HELP: Need to Retool My EDH Deck

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Feb. 10, 2016, 12:47 a.m. by Corigan

I am new to EDH and have mostly played Modern Before.

I have started playing EDH with 3 other of my friends, but I need help. The EDH deck I made makes everyone hate me and gun only for me knocking me out pretty fast. Which isn't fun when playing with your friends.

I am looking for help as too what I can retool this deck to to not be as annoying and to be more "fair"

My Deck is very simular and for all intents and purposes a mirror to this deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/can-you-feel-the-ground-shake/

Can anyone give me thoughts on a new commander and set up where I can use most of the cards from this, that is less annoying to others?

Thanks for any help.

Corigan,
You can link to MrHighscore's deck like this

[[deck:can-you-feel-the-ground-shake]]
Can you feel the ground shake?

For future ref, there's a bunch of other Formatting tips linked at the bottom of most pages on T/O

It looks like to be some sort of tokens/combo deck. If you know the "jist" of EDH, I would recommend branching out into maybe 2 colors. You will have more card choices and more synergies. A red/white (boros) beat down deck that goes wide with tokens can be an option and you may be able to use Aurelia, the Warleader as a decent general to this strategy and cards like Assemble the Legion. White brings the ability to utilize better removal (board wipes: Wrath of God, Day of Judgment, etc...; spot removal: Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, Revoke Existence, Return to Dust, Council's Judgment, etc...) and anthem effects (Honor the Pure, Dictate of Heliod, Marshal's Anthem, Spear of Heliod, etc...) and other great creatures that can help you go wide such as Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Darien, King of Kjeldor, Evangel of Heliod, Heliod, God of the Sun, Iroas, God of Victory, etc... And the addition of white brings great planeswalkers: Elspeth, Knight-Errant, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Ajani Vengeant, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, etc...

Corigan,
To answer your actual question though ...

I'd go Goblin tribal, with either Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker (Tier 3) or Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician (Tier 4) at the helm. Krenko, Mob Boss is an option, but he's another Tier 2 like Purphoros, so your friends will probably not appreciate him much either :-)

I can never suggest weakening a deck for others. Full optimization is best and gives you a deck to play at your LGS.

What would be really awesome is if you were to build another deck specifically to play with them. I'm not sure if you share my thoughts but a Phelddagrif deck that has legitimate Win Conditions would be hilarious. Go from really competitive to Group Hug competitive. Allow everyone to think you're helping them right up until you win.

Having someone who play purpherous in my playgroup, I can only say that he's a commander that just calls for hate. He's really annoying to play against and while he might be really optimal for play, he doesn't make a game fun. If you want to retool the deck, I'd suggest using a different commander. The best bet would be to, like someone already mentioned, go goblin tribal. This wouldn't draw as much hate while it might be just as viable.

Corigan,
Turns out there are a bunch of potential Goblin tribal options. I had no idea there were so many!
