psionictemplar, and I heart-throbbingly hope it's a warhammer reference now that I think about it, I have so much to say!

  1. Thank you so much for all of this incredible feedback- I love to make sure that I lead and end interactions with gratitude. Your interactions just through the few times I've recognized your comments (there's a few now that I think about it) are always so thoughtful. I appreciate the care and insight with generous consideration for poise and respect to one another. You're a class act for that alone!

  2. Thank you so much for the insight with regards to Cascade- as I have stated in the description, it is one of my weakest deck-styles that I've tried. Storm and Cascade are just hard for me sometimes. This care and response has given me some insight I had not considered for deck construction, and I'm very grateful for that level of knowledge and education. So this'll be the first blurb where I address your recommendations; I completely and whole-heartedly agree that I will be adjusting not only the mana base to include at least one Hallowed Fountainfoil, but also to adjust some other pieces of my build. I am intent on creating another 100% competitive list.

  3. Bloodbraid Marauder is a cool card that I think helped me chain downwards and not lack in value, however I agree with your commentary that my list is sufficiently struggling to produce cards in grave, unless I shift my list and replace some pieces. I'm not sure how to precisely replace what Temur Devotee provides through Arena of Glory; spend from the Arena, cast Temur Devotee and immediately use the other from Arena to use the filter ability, effectively getting the color of mana that you wanted in the first place. Admittedly super bad when you say it out loud, and when you see it in function? It's.. not awful. But.. it's not really doing the most, as you've described.. I need to maximize the output. Normally that kind of concept is finely tuned and drilled into my brain, but with cascade for some reason I tend to be so laise-faire. Thank you for calling me out on that! I appreciate anyone who can challenge my pre-conceived notions about the best way to do something.

  4. Force of Negation was in fact the card I should have chosen.. no discussion there, I was out of practice on that. Thanks for the tip!

  5. I don't really have definitive promised changes for what I'll do, but the update tab is about to get thicc. We'll talk soon, I'm sure!

In my best Kaiba impression- you're a third rate duelist using a FOURTH rate deck! it's not bad, I'm just joking. I like what you have here! If you want to push into bracket 4 territory I recommend the following:

.. all of these to get your draws and hand in a row. I see you've already taken up Three Visits so just increase your count of all those spells like Thirsting Roots and even Farseek to capitalize on that ramp capability. The newly released Temur Devotee is a nice committed mana-fixer.

Otherwise, consider lower cost removal spells such as Pongify and Rapid Hybridization, even Swan Song and Strix Serenade. The most efficient way to break into the higher bracket is to do things at their most efficient capability. In this case, you'll have tons of high cost dragons. Right? So use a formula. turn 1 dork, turn 2 ramp, etc., etc. whatever works for your playstyle. Just have one in mind!

The biggest issue your deck has is that you have next to NO one drop spells. Minion of the Mighty exists and so does Elvish Mystic, and Llanowar Elves. You absolutely need to make use of your first turn beyond just putting down a land and passing.

And if you are intent on holding up that one mana on your first and doing a land down, go - you HAVE to increase the number of instants you leave yourself access to. 6 simply is nowhere near enough. Arguably, more than 2 per hand is preferred. Stuff like Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are so popular and effective because they can be used on that first turn. I mean, you might be a card down for it.. but it'd be better than sitting on your hands for the first turn.

I would recommend using that newly printed red dork that was at 2 mana, because I like your 2 mana package in green colors. The hard issue after wards is probably how much has to happen at 3 mana rather than happening at one mana. Consider stuff like Burgeoning, Exploration.

All of this to say I hope your deck building process is easier with the feedback, please feel free to reach out if you have questions- I happen to really like what you've acquired here and want to see you succeed. Good luck, and +1!

psionictemplar thanks for the feedback, but I have questions that maybe you could help me with:

  • Ardent Plea does lack a white-generating land for hard casting, yes, and personally it's got just enough presence that would justify Solitude. I understand why you point this out as a fundamental issue but I should at no point be hard-casting Ardent Plea.

  • I created my deck like this metaphor: as a child, I liked sitting at the top of the stairs and scooting my butt down each step. And at each step, the scooting carried momentum from the previous scooting, eventually leading me to just be sliding down the stairs. This deck functions similarly, where each step and each turn fundamentally tries to carry away the next turn or spell cast into the next, and so on and so forth.

  • I think I understand what the Creative Outburst and Magma Opus are meant to provide back to the deck, however.. it's trading two Mana and discarding itself for favor of only getting one mana back- if I'm not mistaken, to me that reads as mana-fixing and I think I do a good job of that with Temur Devotee and surprisingly well paired with Arena of Glory.

  • I appreciate the commentary and it reveals that Cascade concepts aren't really breaking away from tier 2 anytime soon. I would really appreciate any further insight you could provide since Cascade type decks are not my strongest builds. Storm and Cascade are not easy mechanics to use or work with, so I'll take all the discussion I can get regarding how to do it better or fine tune.

Thanks again for the commentary and I look forward to discussing this further!
