IKO Update —May 5, 2020
This update brings a fairly large change, some of it due to IKO, and some of it due to changes in personal preferences. As before, you can switch the grouping to Custom to see the Core/Flex tags.
Cuts: - Kraul Harpooner - Voice of Many - Somberwald Stag - Harmonize - Lupine Prototype - Snow-Covered Forest
Adds: - Lightning Greaves - Swiftfoot Boots - Mana Vault - Kogla, the Titan Ape - Hyrax Tower Scout - Castle Garenbrig
The only addition from Ikoria is Kogla, the Titan Ape at this time, and with him comes Hyrax Tower Scout. Kogla has the unique ability to both fight a creature and deal with troublesome artifacts/enchantments. His ability to bounce a Human also allows a new infinite with Selvala with Hyrax Tower Scout. The fact that it comes with removal helps with the occasional conundrum where you have to decide whether to burn a tutor on removal. Well, now you can get removal and a combo piece together. Additionally, he can bounce loop Eternal Witness.
This update also brings a small protection package with Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots. Although they sometimes are awkward to go off with, they allow you to threaten more consistently turn after turn due to not needing to recast Selvala and wait a turn cycle. They also enable an infinite mana loop with Selvala and Temur Sabertooth by replaying Selvala, equipping, and tapping for mana. Mana Vault is also coming in with them as it enables a nice curve of t1 vault, t2 Selvala with Greaves. It also helps with hard cast of some your larger spells and creatures. Castle Garenbrig is also coming in for this same reason. Low opportunity cost for a small mana boost to help cast your more expensive spells.
What about Jeweled amulet instead of Mox diamond, losing the land always gets me into trouble

You can run amulet but I don't like it too much. It's similar to lotus petal or ESG where it can get you to casting Selvala on 2 but doesn't really help you much after that. With diamond, you basically just played your land faster at the cost of a card, but it enables more powerful things on turn 1.

How about The Great Henge ? should be easy to cast off of a big power up, get some life/mana everytime it's tapped and a card drawn every time a creature comes in.

Too close to glimpse of nature and I don’t like glimpse of nature. It has an upside of hanging around for grind games. I think it’s worth testing but I don’t believe in it enough to put it in the list without testing.

With the removal of primal command, doesn't it remove a backup wincon (if temur Saber tooth gets killed/exiled)
October 4, 2019 3:16 a.m.
You still have finale of devastation for large X. As long as there are at least 2 non-overlapping ways to win in the deck, I’m not worried about making cuts for better cards. If you like primal command or feel more comfortable with the backup, you can swap one of the flex slots for it.

Old Fogey is fun if your play group allows it, love the flavor. I'm testing Summer Bloom , Krosan Wayfarer and Eater of Days (i know these cards are sorta bad buti like them hehe, but I am playing in a meta that doesn't allow inf combos, so no sabertooth, staff or umbral.
Was wondering if you had any recommendations for deck changes if you can't play those three cards (sabertooth, umbral, staff) so you have to rely on fully storming out without inf mana? In my testing I am still able to pull off turn 3-5 wins consistently, but there could be improvements i am missing.

also i would be very interested to hear your opinions on Gilded Goose and whether Thorn Mammoth is a viable replacement for Somberwald Stag .
October 6, 2019 2:47 a.m.
autompne If you can’t make actual infinite I’m not sure the answer to your question fits within the spirit of that rule and I can’t encourage pubstomping your LGS in any way. However, non-infinite wincons are definitely possible via Craterhoof Behemoth or Finale of Devastation.
Gilded Goose isn’t good enough, but may be fine in a budget build. It’s basically Jeweled Amulet but more expensive to recharge.
I do think Thorn Mammoth is worth testing. It’s very expensive to cast but is a lot more powerful than Stag.

Another potential replacement for Somberwald Stag would be Wicked Wolf . Only has 3 power, but 1 mana less. Also you might include Gilded Goose which can create Food for it.
I really do not like Kenrith's Transformation over Song of the Dryads . Song just hits so much more targets
October 9, 2019 10:07 a.m.
Yea I’ve been thinking about wicked wolf. I don’t think the difference between 4 and 5 mana is super huge for this deck, could definitely go either way on this. I’m more interested in thorn mammoth because its a way more powerful effect.
Kenrith’s transformation is a flex slot (group by Custom on decklist), so if you want to run song, by all means, go for it.

So Nylea, Sharp Eyes just got spoiled. Opinions on using her as a Mana dump?
Creature spells you cast cost 1 less to cast.
2G: Reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put it into your hand. Otherwise you may put it into your graveyard.
I've been running Duskwatch Recruiter for a while to fish for things like Walking Ballista or the like but this seems miles better, especially considering the "may put into your graveyard" as well as making Phyrexian Dreadnought cost 0. Even though she is 3G to cast I think it'll be well worth it.
December 30, 2019 3:03 p.m.
Ronave No, I think she’s worse than Duskwatch. The initial cost is higher, she’s slightly harder to tutor for as an infinite mana outlet, and the dig is way worse (1 card for 3 vs 3 cards for 3). The discount isn’t that good in my opinion. It’s fine but not a selling point at 4cmc.

Don't you have another infinite line with quirion ranger, phyrexian dreadnaught, selvala, and wirewood symbiote?
January 3, 2020 10:14 a.m.
asm could you remind me why it is beneficial to run fetch lands in a mono-colored deck?

^Shuffle effects for sylvan library is a good enough reason for fetches on it's own imo
January 3, 2020 3:26 p.m.
More or less just for sylvan library at this point, but originally it was for sensei’s top as well.
akiva.garfield96 No, that loop doesn’t go infinite.

Hello, may I ask why Cloudstone Curio went out? In the update note there was no explanation for that. Did something else become better, or was it just not necessary?
March 4, 2020 7:13 a.m.
Ranavolio Just not necessary. New cards got printed that are more important to the deck (Draw spells and tutors like Return of the Wildspeaker and Finale of Devastation) so Curio had to go. Back when this deck was created and green could use more gas, curio was the next best option. Curio is still an excellent combo piece, but those tend to be less important than the enablers (draw/tutor).

I think the major problem with Wicked Wolf is that it doesn't hit Linvala, Keeper of Silence which you're probably likely to see in many variations of the metapods
March 7, 2020 7:37 a.m.
PapaBear97 Definitely. I think it’s perfectly fine to run though if you don’t have to deal with Linvalas in your playgroup. I would go with Somberwald Stag as a general option, but there are several other fight creatures you can consider based on the typical threats you see.

So how does one who is new to Cedh understand what is flex or not? And how to make edits. I really enjoy this primer but I have no idea what I’m doing

I took out karametras acolyte for song of the dryad, kenriths transformation for natural state and took out a Forest for blossoming defense. And rec safe for dryad arbor. Opinions?
March 7, 2020 10:24 p.m.
Toothless1999 Fortunately for you, I already tagged which cards I consider flex. All you have to do is change the Grouping to Custom and it will group the cards be Core and Flex.
The swaps are fine; it just depends on what cards you care about dealing with in your meta.

2 mana is too expensive for what's relatively limited selection. Only hitting creatures or lands is a very low chance to hit an untapper, and it misses on all of the good gas spells. I don't see it being good enough. Casting it for free on your first turn is OK but fairly marginal.
