Gideon's Resolve

Enchantment

When Gideon's Resolve enters the battlefield, you may search your library and/or graveyard for a card named Gideon, Martial Paragon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you search your library this way, shuffle it.

Creatures you control get +1/+1.

Thanks for the suggestions Braingamer! I think you're definitely right that Gideon's Resolve isn't worth keeping in. Sanctum Seeker has been basically gold, especially for getting the turn 4 or 5 win, so I will probably keep those in. I might be taking out Bishop of the Bloodstained and Call to the Feast to lower the general CMC of the deck, and will consider adding Gifted Aetherborn and Cartouche of Solidarity!

Okay if you're going for an aggressive strategy I would say cut Call to the Feast and Queen's Commission for 4 Gifted Aetherborn. Also if you're going to have Trial of Solidarity then I would say add Cartouche of Solidarity and Cartouche of Ambition just so you get the effect continuously. also Vampire's Zeal and Supernatural Stamina main board. Also Gideon's Resolve is kinda bad if your aggro, it's a waste of a turn 5 play because all it does it give your creatures +1/+1 along with tutor an okay planeswalker. Also maybe only 2 Sanctum Seeker it's cmc is kinda high if your aggro. Also Yahenni is a mainboard if your aggro.

My question is: why the Gideon's Resolve? Wouldn't it be better to get something else? Anything? Even just card-draw, like Chart a Course or one-sided removal like Dusk / Dawn, or perhaps removal on a body that can potentially come back doubled with Anointed Procession: Angel of Sanctions.

You could try putting Gideon, Martial Paragon in the deck. His +2 ability untaps all creatures you control and gives them +1/+1 until end of turn. Sparring Mummy is also great for untapping creatures mid-late game. If you decide to add Gideon, Martial Paragon to the deck, you should consider adding Gideon's Resolve to search for him and give your creatures +1/+1. I run a R/W exert burn deck that is similar to this. If you want more ideas, suggestions or help with anything MTG related just msg me and I'll see if I can help. Here's a link to my R/W Exert/untap/burn deck -

I'd cut Djeru, With Eyes Open for a more low to the ground creature like Oketra's Avenger and/or Steward of Solidarity. Cutting Djeru's Resolve might help as well seeing as your creatures is looking to be aggressive. If Trueheart Duelist is under performing, you can cut it for more exert creatures or more Oketra's Monument. Gideon's Resolve might be too janky for an aggressive list like this, Dauntless Aven could also work as an untapper and an evasive threat. Just a few suggestions, hope these help.

Hello. I don't know why I'm looking at the support decks first, but I guess I am. Personally, I don't think that Gideon is meant for a life-gain support theme. I think he's more meant for Soldiers like he was used for originally. Personally, I would make a white weenie build out of him with Raise the Alarm, Captain of the Watch and Sun Titan, so essentially white soldiers. With a few changes to the Jace deck, Gideon's Avenger could also synergize really well between the two decks.

If you decided to stick with the life-gain support deck for Gideon, I might recommend another copy or two of Call the Gatewatch and/or Gideon's Resolve to make sure you have access to one of planeswalkers.

Honestly, I think that making an Ajani deck with Ajani Goldmane and Ajani, Valiant Protector would be a better support deck for life-gain and pumping up creatures. But, that's just my view.

OminousRex quite enjoyed checking this deck. I feel it has a similar vibe to my own R/W: Pure Amonkhet R/W SB Gideon.

If you're looking for more haste options; I'd check out Cartouche of Zeal. With its low cost I often pair it with Gust Walker or Glory-Bound Initiate. Both Cartouche and Gust Walker are commons as well.

Looking for weak-links I'd say Aethersphere Harvester while flexible loses purpose when you don't really have any energy cards to back it up. Nef-Crop Entangler is a viable option if you're looking for a common red hitter; likewise if you're looking for maybe a surprise spell, the uncommon Onward / Victory is a fun play of mine, and a way to quickly hit opponents and have a doublestrike spell sitting in the grave when you need it.

Lastly if you pick up a Gideon Starter-Deck; it comes with Gideon, Martial Paragon as well as two Gideon's Resolve which are late game savers when it comes to having a deck with lower toughness creatures. Paragon can untap exerted creatures or pump them for additional power. Plus if you decide to run it with your Gideon of the Trials; the Emblem effect from Trials is still valid with Marshal Paragon on the field.
