After dabbling with the deck for two and a half weeks I decided to test it out in Indianapolis at the Star City Games Standard event. After 10 rounds of Swiss I finished the event with 4 wins, 5 loses, and 1 draw. This being my first major event I was extremely pleased with the results.
Round 1: Played against Jund. 2 and 1. Round 2: Played against Mono Black. 0 and 2.
Round 3: Played against R/W Burn. 1 and 2. Round 4: Played against Mono Black Aggro. 2 and 0. Round 5: Played against U/W Control. 0 and 2. Round 6: Played against Red Deck Wins. 2 and 0 or 1.
Round 7: Played against Naya. 0 and 2. Round 8: Played against Grixis. 1 and 1.
Round 9: Played against U/W Countrol. 0 and 2. Round 10: Played against Grixis. 2 and 0.
Round 3 and 7 are the only two matches that I made mistakes in. I potentially could have won Round 3 while in Round 7 would have gone into a 3rd game. The control matches were the most difficult ones to gain any footing in. I underestimated Supreme Verdict in both Rounds 5 and 9 but it is because of these two matches did I alter the mainboard and sideboard. I am currently running two less Archetype of Endurance, every match I won was because of this card and I still see potential in it. Added two Stormbreath Dragons to the mainboard for hasty threats. It is important to note that I added one Mana Conflunce opposed to any Stomping grounds. I did this to help with the curve Stormbreath Dragon presents to the deck and to help with casting Golgari Charm. Lastly in the Sideboard I removed Whims of the Fates and added one more Mistcutter Hydra. I hope to attend Grand Prix Chicago next and play at the two FNMs at my local game store in between to test out the modifications made to the deck.
