Basically play a one-drop, aim for Retribution of the Ancients, always keep a black mana open, and from then on play all the creatures, and remove all the tokens to deal creature damage (targeting them however you wish, even on your own creatures should the need arise). Basically everything is "Do Not Regenerate - Removal" proof. But "Hey!" you shout, "Why play 4x Retributions? Once in-game, the rest are useless!"

Sneaky late-game use of Smallpox requires a sacrificial hand-card, which the further Retribution's serve as.

  • Win-Con is to mass destroy all blockers with a combination of Hex Parasite , Black Sun's Zenith and Retribution of the Ancients, and then attack directly with all creatures for sheer overwhelming force.

  • Retribution of the Ancients also allows for instant speed creature removal against creature-reliant combo decks, gives a useful match-up against Junk/Jund Midrange for bigger foes.

  • Demonlord of Ashmouth is a nice fattie against larger foes, and keeps coming back within the round to boot if you need him to defend, along with pump-resetting one of your creatures.

  • Throw a Black Sun's Zenith out there for mass removal in late game; it can reset or completely mass-pump your creatures.

  • Abrupt Decay for specific instant speed removal of counter-permanents, Thoughtseize for early game discard. Even Hex Parasite has its uses against Planeswalkers, not to mention being cheap as chips and colorless, despite its lack of the Undying trait.

This deck might have a little difficulty against ramp decks that bring more creatures out quickly, but Black Sun's Zenith takes care of that problem if you can hold out until round 5.

SIDEBOARD

  • Whip of Erebos, Bubbling Cauldron or Kitchen Finks for general lifegain. (Hex Parasite + Kitchen Finks is a nice combo because it removes even the -1,-1)

  • Drown in Sorrow is chucked in once just for cheap mass removal and pump-resetting of your creatures. The Scry 1 doesn't hurt either.

  • Dark Prophecy is there for a bit of draw-engine if you can afford the extra life-loss.

  • Dismember is also a fun one-off goodstuff removal against opponent fatties.

  • Eternal Witness is a bit of an odd-ball. She really is only there to trade back something from your graveyard, and then can be used as a Smallpox sacrifice. (Not that this is a problem what with everything else having Undying.)
