I am not sure why now I had said you'd be able to block after his attacks. You are right, he is a bit slow and by himself doesn't win games. Even just discussing it here has helped with my deck thanks!

+1 I love mardu and can only hope a deck like this ends up tier 1. Would you ever consider Sorin, Solemn Visitor ? I'm not certain how relevant he will be in standard, but the pump and life link could be good.

September 14, 2014 1:17 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #3

@ EKGwins: Butcher of the Horde > Sorin, Solemn Visitor . Reasons? Butcher has evasion, can attack the moment he comes out, gains me life and can block and swing every turn. He puts the opponent on a 3 turn clock and generally means I win the game the moment he comes out. Sorin doesn't win games, as his token producer is a -2.

Haha sorry didn't mean to stop by and leave so quickly before. I do really like the deck! I feel like some people are so caught up in the hype of other color combos that they fail to see just how powerful EVERY clan will be. I think this is a good example of a dangerous Mardu deck to face. Even better is the use of the Warrior tribal, which I love. (I have a thing for unique brews, in case you haven't noticed).

I haven't had the chance to test at all with the deck but based on CMCs and card type I'd say going down to 2 Raider's Spoils in place of either a third Goblin Rabblemaster or Butcher of the Horde feels right to me. Thoughts?

~-~-~-~-~-~

Also, if you wouldn't mind doing so..wanna see my new brew? I've been working on a Temur deck and took a cool turn with it near the end that has really upped its strength. I'd love an opinion. Temur Control

+1 given, of course!

Femme_Fatale I understand that Butcher of the Horde is very valuable, I think Sorin would compete more against Raider's Spoils , but the card draw might be too good.

Femme_Fatale says... #6

Hmm, you are quite right about that swap there Spootyone. I'll do a swap now.

Also, I'm buying this deck for $220 ... good price?

September 14, 2014 2:16 p.m.

Spootyone says... #7

Considering the average price according to TO is over 300? I'd say absolutely. That's what's great about building off the wall brews! You can to use the random cheap cards no one is looking at haha.

September 14, 2014 2:20 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #8

Uh, ignore that price Spootyone. That's the legacy version of Bloodstained Mire . The REAL price of it is actually $13. So chop about $50. Huh. Still in the ranks of $30!

September 14, 2014 2:30 p.m.

Spootyone says... #9

Ah. Not that it's a huge deal, but it would be awesome if that could be adjusted lol. That's still good though! And since you plan on going IRL competitive with the build I encourage it :) I wish I could go to tournaments lol. We need to have a TO team. We can wear our ornithopter shirts and become famous. I'll put my millions of dollars of MTG money into a yacht that can double as a game store.

I'll be sure to wear our signature t-shirt. I really like how it looks and how soft it is, then again, what doesn't look good on boobs?

against: Anger of the Gods ?

September 14, 2014 4:43 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #12

Not that big of a deal tedyo. Anger of the Gods doesn't kill Purphoros, God of the Forge nor Butcher of the Horde . I have Chief of the Scale to help get my non-token creatures above 4 toughness to help evade it, and it doesn't get rid of Mardu Ascendancy , which is my main token producer. Beyond that I do have 6 instances of discard, so I can use them heavily if I suspect wraths of any kind.

Ohthenoises says... #13

One thing. You mention that you don't want to add more rabblemasters and I'm kind of questioning your logic on that.

Before I start any comments have you seen the Rabble Red deck that's gained a ton of popularity lately?

September 14, 2014 5:14 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #14

On the Anger of the Gods topic: Mardu Ascendancy is nearly a direct counter to it. Also, if you sacrifice Bloodsoaked Champion before the Anger resolves he won't exile.

I just looked at it now and I want to make a point, that deck will be rotating out. Most of that deck is built on return to ravnica cards, and I don't think it will be supported enough in theros KTK. In examining Goblin Rabblemaster through playtests, rabble just doesn't provide as much impact as others believe it should. No haste or first strike means that it is really easily blocked and killed even with Chief of the Scale . While the meta isn't defined for ktk and the eventual creature base may mean it is more of an include, I just don't see why I should have it as a 3 of when so many of my cards are much more better.

September 14, 2014 5:29 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #16

I CAN say however, that the pure aggro version of this deck I'm building will include rabble at three. I'm unsure of which I like more.

Balbaar says... #17

i think i would cut one Mardu Ascendancy and at a thoughtseize i am not gonna force you to play Soldier of the Pantheon but the lifegain can be relevant and will be more relevant after rotation because you will take a lot of damage from your lands when trying to be on curve with an aggresive deck but its up to you if you think the lifegain from Butcher of the Horde is enough for the deck

In General i would take out the Raider's Spoils entirely maybe consider some more removal instead like Stoke the Flames which will work really well with all the tokens

September 14, 2014 5:54 p.m.

Balbaar says... #18

Oh and i totally forgot Utter End for the more midrange kind of strategy

September 14, 2014 5:59 p.m.

DaigarStrasis says... #19

Obelisk of Urd ? name warrior obviously, you are getting enough creatures out to convoke it

September 14, 2014 6:15 p.m.

DaigarStrasis says... #20

Also in regards to your comment about aggro being or will be non-existent in standard, you are dead wrong. Mono Red isn't losing enough creatures and there are others that will fill the void of what is rotating out, and mono black aggro didn't really lose anything, but gained several potential staples in the archetype.

September 14, 2014 6:19 p.m.

TheWhiteFang says... #21

I think maybe hammer of purphoros could be a fit if you were maybe willing to take out a thoughtseize and a launch the fleet to make your creatures have haste and create more tokens for butcher of the horde.

September 14, 2014 6:20 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #22

I already got Crackling Doom in the side Balbaar, I don't think I need 11 instances of removal. And Utter End is really slow when I already got the necessary answers for everything.

I like Obelisk of Urd , DaigarStrasis. I will try it out. As for the aggro, Red aggro has all their cards in RTR, so it is practically defunct now. And there hardly anything in black that can make mono black aggro go any further. I'm looking at the entire KTK set, and there is like, nothing in mono colours that can make aggro worthwhile. I can however make this mardu deck aggro based, which is what I'm doing as a side test with midrange build sideboard.

Hammer of Purphoros is really lack-luster TheWhiteFang. A three mana haste grant isn't that good especially considering how easy it is to remove. It also doesn't apply to most of my tokens, as they enter the battlefield attacking, or with haste.

TheGreatLiar says... #23

I really don't think Launch the Fleet works here. It's a good and undervalued card, but in this case, I think 3x Foundry Street Denizen just does so much more work. The synergy with Mardu Ascendancy and Goblin Rabblemaster is crazy good. And he's also another warrior.
