't really listed. You're gonna have to be prepared to wait and be patient until you have the mana to protect it sometimes. Just how it goes. Oh and for mono blue, Neurok Stealthsuit is a must i think, better than boots and greaves in most situations

atreyujames, that is definitely an interesting card, and I agree that it probably is better than the boots or greaves in most situations in a blue deck. I don't think I'll put it in mine, simply because my deck doesn't need to keep creatures alive (other than the commander).
lil_cheez, those cards are awesome! You really found a lot of good cards! Because of personal preference, I am choosing not to use the tax/counter cards ("unless you pay ___" counters), which leaves just Disrupting Shoal , Foil , Thwart , Mental Misstep , and Pact of Negation . Still, those five cards are really powerful, and I will definitely have to consider them deeply.

Misdirection is of a similar vein to Force of Will , if you have the budget to cover it. Turn their Dreadbore back at their commander. It's more conditional, though.
