Encase in Ice seems better than wound. Wound's only big advantage is that it hits caryatids.

Wound is there to get around hexproof. It hits Dragonlord Ojutai, Fleecemane Lion, in addition to the other white threats. Red stuff I can hit with Downfall no problem. That said, I like the idea of Encase in Ice for Stormbreath or the inevitable Atarka decks that crop up, so I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Extremely strong deck. IMO, You need 2-3 torrent elemental in the 75 (side or main, your choice) it has really good match ups against most decks, the only probably with it I've found is there is a lot of fliers out at the moment. Sarkhan the unbroken is a huge problem unless you know its coming and save 3 mana and a hero's. Torrent can block his token (and the majority of dragons for that matter) even if it cant kill it to stop you from dying before you get 2 x gurmag or tasigur .etc.

Flying is definitely going to be a problem for this deck. Stuck 3 in the side, as I think Risen Executioner is either going to go into the mainboard or get cut.

mhmm, im also running 3 in the side. Played few flying heavy decks lost game 1, won game 2 and 3 like...4 times :)

Good to know. What are your thoughts on Master of the Feast? Someone pointed him out to me this week, and he seems like a very good inclusion.

absolutely run Master of the Feast, Im not sure what you would want to take out... but the extra draw on your turn will fuel your discard abilities, especially mid to late game when your opponent is top decking (I built a deck like this back around when M15 dropped, and the deck really stalls out once your opponent has no hand). plus he is just a beast of a turn 3 play.

my other recommendation would be to look at Liliana Vess, as a free discard each turn is really nice, plus the ability to call cards to the top of the deck becomes a big thing when you need that specific draw next turn.

You have so much delve elsewhere that Empty the Pits won't be effective. Consider removing it and instead running a dragon finisher, probably one of the Silumgars

Master of the Feast is extremely good if you feel like you want more discards for waste not, but your win con (or easiest win con) is actually Gurmag Angler so you could run master of the feast, but only if your willing for waste not to become the main wincon, i would however agree with lemminglama (sorry dont know how to tag people) Empty the Pits should only really be run if you have master of the feast, because 90% of the time, you'll only be getiing 3 or 4 zombies out of it, which you can do with 1 dark bribe for significantly less. Another point to make would be master of the feast is very bad vs control, seen as you basically let them draw into all their counters spells/Removal .etc. as well as giving them delves, you can side it out game 2 anyway though

The Dragonlord Silumgar is actually not a bad addition, i did try it out, its actually very good vs Sarkhan Unbroken /Temur Dragons. he can take a hit from most of their dragons, as well as steal their Stormbreath Dragon .etc. which has actually let me beat temur before. I wouldnt bother with Silumgar, the Drifting Death He's a hardcore late game card, and he'll be your sole dragon unless you run both version, because of legendary clause, You'll only really be destroying Elvish Mystic Rattleclaw Mysticand by the time you can summon him, its already too late for that to matter that much. He can destroy stormbreath if they're stupid enough to block with it, but 90% if the time they wont

NoxRhys, thanks so much for the input, I really appreciate it. I actually picked up a couple Dragonlords last week in case they end up being a good addition, and so I'll probably end up running them in place of Torrent Elemental in the side, as I'm still missing a couple of those.

This deck is capable of doing some seriously unreasonable things on unreasonable turns. It's a blast to play. However after you've dispatched your opponent's hand with your discard spells, or they've cast everything and are top decking, you have a ton of dead cards in your deck.

I think a great answer to this is Master of the Feast. It's a huge threat that puts a lot of pressure on your opponent. Evasive, dodges the overplayed roast(unlike the angler) and fuels your opponents hand for your discard spells.

I think master is a must include over the angler. At least give it some testing for yourself.

Honestly, I think you have a few too many delve cards... I would consider getting rid of Gurmag Angler and adding Silumgar, the Drifting Death or dashing in some red (you already have the fetch lands I see) for Dragonlord Kolaghan. He can seriously screw with people once he hits the field in a control deck...

April 12, 2015 12:06 a.m.

This surprised me a lot, but too much delve has not been a problem I encountered. Between tons of fetches and spells that pitch things into my graveyard, I can reliably delve three cards in a turn mid-game. I like both of those dragons in a pure control deck, but this actually isn't control. It's "wreck your hand and give me value", so closer to combo or high-synergy. Neither has delve, which is absolutely crucial to creatures that I run in the deck. Essentially, all the stuff I'm doing with spells means that I have little mana to spare on creatures, and keeping delve guys in the board is pretty necessary. I appreciate the feedback though, and I definitely need some combination of fatty flyers in the sideboard to handle certain matchups. I'll play with a couple combinations in the coming weeks, and see what shakes out.

Oh wow.. Waste Not is still standard legal? Shows how much I keep up with standard.

Thanx for clearing that up dude. I got no suggestions, but def +1. Discard in standard has to be mean.

What do you think about adding Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in there? It could be pretty useful to steal your opponent's creatures and mill them at the same time. The exiling effect is also helpful against other delve decks.

April 13, 2015 4:25 p.m.

I'm definitely curious about Ashiok. He might be a cool addition. If I can pick up one or two, I'll try him out. Thanks for the suggest :)

I do love the deck, but I feel like there's far too much delve competition going on for too many of your serious threats.

my suggestion would be replacing all 4 Treasure Cruises with Divination or a mix of that and Jace's Ingenuity.

Delving in order to draw cards you intend to delve as well is really iffy in my opinion.

I think the deck setup and make-up as far as draw/threats/engines is good though. Just specific card choice may be slightly detrimental.

April 13, 2015 6:43 p.m.

Delve surprisingly hasn't been an issue so far. To be fair, I've only playtested for a couple matches, so far my cards haven't stepped on each other too much as long as I play smart. That said, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it in the coming weeks, and if I do notice it slipping, I'll probably switch to Divination.

April 13, 2015 6:48 p.m.

Master of the Feast, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, Dig Through Time, Crux of Fate (maybe), Risen Executioner. Those are some suggestions. Idk if you will run into Esper Control, but Virulent Plague could ruin your day.

April 14, 2015 9:14 a.m.

Ashiok is on my maybeboard if I pick up a couple. Crux of Fate is going into the side. Played with Risen Executioner, and the fact that he doesn't block is really detrimental actually. Master of the Feast is going in as soon as I get a couple. As for Virulent Plague, my only real answer is Despise and countermagic, or remove their threats so that I don't need tokens. Definitely ideas to consider though, thanks for the feedback.

April 15, 2015 1:14 p.m.

I know it isn't that flashy of a card, but that what kind of makes it genius; Mind Rot can act be used instead of the 4x Dark Deal. Still gets rid of hand advantage but screws up your playing less.

Also, Master of the Feast is the perfect card for this deck. Mostly because there are no instant speed discard abilities in standard right now (at least to my knowledge), and so once your opponent has no hand, you have to make them draw in order to make them discard. This makes the 5/5 flyer for 3cmc a boss.

April 19, 2015 3:20 p.m.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's time I definitely picked up a couple. Too many good points to ignore.
