Even though we already know this is this artwork and discussion has already happened, i still must say i am completely in love with this art.

Seriously. I need a Fathead poster of this.

OHHHHHH, Well awesome, he looks totally sick.

let's speculate on the card then.

2RG - indestructible 6/6, Whenever you tap a land for mana deal 1 damage to target opponent.

January 15, 2014 6:27 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #7

@Schuesseled: That sounds a tad bit broken as all fuck. Most likely it will be a static ability like Mogis and Ephara rather than a triggered or activated ability. I do agree with the 2RG 6/6 part though, that sounds about right.

January 15, 2014 6:46 p.m.

AussieBloke says... #8

Isn't he only a RG to cast? I can already seen now... Turn 1 elvish mystic, turn two, burningtree, burningtree, Xenagos, dude then has enough devotionto attack on turn three. fuck.

I wasn't impressed at first, then I thought of the sizeable creatures R/G can currently ramp into play.

Polukranos, World Eater becomes 10/10, or a lot bigger when Monstrous.
Stormbreath Dragon becomes 8/8, or 14/14 when Monstrous.
Arbor Colossus becomes 12/12, or 18/18 when Monstrous.
...all of which can come out quite fast in an R/G Devotion deck.

Plus you can't overlook the fact that it provides haste. Casting a Polukranos, World Eater is one thing... casting it, and swinging with it as a 10/10 on the same turn brings it to a whole new level.

January 15, 2014 9:36 p.m.

Apoptosis says... #14

All I can say is if you're playing against R/G, you better have spot removal at instant speed ready. Pretty damn impressive.

Worldspine Wurm s best friend. It's only a 30/30.

DaShPrime says... #16

With the new Xenagos god, Scorchwalker suddenly seems ridiculously overpowered. Chaos Imps seems like a pretty decent finisher, especially since it curves right after the new Xenagos. 14/13 flying, trample, haste seems like a pretty good deal.

Turn 1: Forest, Elvish Mystic
Turn 2: Mountain, Zhur-Taa Druid , Elvish Mystic
Turn 3: Mountain, Xenagos, Rakdos Cackler unleashed, swing for 4, take 1 from Druid.
Turn 4: Mountain, Chaos Imps , bloodrush Rubblebelt Maaka , swing with a 17/16 flying, trample, haste creature. And a 2/2 Cackler. And take 1 from Druid.

That's 25 damage in 4 turns, and if you're on the play it comes before the inevitable Supreme Verdict .

January 16, 2014 2:44 a.m.

Considering how crappy the other 2-color Gods are (from a non-EDH perspective), he is ridiculously OP. Talk about a Control deck's worst nightmare. GR ramp decks are going to abuse the hell out of this card, especially when you consider that it takes a mere 2 Burning-Tree Emissary to turn him on and they have fatties as it is.

Here's some interesting ideas for the ramp-tastic builds: Giant Adephage . Hell, Borborygmos Enraged or Skarrg Goliath .

January 16, 2014 4:18 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #18

Well it requires two BTE's and a Elvish Mystic.

Anyway here's my christmas wonderland:

Turn 1: Overgrown Tomb , Elvish Mystic

Turn 2: Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx , Burning-Tree Emissary , Burning-Tree Emissary , ramp into Ogre Battledriver .

Turn 3: xenagos, god of revels, and another Elvish Mystic or bte or whatever, swing for 8+6+2+2+1+3 = 22

The ogre works well, acting as a second haste enabler and booster of damage

January 16, 2014 8:50 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #19

Bought two of them for just under 20 quid.

January 16, 2014 8:51 a.m.

Schuesseled: Are you sure that Burning-Tree Emissary doesn't count as 4 Devotion for Green and Red? I'm sure we'll get updated rulings once it BotG comes out, but I haven't seen anything confirming that.

Anyways, the "whatever" on turn 3 should be Wild Beastmaster :)

"Hybrid mana symbols such as White or Blue Mana count toward both their colors but aren't counted twice."

source

They count as 1 devotion each, so it's 2 to either GG, GR, or RR.

January 16, 2014 9:16 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #22

Except you'd be hard pressed to afford it, but yeah that would work.

And no BTE's will only count towards devotion once. There was a discussion on it somewhere, can't remember where exactly. Just trust me.

The god brings in two devotion itself, so you only need five more between your other creatures, which isn't hard.

January 16, 2014 9:17 a.m.

gufymike says... #23

Oh, ftr, BTE and say Nylea, God of the Hunt and Purphoros, God of the Forge on the field, counts as GG for Nylea and RR for purphorus.

Each God counts their devotion individually, so you can mix up the hybrid mana differently for each God.

Aha thanks for that. I was wondering since BTE and Boros Reckoner are broken enough as it is.

Trilient says... #26

I already play gruul devotion, I was thinking about switching to Jund. But now that I see Xenagos, I will stick to gruul for now and see how he plays out. Going to work on a proxy of him later.

beakedbard says... #27

Has it been stated anywhere if Xenagos (god) can be played at the same time as Xenagos (planeswalker) or does the legend rule apply with that? It doesn't seem to do that with Karn and Venser but these two Xenagos's are printed in the same set.

January 16, 2014 9:40 a.m.

Schuesseled says... #28

Yes you can have both iterations of xenagos in play at once.

January 16, 2014 9:41 a.m.

gufymike says... #29

The planeswalker uniqueness rule applies to the planeswalker stype.

"306.4. If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "planeswalker uniqueness rule." See rule 704."

source

The legend rule applies to the cards name.

704.5k If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule".

source

Neither of these cards match on either the name or the type line, This is why they both can be played together.

Nah use Ogre Battledriver in combo with ol' xenagos, turn every Elvish Mystic into a 6/4 with haste.

Won the first auction of 4x and paid $12.50 a piece.

January 16, 2014 10:01 a.m.

SCG is sure taking a long time to put them up for pre sale. They must really be testing him out to determine their value or something.

January 16, 2014 10:05 a.m.

Found someone selling them cheaply via buy it now on ebay got two at $14 or 20 pounds (in proper money).

12.50! You lucky dog.

January 16, 2014 10:05 a.m.

I was willing to go $15 and it stuck at $50.

Hybrid mana symbols, monocolored hybrid mana symbols, and Phyrexian mana symbols do count toward your devotion to their color(s). A permanent that costs (G/R) (G/R) adds two to your devotion to red And two to your devotion to green.

January 19, 2014 4:26 p.m.

zandl says... #37

However, you have to choose which Devotion you're adding to with a Hybrid cost. Burning-Tree Emissary only gives Xenagos, God of Revels 2 Devotion.

mailxsz says... #40

This is what is said in the rule. A permanent that costs "Burning-Tree Mana" adds two to your devotion to red and two to your devotion to green. It's not "or"

January 24, 2014 10:09 a.m.

Correct, but it only adds two to your Devotion to Red and Green.

Schuesseled says... #42

Regardless:

http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/faq/bng

From the rules:

"Your devotion to two colors is equal to the number of mana symbols that are the first color, the second color, or both colors among the mana costs of permanents you control. Specifically, a hybrid mana symbol counts only once toward your devotion to its two colors. For example, if the only nonland permanents you control are Xenagos, God of Revels and Rubblebelt Raiders (whose mana cost is 1 ManaRed or Green ManaRed or Green ManaRed or Green Mana), your devotion to red and green is five."
