A grow deck is when you literally "grow" a threat that will close the game fairly quickly, while keeping pace with you opponent with counterspells such as Mana Leak while protecting and "growing" your finisher. This deck takes advantage of Stubborn Denial's cheap cost while being used as a solid counterspell, which can be used to protect your creature threat or lock out a desperate opponent of a vital play.
