I love it! Really makes me wanna build something similar.

Though I'm not a huge fan of Emberwilde Augur, since it can't die to other sac effects in order to deal damage.

Also, have you tried Skirk Prospector? Being able to sacrifice things to pay for the mana cost of a Grenade when you're tapped out seems like it would come in handy pretty often.

ellie-is- Perfect! Thanks! TBH, the Augurs were a shove-in after the rebuild, 'cause I wasn't sure what else to place in!

Thanks for the update, love!

SpaceSpiff20- thanks! May only include 2-3 as they don't produce red mana on their own. Great suggestion! And thanks for the upvote!

Ohh I love this deck! Plus 1 for meee!

Now, I have no idea how to sqeez it in, but did you ever considered Boggart Shenanigans whit your sac outlets and Goblin Arsonist who knows? Eh?

November 25, 2018 7:39 p.m.

Oh, before I forget about it, why not that one Risk Factor it cost the same of Browbeat and do one less damage, but that jump start ability tho!

Scion of Primal Hunter- While I agree Risk Factor is better than Browbeat, I am aiming for a more budget-friendly build that anyone can pickup and win with on a fairly consistent basis.

That being said, I like Boggart Shenanigans, as it is on the opposite end of Impact Tremors. I'll take out Hordeling Outburst, because sometimes I feel I have too much token generation. Thanks for that!

Perhaps I'll include Factor at some point, in a more competitive build, but for now this feels pretty solid for around $40.

Thanks for the upvote and great suggestions!

TheSurgeon I didn't even notice the price tag of Risk Factor. Again, great deck! Have fun!

how does your deck answer Leyline of sanctity which is an ever more popular growing side board card?

November 28, 2018 9:22 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #10

307945- To answer what I feel is a cavalier question: that's what a sideboard is for. I'll simply state several points to give you perspective:
1. Not too many decks feature a MB Sanctity.
1a. The alternative go-wide wincon can get around it.
2. (And this is really the more obvious point) While the deck description never mentions strictly casual play, it also does not claim to be competitive. Honestly, it depends on your meta.. And so does the sideboard.
2a. The description does mention a $40 price tag.
3. While the meta is Modern, (FYI, I build all of my decks within the Modern meta) I don't really see anyone seriously trying to take this to a modern, competitive-level event.

I rarely include a sideboard in descriptions for budget decks, as I get way too many suggestions for the National meta, that ultimately muddle my local meta strategy.

Unless the mechanics of a deck require a specialized piloting technique or timing, I like letting a player explore and choose thier sideboard options by playing their local meta. It leaves room for the player to add their own flavor, and grow as a player through experience to develop cunning and technique.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Came for the title; stayed for the deck!

+1 for your write-up, and I'd do more +1s if I could for your categories, the +1 button itself, and for keeping it budget. Well done, mate!

I feel as though Pashalik Mons would work with the general theme of this deck.

Thanks DBCooper! I wasn't aware of its existence, and put 2 in, in place of the aggro Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, and took out a Boggart Shenanigans for another Skirk Prospector.

And, Sorry!, I would've gotten back to you sooner but I've been busy with work, and have been concentrating on tweaking my modern burn build: Lightning and Lava.

Dragon Fodder also adds 2 1/1 Goblin Tokens if you want to run even more Krenko's Commands.

TheSurgeon says... #16

cyeRunner- Thanks for the upvote! I actually used to run Fodders (3 of each), and it seemed to put too much gas in the engine and actually slowed the deck down. So, I settled on 4x of the more flavor matching Command, and concentrated on drawing the cards that get winning faster.

Dragon Fodder and Krenko's Command are the same as Goblin Instigator, who I tend to like more because he's harder to counter (i.e. doesn't get hit by Negate and things like that, but that will likely never come up) and also provides one nontoken creature into the mix, for cards that care about it. Just my humble opinion, of course. I do agree that Krenko's Command is definitely more flavourful though. Might I recommend your 61st card be a Goblin Snowman?

TheSurgeon says... #20

doodlemoo- Thanks for the suggestion. Strategically, I agree; I actually like Goblin Instigator more. But as you said, Command has the desired flavor.

I will use Goblin Snowman for the start of a sideboard, to round this out as a complete deck for beginners to learn at my local lgs. Also, this card bring's back a lot of nostalgia, as I used to have the original from Ice Age, and remember loving the artwork fondly when I was 13. Thanks!!

doodlemoo says... #21

Exactly! Thats the only reason i run it, because the artwork is incredible! There's also the really niche occasion when it provides a good blocker for a huge Tarmogoyf or Scavenging Ooze an opponent might have. But it's mostly the artwork.

I like the deck. What are your thoughts on Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin?

June 13, 2020 9:25 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #23

Phostration- That's a good question that deserves an in-depth answer. I admit, Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin sounds good at first glance; and I admittedly, ran 2x of Kingpin in this in a prototyoe version. I took him out for several reasons.

First, the speed of the deck rarely allows for more than 3-4 goblins at a time. Goblin Grenade, Collateral Damage, Skirk Prospector, and the unavoidable dogpile-style blocking, keep the number of multiply-able targets rather low.

Second, the archetype. This is more of a burn style deck, and doesn't allow room for necessary pump cards. Therefore, the value from aggro, and (most importantly) the survivability of Kingpin are minimalized. Making this 3-cost goblin without Haste, an ill fit for this particular Tribal-goblin, burn build.

Hope that clears it up for ya! Thanks for the upvote and a great question!! Play on!
